About Fallkniven A1 Army Survival Knife with Leather Sheath

With this knife a new world standard is being set! Technical design, Ergonomics, and economy are brought together within the MODel A1, representing the leading concept available today. The knife meets and exceeds established international standards for strength, personal security and value. MODel A1 is a semi-large all-purpose knife for heavy duty use. The powerful blade is made of extremely hard yet tough laminated VG10 steel and will withstand the stress of hard use. The knife is superb to chop with, but also works very well with daily taSKS, thanks to the Ergonomic grip. The full tang goes entirely through the handle, so you can strike the end of it without breaking the grip. The sturdy black zytel sheath allows you to fasten the knife on your belt or your pack - even upside down. MODel A1 is a water repelling concept which works just as well in extreme cold as in stifling heat.

Fallkniven A1 Army Survival Knife with Leather sheath

First general impressions and then onto the use of the knife. The knife arrived amazingly sharp....and not just a normal - everyday sharp but the type of sharp that only professional knife makers can provide.

The feel of the knife was superb! As soon as I held it in my hand, it became obvious that this was no toy but a real knife meant for serious business. Survival read more knives should be constructed so that they can be used to chop and split firewood, clean animals, and any other camp chore that could be envisioned. This knife appeared to be up to the tasks for which it was designed.

The blade was beautiful. As a former Special Forces Survival Instructor, I know knives and steel. This blade was intended for everything I could throw at it. The blade is steel sandwiched in between two slabs of high quality of stainless.
I wasn't able to really put this knife to the test until I went to the woods and farms of Wisconsin. There I split wood, chopped kindling, started evening fires (around the family fire pit), as well as used it for more nimble tasks in the kitchen. This knife did all these tasks with ease -- and stayed amazingly sharp! When I got back from Wisconsin all I did was very lightly hone this knife back to a razors edge. Because of the knife's blade quality (a laminated VG10 steel), this task was a very quick and simple. The folks at Fallkniven did not take short-cuts in the production of this knife.

The only drawback to this knife was its sheath. In typical European fashion, the sheath was over-engineered. To make the sheath lighter and more suited to my tastes, I cut the leather belt loop off and replaced it with a piece of 2" nylon. Now the sheath is much more comfortable while sitting in the truck since the nylon makes the sheath much more flexible. Now the sheath easily works around the seatbelts.

All in all, this is now my go to - favorite carry knife -- for fishing, hunting, everyday household chores, as well as no-kidding survival use. I own several Randall knives, as well as other US knives and this knife is -- by far -- the best value for the quality I have seen.

To top it off, the guys at DLT Knives provided quick and courteous service all topped off with fast shipping.

Way to go DLT Knives!

Outstanding blade!

DLT service is great and consistent. Shipping was super fast and a great price. I didn't no if I would like the handle but this combination is awesome. I have fairly large hands and the handle works great for me. I have some knives in this price range, actually higher, with so called fancy handles, but this is my favorite so far. I thought it might be kind of plain or simple, but read more it is not. This knife was made to be used and looks like a fine knife, which it is. I am very pleased with it, the price and DLT.

Wicked sharp, useful but hefty combo

Just received from DLT, not used outdoors yet. With Fallkniven leather sheath, weighs 1 lb 2 oz - quite a load for belt or pack. That said, the blade is exquisitely sharp (despite the thick 6mm blade stock). Quality leather sheath has a couple of features that raise it above the F1's closed cavalry-style leather sheath (A1 sheath has an open top, snap retainer strap, a snap on the read more opposite side to keep the retainer out of the way when open, and the belt loop has 2 snaps so it can be removed without removing your belt). The thermorun handle is quite a bit larger around than the S1's, the blade weight is quite forward and it feels like a great chopper. This would be a good camping/around-the-yard/self-defense/survival tool but not practical (for me, anyway) for EDC, day hikes or backpacking due to weight. Lovely piece of work, though, and I'm happily keeping it.
