The standard for EDC

Benchmade Griptilian. I knew an American couple who lived in a politically volatile part of Africa for many years. One night, they had a friend wake them up and tell them that civil unrest was brewing and it wasn't safe for them anymore. So they left all of their belongings and fled to the embassy. Sure enough civil war broke out and they haven't been able to return since. After read more returning to the states, my family met with them, and long story short, the only possession the guy actually missed having was his Benchmade Griptilian.
In recent year, the Griptilian has faded into a bit of obscurity with the release of the Bugout. I think this is criminal. The Griptilian is an incredible knife, and one of the most cherished in my collection.
The knife comes in a nice foamed box with a silk draw-string bag. Right out of the box you will notice that is very sharp, fairly smooth, and well constructed. As per usual with Benchmade. The blade is a utilitarian drop point with an amazing finish that just shrugs off most scratches and scrapes. The AXIS lock is (as always) a joy to operate and with about 40 seconds of work, you can get it drop close buttery smooth. I don't think I am alone in finding pure joy in pulling the AXIS lock back and just flailing the blade open and close. Especially since the Griptilian boasts a lightweight plastic-like handle that makes a truly satisfying "clack" during manipulations. The pocket clip is good and meshes well with the rest of the handle. True to its name, the Griptilian has gimping all over the place, leaving the user no excuse if you drop it.
It looks sexy, it feels solid, and it sounds great. The Benchmade Griptilian is a timeless classic and none can deny its quality or the impact it has made on the knife community. The question is, is it worth the price? Yes. Yes it is. The Griptilian looks and feels like I will be gifting it to my grandson, so not even a sliver of buyers remorse from me. Would recommend to a friend. 93/100

Great knife

Another great edc knife. Knife models that have been around a long time do so for a reason. Solid knife that is pretty comfortable to use. Mine has great blade centering without any blade play. Solid lockup and a great drop shut action out of the box. I recently got this one and forgot how much I really like this knife. The all black looks great and is taking use like a champ. It read more has rekindled my love of BM knives. You won't regret getting this one.

My first $100+ knife. Great aftermarket customization options. I've fancied it up so much I don't want to use it all the time. Blade steel is great. You will not be disappointed.

Best working knife ever???

I'm not sure if it's the best ever but this knife delivers the best bang for the buck I've come across. It's big enough that you feel confident doing any everyday tasks with it and a bit more without feeling that big in the pocket. 154cm steel? Love it. It takes an edge well and holds it for a good long time. I think I like the feel of the mini grip better but I can't complain about read more the full size. Overall if you're looking for one hard working edc blade for the rest of your life or just wanting to get into the world of higher end knives then I'd have to suggest this knife.

Would buy again

I have loved this blade so much that even when I lend it and it doesn’t come back or lose one somehow, I continue to reorder this dandy blade. It’s just plum perfect in the hand and just the right size for 80% of what an EDC knife encounters.

What a knife.

I was doing plenty of research and consideration on what should be my first Benchmade knife and ultimately I chose the Grip. And if anyone is looking for an excellent folder this has to be a choice, I’d say this is a contender to the Paramilitary 2 the blade has an excellent edge retention, the handle gives a really good grip so you’re not gonna slip, and the axis lock is fantastic read more (reminiscent of the ball bearing lock from Spyderco) I’ve heard plenty of people saying that axis lock knives tend to have blade play but after a month of mine I still see none, extremely smooth when opening and closing due to the washers. The only thing I noticed is the clip doesn’t sit flush against the scale so it doesn’t clip super tight to your pants, not sure if it’s on purpose or it’s the design but it’s still very comfortable to wear. So if you’re looking for a knife you’re going to abuse and it still be there get this one

Benchmade Perfection!

I needed a good carry knife for my work in Private Security, A folding knife that is made with quality and is of legal blade length to carry. The Benchmade 551BK Griptillion fits that role perfectly. The one that I received locks up tight with no side to side or up and down blade play, when folded the blade is perfectly centered. Axis lock is tried and true and is great. If you read more are in Security or a Leo and need a good tactical folder then look no further. As always, great service from Bladehq.
