A beginners knife

Andrew R.

For a butterfly knife, this guy is long and thick. Its size does not reflect its weight though. It feels like your flipping a slightly heavier version of the benchmade 51 with thick handles. Honestly if this were scaled down and thinned out it would be one of my favorites.

I like balis that range from 4-6 oz with a blade length as close to 4.5 inches as I can get.

The read more overall size of this makes you flip slower which may be great for beginners, but for seasoned flippers it'll turn into an issue (unless you have XL hands then you may be fine)

I also don't like how square the handles are near the pivot. It makes it difficult to roll between your fingers. That being said, this is ideal for beginners so they don't have to be too particular on where they place their fingers or the motion of their moves in general.

The overall fit and finish is absolutely amazing with minimal handle play. The tuck away latch is also one of my favorite features as I usually end up removing them.

This is a true flipper's knife. And for that reason I'll give it 5 stars. My gripes come down to my own personal preferences and in the scheme of things don't reflect what this bali offers. It's an amazing knife and if you're thinking about picking one up... STOP THINKING AND DO IT NOW!!!

My first high end balisong.....and....WOW

I have a bunch of balisongs by boker, maxace, etc. This was my first foray into the "over $350" range.
You really do get what you pay for with this knife.
The materials, as you would expect from a knife in this price range, are top notch. The fit and finish are flawless (trust me, Ive gone over it with a magnifying glass).
What did strike me however, was the weight.
This read more is a LONG balisong.....10.5 inches of long! But its very light. It makes for a very unique flipping experience.
I like to flip slowly, and because of the light weight I can do so. The knife came razor sharp however, so you would still end up with some tasty cuts if you miss a trick or accidently use the latch handle.
The latch is very unique, it slides into the handle, this causes no weigh issue whatsoever and its a really great way for people who do not like to keep the latch on their knife.
The stonewash with purple inlay looks fabulous....I think it looks better than the slightly higher priced plus version.
The balance is fantastic, I can do all my tricks with no issues at all, including chaplins. There is an absolute minimum of blade play and no tap. Quite impressive for a knife that does not use bearings.....the bushing system is smooth and pretty much flawless.
If you want to splash out on at least one (almost) $400 balisong, this should be the one to gete.
Jerry Hom has innovated a fantastic latch combined with a lightweight big balisong with top end materials and a wonderful finish, and its utterly fantastic.

Excellent Bali

Honestly the best bali I've ever held. The fit and finish is amazing. There's virtually zero play, and it flips like a dream.

Tolerances are nice and tight from machined handles. Flipping is very balanced between blade and handles makes it smooth like glass.

This was my first, but not my last, HOM design bali. It looks even better in person and is incredibly smooth to flip. Be aware, it's wicked sharp.

Premium fit and finish

I started as many people do with a cheap amazon trainer flipper and became hooked. Damn thing's handles snapped after two days.
I bit the bullet and bought a Benchmade 51 morpho. 51 was way to light so I bought Flytanium v3 Ti handles which helped to improve the weight.
Still the handles were a bit short.
Bought a BRS Replicant and that has been my flipper since. The increased read more handle length has been so nice.
I just bought this beauty and oh my gosh...
Comes in a premium black box with custom foam cut outs. It honestly feels like something a really nice watch would come out of.
The knife it's self is big, but not too big... I've got smaller than average hands but it feels nice.
The balance is incredible and feels similar to the rep. And not that I really would ever use it, but the blade has got a sick grind on it.
The real gem is in the build quality and care put into this. The thing flips like butter and there's almost no handle/blade play. I honestly don't really even want to flip this thing because I feel so bad dropping it. Not that it would matter I mean this thing is built like a tank.
Something about a knife like this just oozes a premium feel and price haha.
If you are serious about flipping and don't mind the price this is the best I've own yet.

BIG Flipper!

As with any HOM, fit and finish are superb.

This is a BIG knife. Keep in mind that the blade is a full 4.75" and 10.5" overall.

Even though it is big, it is well balanced and flips well. At first it seems a little slow, but I can only conclude that it is an illusion because it is so much longer than most other Bali's. I didn't really have to make any adjustments in read more flipping technique.

If you're like me and like to keep your latches, the retractable latch makes it pretty quite when flipping.

Overall a great addition to any collection.

Its the Big Hom
