About CIVIVI Baby Banter
Ben Petersen, who you might remember from Knife Banter on Blade HQs YouTube Channel, designed the Baby Banter as the little brother to the WE Knife Co. Banter. It features many of the same excellent and thoughtful design cues as the original, but fits in smaller pockets, is legal in more places, weighs significantly less, and is considerably less expensive. The knife utilizes a finger choil to give you more real estate to grab onto, making the knife usable, even in large hands.. The knife is put together with recessed screws, a recessed pocket clip, a large interface with the liner lock, and a gentle G-10 texture. These little touches make the knife incredibly comfortable in use, even if you just like to fidget. Perfect
Same exact tight tolerances as my first baby banter. For me this is the perfect legit everyday carry. The ball bearings are great, centering is perfect, no blade play, deep carry and a size that takes up hardly any pocket real estate. Hopefully a future edition of this knife comes in micarta and even more hopefully would love to see a 20cv and titanium version put out by We.

Perfect 5th pocket knife
This is a perfect 5th pocket knife (the Hogue microswitch is good too). It’s uncommon for a knife to be innovative these days. But I don’t think there are many knives that fit this category. For a 2” length folded (or whatever), it’s actually not so diminutive when using it. Love the .09” thick blade. Comes with mirror finish on the edge. This is a perfect knife for minimizing the probability of you getting fired if you cut yourself at work. When you pull the knife out for Hr, it’s only like 2” folded. I really like this knife.

Great little knife! Nitro-V is a bit of a disappointment for me though
The action is superb for a knife of this size and price. The f&f is great, as we've come to expect from Civivi, and the ergo is surprisingly good for a knife this small as well. I greatly prefer the action and feel of this knife over the dragonfly, which of course is its biggest competitor; however, the blade steel on this nearly ruins the knife for me.

with Nitro-V, it's a very high toughness steel with very poor edge retention. This was my first and probably last Nitro-V blade because I wasn't expecting the edge retention to be as truly awful as it is. I bring this knife to work with me and I cut a lot of boxes and cling wrap and this thing is in need of a proper sharpen after only a couple of days. With a D2 knife, I can get away with just stropping the blade every day and then giving it a proper sharpen once a week, but this knife is unacceptably dull (by my standards) after just 2 to 3 shifts. The KnifeSteelNerd (a professional metallurgist with proper equipment) rates the edge retention of Nitro-V to be very similar to AUS-8 and 8Cr13Mov and I believe it.
If you don't use your knife all that often then this steel is perfectly sufficient. But for my purposes, I would have greatly preferred if this knife came with an S30V, M390, or even VG-10 or D2 blade.
Blackout Baby Banter
I really like this little guy I can deploy with one hand and it flicks out really smooth. Perfect size and price. I can see this one can become sort of iconic like the Leek, CEO, Bugout, etc. Maybe more scale choices will be soon to come🤞🏼
Excellent small EDC.
I love this knife. It...Might be better than my s30v Dragonfly, which has been my favorite little EDC for years.
I only have two complaints:
1) I wish we had more blade finish options. I really dislike painted blades so my only real choice here was to get the stonewashed one, which I love, but the black G10 is a bit boring. The blue thumb studs help with that, though.…

2) I'm having trouble switching the pocket clip. One of the tiny T6 screws just won't pop out, and I won't force it. That might be my fault/my Torx set's fault, though...
I love smaller knives like this because they're really all you need for light urban carry/use. Anything else is mostly overkill, IMO. Also, when you're around non-knife people all day, these knives don't make anyone nervous. In fact, people comment on how cool/cute/practical/nice/awesome they are.
Defies Physics
I’ve only had this a couple days, but have destroyed some fruit and boxes - it seems like a winner.
Size:
I have very large hands but appreciate a small EDC. I’m coming from a para 3 lightweight which fits well due to the large handle and choil. This is certainly smaller but incredibly comfortable. My main concern on the Baby Banter was hitting the blade in the choil…

area since there is not a “nub” like the para 3. Not an issue. I feel confident and safe with this choil. I also love it in a finger grip where my index finger can go right to the blade point.
Action / Fidget / use:
Pretty nice given how small it is. Mostly due to perfect detent. Very smooth deployment. The blade shape is excellent. Very slicey but tip looks stout (for a two inch blade). Really an efficient cutter.
Fit/finish:
Superb. Perfect centering. No detent wiggle. Really can’t find a flaw. This little knife is very solid.

Among the Best Small Knives!
Small knives are my thing. They are usually thin, lightweight, enough for urban EDC needs, and don't scare your coworkers. Bonus points if they fit in a jeans 5th pocket. But I must be able to get all four of my long skinny fingers on the handle, usually means finger choil. The Baby Banter has all of these things. The action is very very good. The blade flies out. Quality is also… read more good with good lockup, no blade play, good centering, quality feel, and tight tolerances. It's a Civivi. My only complaint is the blade is not as sharp out of the box as others. Looking at the edge, there is a little more grind on one side. Sharpening on some fine Sharpmaker ceramics helped. Overall, the Baby Banter competes well with the other small knives in my collection like the Dragonfly, D2 Squid, and D2 Pilar. Happy to have it. Please make a wharncliffe version!
