Pretty bad quality control

Nevan M.

The button on this knife got stuck the first time I pressed it and every time after. I was extremely disappointed, especially considering this is my favorite model Civivi makes. A button lock that doesn't lock or have smooth button travel is useless. Hopefully I can get a replacement and it will be better.

Excellent knife

This is my second Civivi after the liner lock Elementum. I love both, but I prefer the blade size of this button lock version. The deep carry clip is tight but I can put it in my jeans pocket in and out easily.

I started collecting knives a few months ago so I'm adjusting to the button lock, which is very good. I got it at a great price too.

Meh

I want to like Civivi because they look so good and have an attractive price point but this is my third and frankly am just not impressed. The push button on mine is very stiff and fails to lock (both open and closed) almost all the time. I've fiddled with oiling it and adjusting tension but it is really a two hand process if you want to be assured that it has locked when opening read more or closing. The longer size is headed in the right direction as I find the smaller Elementum a little too small. But they didn't make any other dimensional corrections other than adding length to the blade and handle so the ergonomics are off a little. Imagine making a stretch limo out of a Honda Civic. That's kind of what this is like. Looks great, neat idea, not really convinced that it is as good as the competition in this price range. As they say, meh.

Good knife with some drawbacks

The civivi elementum button lock is a fantastic knife. I absolutely fell in love with the enlarged spin on the original elementum. After a week and a half of carrying it I’ve come to the conclusion it’s a decent knife. It holds an edge well, easy to sharpen, and carries well in the pocket. My only gripes are that it doesn’t have a flipper tab. It wouldn’t surprise me if read more the next addition to the elementum family would be this exact knife but with a flipper tab. Another issue is after about five days of carry and very light use jobs, the pins in the spine of knife and the pins that the blade lock against have developed a rattle. It’s very annoying. It doesn’t rattle in the pocket, but when I pick it up to use it or open it, the rattle becomes extremely obvious. If the pins didn’t rattle and it had a flipper tab I would buy it again in a heart beat. I could even live without the flipper tab, but that rattle is something I wouldn’t expect from civivi I’ve known their knives to have exceptional QC. This kind of thing is unacceptable coming from a company that usually buts out solid products. I hope this issue gets fixed.

It's hard to love, just ok

I wanted to love the knife and everything that everyone else has said is true: The blade is very sharp, opening and closing is very smooth, and it looks fantastic.
The problems come in with the button lock. I've been carrying it for about two weeks now everyday and the button lock continue to get stiffer and stiffer. I handed it to my friend who was aware of it and even said read more "Ooo is this one of the newer button lock knives?" and as soon as he tried to open it he made a face and said "That button is awful".
I don't know if it gets worse before it gets better but right now there's times where the button doesn't even pop back out without me giving the knife a hit on the side when it gets to the closed position because it's so bound. I even grab the knife in the closed position and squeeze it to see if it's not closed all the way but the button still remains stuck.
I'm going to keep putting some miles on it and see if it gets better but I sure do miss my bugout being in my pocket as it stands now and not sure how much longer I can wait to like the knife before I put it down.

A fine tool made better

A classic design, improved functionality, and upgraded steel and scales combined with a price I could not refuse. I have plenty of excellent folding knives, but when I saw these improvements I had to buy it, and I am very satisfied with the result.

I was pleased with the Brazen, marveled at the Baklash, but the button lock micarta Elementum is the icing on the cake. if I read more could have only one large EDC, it would be this one. Congratulations to WE and to BladeHQ on a job well done. Highly recommended.

Good quality, but not entirely practical

Richard L.

The button lock with no flipper tab essentially necessitates wrist-flick open. This does work, and it can be gratifying in West Side Story kinda way.

But it does place tortional stress on your wrist -- something to consider if you're over 40 -- and it takes a little practice to time the button push with the correct amount of flicking force required to fling open the knife read more securely into the locked position. Get it wrong and the blade will be dangling free.

For me it adds up to more effort than its worth while reducing the practicality of the knife. You use it as a two-handed opener, but as there's no nail nick on the blade you will have to do the two-finger grab to pull it open.

It's Civivi quality. The Sandvik blade arrived reasonably sharp.

Super Happy with this one.

I liked this better than I expected. Glad I bought it. The action and mechanism are a pleasure to operate. It feels really good in my hand.

EDC Perfection

GRAYSON P.

Of course, it goes on sale directly after I order and offering a free Civivi hat with purchase. . . But besides those shenanigans, this knife is perfect.

My EDCs have been 3" blades such as the Benchmade mini barrage and the Spyderco Para3 lw. So I thought maybe the 3.5inch blade would be too long. Turns out to be a great size and length.

The button is a bit stiffer read more than I imagined. I must be accustomed to the button on my Boker Kalashnikov automatic as my backup beater knife.

Pocket clip is outstanding.

Colors are subtle and attractive.

I paid $75 out the door for this. If I had paid $66 that would have made more sense.

I also love the original elementum knife sticker that came in the case.

Phenomenal action

This jawn slices like a dream thanks to the hollow grind, fits my XL-sized hands wonderfully, and the action is really, really excellent. The jimping on the top of the blade is also perfect for me, just aggressive enough.
I’d recommend this to anyone considering it, and the fidget factor is an added bonus.

It earned the five stars

This thing is beautiful out of the box. I have a couple other Elementums but you must have the push button lock. Very smooth, locks up like a vault. Great factory edge. G10 is perfect, a little grip but won’t tear your jeans up. Deep carry clip standard: why can’t other knife makers figure this out?!? Overall, it’s a winner. Buy one!

Best bang for buck

Great action, great lock up, great finishing, great centering, great everything really. Cannot go wrong purchasing this considering the price point. I've bought Benchmades, Spydercos, and ZTs that didn't come this sharp out of the box. Hair whittling sharp with a quick strop on the ol' blue jeans, no joke. Only thing left to see is the edge retention with the 14c28n after some use.

Great knife

Extremely smooth and fluid when opening and closing. Blade size and weight is awesome complimenting it's easy opening and closing features. I find myself messing with it for an hour without noticing. Handle feels great as well. Clip is also easy to get onto your pants and holds tight. Definitely one of my top 5 fav knives. For the price no knife is better currently.

Millions of very expensive knives have been sold over the years solely for the "fidget factor". This knife turns it up to 11! At a great price with really nice quality, too!

I'm loving this Black Marbled CF BL. I originally wanted the Red. Shredded CF but missed out on it back in April but I am more than happy with the Black Shredded. The BHQ doesn't do it justice. My new favorite Elumentum. Superceding my Elementum with Guibourtia scales.

Best civivi

Great knife, perfect centering and action

At first, I wasn't super impressed just because the button was rather stiff. However, it's breaking in nicely and the action and fit & finish are excellent. Great fidget factor, but I think I like my Bugout more for fidgeting with. I love the feel of the micarta, and the stonewashed finish is great. Very slicey edge geometry as well. Came razor sharp.

Button lock is a bit disappointing

I own a Spyderco PM3 with their compression lock. It is a joy to open and close. I had hoped for the same from the Elementum Button Lock, but it requires a significant amount of wrist action to open the blade. The pivot is fine, the blade moves completely freely, but it takes a lot of motion to get it to start to open. I think it's the geometry of the blades. The Spyderco has most read more of its mass down by the pivot, where the Civivi has it distributed along the length of the blade.

Almost perfect

Button lock works really well, very fidget friendly. The G10 scales are masterfully done as always by Civivi. The action is very consistent on bearings. I found the really big win, having larger hands, is the size of the buttonlock. It fits my hands so much better than the standard Elementum.

I only have 2 issues, the first is the concern of how strong the buttonlock mechanism read more itself is, because it appears a bit small if you are considering any sort of hard use with this knife. It could very well be very strong and the lock up feels solid.

The other, I ordered the blacked out version with coated and tumble washed blade, it looks really good, I just wish the cross bars used in place of the spacers were also blacked out instead of silver. I think that would have really completed the look for me.

This knife is really good, no matter which version you chose, you will be happy with the performance of the buttonlock, and blade steel.

Beautiful high class elementum delivers

Action is smooth and fun. The pocket clip is beautifully deep and black which is my favorite color for matching purposes. The Micarta has great feel in hand and the button they used makes the button lock execution really go the extra mile. Never owned a Civivi but the quality for this price is better than anything I own. Should've bought into the hype sooner. in conclusion...just read more buy the dang knife.

Very Pleased!

Never owned a button lock knife before, so wasn’t so sure how this purchase was gonna turn out.
Well….with a short bit of practice, this blade has now become my latest every day carry! The action is scary..in a good way. The micarta is smooth yet just enough grip that’s it’s an ease to handle, and the blade treatment compliments the dark green making for one handsome read more tool! Sharp out of the box as usual, perfectly centered as usual, and the action….like I said..scary fast!
Happy I own one thanks to BladeHQ….hope you get yours!

Love it!

Fidgety friend

The smoothest action in a button lock in years. It screams play with me.
The new larger size is much more palm friendly. This is a must own.
3.5” Sandvick blade is time tested and durable while being very easy to sharpen!

If only there were more stars!

I've had the knife for only a day and I already think it is one of my favorite knives. The action is wonderful and it has a really fun fidget factor. I can't recommend this knife enough so if you're on the fence about it, get it. You won't regret it!

Smooth, easy motion to flip open and closed. Sharp out of the box. Longer than the standard Elementum by an inch or so. G10 textured handle does not let it slip when flipping. Love the aesthetics of the Elementum. It's simple, no nonsense form appeals to me. I believe you will like it as well. .

First off, shipping was quick and the package arrived undamaged. The knife itself is excellent, the edge is razor sharp, the build quality is top notch, and the materials are excellent. I am thoroughly impressed. I have become a bit of a Civivi collector, starting with a basic Elementum. That was an excellent benchmark for their quality, and honestly, I think they continue to get read more even better.
