Cute Novelty with Potential, but junk

STEVEN G.

Initially, I loved the idea of keeping a backup to my backup. You know, something small and last resort-ish that can be hidden or stashed somewhere out of the way. (And I still love that idea, but maybe not with the knife.)

This knife gives you the option of a keyring or pocket clip for carrying, but my experience has been that knives are awkward to handle with a bunch of read more keys hanging from them--or vice versa. (Plus, I use Keybar with a knife already, so I'm good that way.)

The pocket clip, however, was the first issue. In order to have something sharp enough to cut, you must be able to sharpen the knife in the first place, but the pocket clip makes it impossible to access a reasonable angle, so it has to come off.

Secondly, I know it's not a flipper---nor will it ever be, but it wasn't totally centered and was already starting to rub the frame. So I tried to improve the opening action.

Upon trying to make adjustments, a few body screws immediately stripped and left me with a less-than-decent knife.

I wanted to love this little guy, but it's gotten to the point that I finally needed to contact Gerber's warranty department for help. Don't know what they're going to do for me, but at this point, I'm ready to throw the Key Note in the trash or leave it open (like a fixed blade).

I do think it would make a decent scraper.

Size-wise, I think it's a great fit in the hand as long as you keep the keyring on. The little extra length goes a long way towards creating a larger purchase, but still only two fingers (one under the finger choil and one on the keyring).

Sadly, it's not working out to be what I wanted, at the moment. Maybe after working with Gerber's Warranty department, I'll have a different experience, but for now, the Key Note is novelty junk.

Great little utility blade that is strong and compact. Perfect beater knife and box opener.
