About Buck 501 Squire S35VN

The DLT Exclusive Buck 501 in S35VN is the most recent addition to our family of extremely popular Buck special projects. Once again we used a premium steel and combined it with classic handle materials all presented in a distressed leather sheath. If you can find a better USA Made lockback in S35VN we’d love to see it. The good folks at Buck knocked these out of the park all at a price that is so easy on the wallet you’ll be sure to want two.Buck is on the Mount Rushmore of lockback folders for good reason. This American icon employs over 300 people at their Post Falls, Idaho factory and we continue to see them moving to increased quality, premium materials and some more MODern offerings. These classy 501 Squires are right in the forefront of these exciting changes at Buck. We chose S35VN as our premium steel because it holds a great edge, has very good corrosion resistance and toughness and is not a bear to re-sharpen. This American super steel is made by Crucible steel using some of the most advanced powder metallurgical processes available.Choose from polished black linen micarta (with polished nickel silver bolsters) or matte green canvas micarta (with brushed nickel silver bolsters) versions. Both versions come with a black distressed leather sheath. Even though this knife easily carries in your pocket it is a nice option to be able to put on your belt. Our matching 110 Folding Hunters in these configurations have sold incredibly well and we anticipate these 501 Squires to be even more popular given their easy-to-carry size and incredibly afFordable price. These Knives are made in the USA and include Buck’s legendary Forever warranty. A bargain at $84.95 - the deal sweetens to $79.95 each when you buy two or more making it easy to grab a pair of these for an incredible price.

Love these 501s

I bought these some months back and really like them - I got one of each. I like the upgraded materials, but for me it's a great size - stick it in the pocket and go. I also have one of the matching 110s (black), also great; but if you're looking for something light and smaller size, this is fits the bill. If DLT comes out with other exclusives in this model, I'll likely pick those read more up too; and/or I may get a couple more of these for the kids.

Buck custom knife finishing needs work

Bought 2 Buck Squire 501's exclusive to DLT. These were expensive Bucks with the s35vn steel, micarta, and nickel bolsters made just for DLT. The fit and finish on these knives does not meet expectations of a custom knife. I know these are still production knives but at the prices being paid for these upscale Bucks, I expect more. The most glaring defect is the fit and polishing read more on the pins and bolsters. On both of these knives, all of the pins are clearly visible protruding up above the plane of the nickeled bolsters on both sides. It looks like someone tried to polish the pins down to flush with the bolsters but with pins being harder than the nickel they took the nickel down lower instead and now there is a wavy surface around all of the pins. They would have been better off to not try to hide the pins if this is the best they can do. I needed these for Christmas gifts or they would have been returned. Instead I just had to gift them as they were with little joy in the product I was giving.

While I have several folders with a pocket clip, there are times when I'd like a small knife on my belt rather than in my pocket. I recently purchased a regular Buck 501 to serve that role. It is perfect for EDC on your belt. The Buck site has options to customize the knife, but not in the configuration I wanted. Then I saw DLT had exactly what I was looking for, S35VN steel and read more black mircarta scales. When I ordered it they threw in a micro polish cloth. I'm glad they did because this Squire is beautiful! The bolsters and all edges of the frame are polished like a mirror. The blade is centered, and it just goes 'snick' when opening it. It's quite a bit smoother than the stock 501. Great steel, great scales, great aesthetics and great action. Very class act. Thanks DLT, and thanks Buck.
