Great knife

Razor-sharp out of the box. The knife is absolutely beautiful. Tolerances are pretty good all around.

I'd been drooling over there for a long time untill I was able to finally snag one. I love the sleekness The action is buttery smooth and it by far my favorite front flipper.

Great with a small issue

This knife is a great front flipper and fun to fidget with. I like the sleek design and it is exceptionally light for the size and blade length.
My one issue is that it developed a gritty like feeling when closing that I cannot figure out how to fix. If I can get that taken care of easy 5 stars, but for now I will leave it at 4.

Best Front Flipper

Literally the best front flipper. And just as good as my original smoke. Loved the green and carbon fiber combo.

Nice Blade, Poor Steel

I like the design of this knife until I found some brown spots appear on the blade. They keep appear after I remove them by scratching with finger nails.

Does M390 rust ? Does it really M390? I don't know.

What is it about this knife?

What makes me like this knife so much? There are so many things that I shouldn't like. The blade is longer than it needs to be for my needs. The opening mechanism is odd, and doesn't make sense from a safety standpoint. It has cut me twice, and flipped out of my idiot hands at least three times, once landing tip down in my thigh, while trying to learn an index finger front flip. read more It's pretty dang expensive... and yet I sorta love it! I've only had it a week and already I wouldn't conceive of selling it. To be honest I don't even know when I will carry it because if I were to deploy it around my friends they would see the blade and be like, "whoa! What's that? You carry that in your pocket?"

But yes, I do like it very much. The fit and finish are spot on. The weight is spot on. The blade falls shut right out of the box. The detent is tight for the first ten minutes, then starts to break in so nicely. The CF is almost animated when you look at it in the light, and the blue ti is a subtle and cool color. It feels so good in the hand, it feels like it should be mine. It makes no sense, but I think I might have the most expensive letter opener I'll ever own. I'm digging this one for sure.

New favorite.

This has become my new favorite knife. The pivot screw did loosen after a day or so but a dab of purple lock tite solved that. The fit and finish is fantastic. No sharp corners or edges. The front flipper flips perfectly.
The blade on this knife came sharp and it has great slicing geometry. The blasted finish looks good. Satin finish would look better but it's no problem. read more
This knife is a great knife to carry because it is so slim in pocket. It goes well in an office or out on a job site. The carbon fiber show scale reduces weight and looks fantastic.
I highly recommend buying one if you can. I am very happy to have bought one.

Issues with lockbar insert or detent

Ken L.

Within 10 or less open and closing actions out of the box, something went wrong with the knife. It became stiff on closing and started slamming into backspacer area when it would close. Probably an issue with either detent or lockbar insert, not my job to figure it out so back to BladeHQ it went. I like the design of the knife but a $200+ knife shouldn’t have issues like this.

Amazing Knife with one small problem

This is my favorite knife in a lot of aspects. In my opinion, the design is next to none, and the action is very good. The one thing that i was annoyed with was that after a few hours, the pivot began to loosen. Luckily this knife is relatively easy to maintain so this is not a big issue. Just clean it out and use stronger thread locker. Although, at this price, this should not read more be an issue. Aside from that, this is one of my favorite knives in my possession.

Amazing knife but with a huge problem

Isaiah G.

I will start off by saying that this knife is truly a masterpiece with its action and overall fit and finish.....but there’s one huge problem with the knife.....it’s got a pretty good amount of blade play....when I received the knife I was excited to flip it open and everything but soon after it developed a great deal of blade play....and the pivot seems to keep loosening after read more I tried to tighten the pivot...which helped only temporarily for the blade play then went right back to the way it was.....for a knife that’s 220$ I am truly upset with this....i can’t stop thinking about it...not sure what I am going to do with it....I really like it and I really hate it right now. To my knowledge it seems that I am not the only one having issues with the knife....hopefully this mess can all be fixed.
Edit/update: knife seems to be completely fine, I tightened the pivot with blue locktite and let it harden, and the knife seems to be solid.... no problems at all.....excellent knife, one that will stay in my collection I hope until time makes me part with it. 10/10 with bladehq’s service as well.

Threadlocker problem and then stop pin broke

Thomas Y.

Mine came with a ton of blue threadlocker in the pivot, most of it uncured. I discovered this after the pivot loosened up on the first day of ownership. I cleaned it out and reassembled the pivot (hooray for the fixed female piece!) with some purple loctite and now I love the knife -- no blade play or loosening problems at all.

Edit: the internal stop pin broke!! No abuse, read more just flicking, suddenly it wouldn't open all the way. Disassembled and found one end of the pin had broken off the blade. Boos sent me a shipping label, repaired it, sent it back good as new... meaning I had to loctite it again.

Maybe it’s just me?

So I’ll start with I love the design of this knife. I think Boos hit it out of the park and came up with something original in an increasingly unoriginal market. The materials are fantastic and Bladehq as always could not have been better to deal with ALTHOUGH I do wish they would offer some sort of rewards system similar to Knife Center. My issue with the knife is the pivot came read more so loose it nearly fell out of the knife within the first 30 minutes I owned it. I know most people will say just put some locktite on and shut up. The problem is it had loctite from the factory and still came out. I put ALOT more on and it hasn’t come free yet but now I’m nervous to use the knife. For all of ZT’s or Benchmades issues I am never afraid to use one of their knives. And for $220 I just think this shouldn’t happen. I don’t know maybe I’m being dramatic just my thoughts. Like I said I love the design, I think Will Boos does fantastic work, and Bladehq is awesome. Just the one flaw but to me it’s kind of a big one

Been used several times now and have no pivot issues. The design and execution are a huge hit.

The front-flippin' future is now

Russ G.

Mike Gavac of Gavko Knives said in an online Q & A a few months ago that he believed traditional flippers were played out, and that we would see less of them on upcoming designs. He said he felt that way, in part, because he and other designers were simply tired of flippers, having made so many knives with that feature recently; but also because flippers burden a knife's design read more with creating a place for the flipper tab to go when the blade is open. And this means the knife must have additional means extra material somewhere on the frame, which means more weight, slightly greater cost, and potentially interrupted/unbalanced aesthetics.

This Boos Blade knife reminded me of that conversation not only because its blade deploys via front flipper, but also because the feature seems so vital to the overall design: this is a super sleek, extremely lightweight knife that still manages to offer a ton of blade relative to its size and weight, and I don't think it would do that nearly as well with a flipper tab jutting out the side, or a bunch of extra blade steel added on to provide real estate for thumb studs or a Spyder hole.

I'd never handled a front-flipping knife, and was a bit concerned that it would be practical, but I needn't have worried--the front flipper is just fine. It works as well or better than a traditional flipper, once one is accustomed to using it. I'd go so far as to say that used correctly, it actually gets the knife w/ open blade seated into the hand, ready to use as quickly (maybe quicker?) as any other method.

As with most thin-handled knives, the trick is to make sure one isn't pressing against the lock bar when opening the blade. As this was the first front-flipper I'd ever handled, it took some few dozen tries before I got proficient, but I can now confidently say that anyone who claims a Boos Blade front flipper isnt as easy, fast, and reliable a way to open a knife as some other method is doing it wrong, because it is.

This knife isnt for heavy use, and is most definitely an office/home EDC type, but in that role it is absolutely oustanding: lightweight and very slim, and therefore easy to carry; comfortable to use, and easy to be precise with when making cuts. The blade doesnt have much belly, but it is flat-ground, and its shape is long and thin enough to make a pretty good slicer; the steep drop point creates a sharp tip that is still solid enough to not worry it will break when using it to pierce (M390 blade steel helps with that).

In a word, this knife is a wonderfully balanced design that performs better than its looks would indicate, and carries easier than such performance would normally require. If you like the Kershaw Leek but find the blade to delicate, or the handle too small, definitely pick up this knife. It's the perfect "urban edc" I and many others had been wishing someone would design. Just remember: don't squeeze the lock-bar when trying to open the blade.

So close

This is a great knife, no way around it. My only complaint is that I spent a pretty penny on a knife with blade play. Now I need to buy the tools to maintenance this - not what I expected from a $220.00 knife. Other than that, I received it in a timely manner from bladehq. The best letter opener you'll ever own.

First Front Flipper

Will M.

I have to say I like everything about this knife. I was not sold on the front flipper until this knife. It's perfect. The opening is just different but in the funniest and coolest way possible. The action is crazy smooth. I'm glad I got the green. It's closer to an olive color than the lime like green in the pictures. The cabon fiber is smooth and finished well. I have though I read more lost it a few times it takes up so little pocket space. Superb knife. Not my last Boos.

Fantastic Knife!

I am absolutely enamored by this knife. By far, my favorite knife in my collection.
-The blade shape seems timeless, an attractive drop point. The cut allows you to easily middle-finger flip it open, just have to put the fat of the finger more towards the pivot. I was able to thumb-flick it on the first try, but as you practice, you can really make it fly out with a satisfying read more "tink" sound.
-Carbon fiber looks stunning, and the blue anotization looks great. The knife looks fast standing still.
-You will forget that the knife is in your pocket. The slim profile and featherweight makes it disappear in the pocket. Ergonomics are great, jimping isn't sharp, but is effective.
Great product!

Amazing knife, great action and craftsmanship

Ryan S.

The knife is flawless, sharp and attractive. The build quality is perfect. Another reviewer said he could fling his open but I can not do this with mine. The detent in mine is perfect, not too hard not too soft. Front flippers are excellent fidget knives, if you've ever owned one you know what I mean, if not, GET ONE, you won't be sorry.

Excellent knife

Harris B.

First off, I'm extremely pleased with this knife. For all measurable attributes, you get a great knife. You get great blade steel, tight tolerances, premium materials, and a sharp factory edge. The action is great, and the blade falls closed. I'm super pleased with the fit and finish, which is to be expected with a knife coming from the We Knives factory. Here are some of my personal read more thoughts:

Make sure you know that a front flipper is there for show and not function. It takes some practice to open. It's taken me a few hours to become proficient at opening, and I don't think I'll ever open this knife faster than a regular flipper or a thumb-stud knife. You can also open with a middle finger flick, but that probably won't be your primary method.

The pocket clip is not reversible, but that is not necessary for a front flipper. Pulling this knife out of the pocket and opening is equally awkward no matter which hand you use. I'm left handed and think I might have a slight edge in opening this knife compared to a righty.

The detent is adequate, but I was able to get mine to shake open without a lot of effort. It's functionally safe, and isn't going to fall open in your pocket. However, I wouldn't carry this expensive knife in an area with rules against "gravity knives" and cops that try to shake open knives. They will certainly be able to shake it open if they try, and then you'd be out a very nice knife.

This knife feels like a "steak knife" in that it is very slender but still has a generous 3.5 inch blade. It feels small in the pocket, but isn't what I would call a small knife.
