S1 The Forest Knife is probably the best hunting and fishing knife ever made. Its sturdy blade made of the new extremely strong stainless laminate VG10 custom steel is convex grounded for extra strong cutting power with no risk for edge breakage. The MODified clippoint design works well for penetrating purposes, the long curved edge is ideal for skinning. The blade is long enough for lighter chopping and won´t break, it´s full 5 mm (0.2") thick! The checkered handle gives a good grip even when your hands are cold or wet. Depending on your needs, you have the possibility to chose from two kinds of sheaths, an open-top dangler in thick, black leather or a zytel sheath with snappers around the handle.Like all our MODels, the S1 Forest Knife is well tested before release, you will find no teething problems. Great Knife
I've been looking for a knife in the 5 inch range and one that was stainless. This knife is great. Arrived very sharp and is very well made. The sheath is quality and very sturdy. The shipping from DLT is second to none. I will be getting more Fallknivens from them. Starting with the F1
S1 is amazing
This knife is amazing. One down side is the leather sheath wants the blade to pull to one side and cut through the sheath and my hand 3 stiches later. Still love the knife wulould buy it again. Thanks.
Falknven S1 Forest Knife
Easy initial review of a knife that I was familiar with. It is one of the most affordable, usable and toughest knifes per ounce made today. The VG10 is a decent core steel for field use and is easily maintained. I do agree about many that the handle is on the small lean side for my LG/XLG hands, I don't find it too small, particularly if used with a lanyard. Many complain about… read more its small handle, and I see these same people using way too small neck knifes that barely make a three-finger grip including a lanyard. At this knives weight and blade length, it is a perfect do all camp and field knife with a tip style that includes moderate survival/defense usage. I did compare this S1 to the S1 Pro and I found the extra mass of the S Pro to be a negative for the weight gain. I definitely agree on the COS being a better core material than VG10, but not enough to overcome the weight penalty difference. If Fallkniven would only make an S1 standard with the COS core like they do with the F1 and increase the edge material on the upper clip of the tip of the knife, they would have a more serious classic field knife. My only knife that gives this S1 competition in this use category is a Knv2 jaktknivar. The S1 knife could in fact use a technological up date because of its competition and gets 4 stars for consistency in product. My 5 Stars are for DLT for their great speed, accuracy and tracking ability of the products shipped.
No Ifs, Ands, or Buts
I almost long for something to go wrong with online merchants, as it often does, because it makes the reviews so much more spicy and fun.
