Great Knife - Different Steel Than Listed Though

Jeffrey M.

Seems like a great knife all around. One of few sheepsfoot blades I own, and that takes a little getting used to (the tip isn't as precise for certain cutting jobs, but I understand why... that's not the intent with this blade design). Detent is good, deployment is smooth (actually I'd argue it's a bit smoother than the benchmade Triage I own). Very solid lockup. Perfect textured read more G10 in my opinion (grippy, but not so much so that it will trash your jeans / pockets). The steel listed on BHQ is N690, but my knife very clearly says N680. I checked Hogue's website and it says N680 as well, so be aware that this is a different alloy. It will have excellent corrosion resistance, but may not hold an edge as well as N690. That said, I've been happy with it. It takes a razor sharp edge, and it's very easy to tune up on a strop, ceramic rods, etc. It came hair shaving sharp, and just a little tuning got it even sharper. Mirror polish on the edge was very easy to achieve. I imagine it won't hold an edge like my S30V Triage, but I don't mind. Easy to work with, and seems to hold an edge pretty well for regular EDC purposes. One last note: the detent for the strap cutter is actually more positive than my Triage too (that's a good thing). Overall I'm happy with it, and wouldn't hesitate to buy again.
