Fills a particular niche...

I work and recreate outside and find myself frequently using a knife to dig around in the dirt and whatnot. So I'm basically thinking of this as a folding hori hori knife. Something that's going to have a big blade in a relatively compact, light, durable, and inexpensive package. I'm going to abuse it enough that it's not going to hold an edge no matter what, so that's not a concern. read more I'll find out about durability over time, but so far this checks all my boxes.

Is it a better choice than a knife designed for more of a camp knife role? Probably not. But it's big, it's dumb, it's cheap, and it's absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes, that's exactly what you want.

Cool knife but has a few hiccups

Jason f.

Definitely a large knife, pretty satisfying to flick it and let gravity do the rest with the heavy blade. It came relatively sharp, and is surprisingly comfortable to wear IWB or in a full size pocket. There are a few hiccups though, none of which are make/break, but things that could definitely be improved IMO. 1) there should have been some sort of texture put onto the flipper, read more as my finger slips off when its slightly damp/sweaty, and of course the blade wont open. 2) the surface that the liner lock meets when opened is definitely not machined well, which makes the liner lock a bit difficult to disengage. Once it is disengaged, the weight of the blade allows gravity to close it relatively easily. 3) the secondary lock is quite loose and rattles audibly. 4) if I'm being REALLY picky, id prefer a metal pocket clip instead of polymer; however, Cold Steel is known for having rather tough polymer, and the pocket clip allows for the knife to sit relatively flush as it quite slim. All in all, i would still recommend the knife since the "cool factor" outshines these cons, it also came rather sharp, and the primary parts of the knife seem to be quality, especially at the price point.

Over the Top, Awesome, Smooth Action, Waves like an Emerson

I love this knife. It's huge. It scratches the itch for a CS Espada that I don't want to fork money over for. The action is smooth and drop shut. It fits in the pocket better than you would think, and the finger guard opposite of the flipper tab also works great for "waving" the knife out of the pocket. Definitely a wicked self defense tool on top of the pocket sword novelty. 8CR13MOV read more is pretty meh, but do you necessarily need something fancier for a dedicated self defense tool that you won't really use for utility tasks?

Perfect for Women’s Carry

This is a perfect knife to carry for a woman. Its large, has great reach, is light and lays flat against the body. The best thing is the pocket clip style, plastic but broad across. This makes for perfect inside the pants waist carry so pocket size need not be a concern.

The flipper action is quick to deploy with solid lock up. I was concerned that liner lock material looked read more like some kind of grey plastic, but I am assured it is of metal material.

It’s been my primary self- defense tool for almost a year now. As long as you don’t wear a dress, you can always have it by your side.

Great except for....

Love the styling, opens easy, light for it's size. Like all Cold Steel knives it's sharp out of the box. My one complaint is my blade has a spot on both sides where it's blemished. It looks like those spots missed being polished like the rest of the blade. I know it's only a $50 dollar knife, but I expected better from Cold Steel as my other Cold Steel knives are perfect. That's read more the only reason I rated it four stars instead of five.

Very nice

It is very nice, very sharp and very "dangerous," according to my grandma.

Bought it based on Nut'N Fancy's review and I dig it

This thing is big! Its not practical and its audacious and obnoxious and LOUD! That's why I like it. In a world of subdued practicality this knife is a world-star hip hop moistened panty generator. Most companies are making knives to help you camp and cut rope. Cold Steel made the Luzon to win level 3 fight against the boss in Mortal Combat. This is wicked cool. Don't expect to read more everyday carry this thing or to be able to justify its use to a commie DA if you ever do have to defend yourself. This is what it is. A Bruce Lee/ Churck Norris fighting stick with a razor attached. At least in feel and looks. I am no expert. it would be cool if a real knife fighting expert reviewed this thing. Side note: if you want practicality get the medium sized Luzon. I got it too and its awesome and is an EDC carry blade

THIS is a knife

totally huge and I mean that in the best way. The intimidation factor alone makes this worth the price. Not to mention the neat little safety lock on the side. Great knife.

Huge Pocket knife

I purchased the 4 inch Luzon and it is a great fliper knife. I like it so much I purchased the 6 inch definitely the biggest flipper I have ever seen. what is amazing to me is how well it flips. I highly recommend this knife if you want to impress your friends. So, I had to purchase another on for my 17 year old daughter. She loves it.

Luzon aka Pocket MONSTER

Ordered mine from here last week. When it came in, I couldn't have been more pleased. It came frighteningly sharp, and it's a breeze to deploy. I'm in love with the feel of it in the hand. Definitely a great knife for everyday carry, if pulling a Crocodile Dundee every now and then is your thing. This is indeed a 'NOIF!

I bought this for my brother for Christmas and he was impressed. It is like a sheath knife that folds, and just the right size for field work in my opinion. The locking feature while open seems to make it very sturdy and safe, while I already had faith in Cold Steel products to safely stay locked open. I did not see him do any cutting tests with it however, but the design and weight read more and perfect easy opening pivot point are magnificent!

Cold Steel never disappoints. This knife is NO exception to that rule. It will put a smile on your face no matter how bad your day has been. Built like a tank, and sharp as a razor. LOVE the lock in the handle built into the locking blade mechanism. Gives you a solid lockup that can't fail on you. A 6" blade in a folder! Great to be an American!

A Crocodile Dundee knife

This one is so much fun to flick out and impress. Flick it good and hard to lock it up tight and say: you call Call that a knife? This is a knife in your best Aussie accent. I really have a soft spot for overly large knives and this one hits that spot.

Awesome Knife!!!!!!

Good knife .. needed some tuning ..

Robin G.

In all honesty, I have a slogan above my bench that reads "If it ain't broke, fix it till it is" .. meaning I am typically compelled to tweak about everything I own .. guns and knives being at the top of the list .. So, I will say the Cold Steel Large Luzon is pretty dang cool .. good quality materials and assembly (the caged ball bearings on the blade pivot are a nice touch) .. read more great looks .. very well balanced .. big fun .. HOWEVER .. I was not happy with the feel of the liner lock .. very stiff and quite rough .. I disassembled the knife .. cleaned up and polished the mating surfaces at the heel of the blade and the liner lock, and tweaked the bend of the liner lock to reduce it's force .. now it's "like butta" .. I can now open and close it smoothly with one hand .. my final suggestion would be for Cold Steel to apply the above tuning as well as increasing the size and depth of the blade retention detent, as backing off the liner lock strength makes the blade a bit TOO easy to deploy .. but still .. it is now a joy to manipulate .. Thank you Cold Steel and BladeHQ .. now I want the smaller Luzon to round out the set .. !!

This knife is awesome for no other reason than it’s over the top size & appearance. Has a very easy opening flipper & tight lock up. So if you want a pocket sword just because you can this is a solid choice along with great price.
