This Natrix XL MODel has been beefed up with a 3.75" stonewashed D2 steel blade and a 5" milled copper handle.If the Kershaw Natrix looks familiar you're not experiencing deja-vu, it's based on the popular Zero Tolerance 0770. Kershaw wanted to bring this coveted design to a wider audience with an afFordable MODel designed for everyday carry and use. The drop point blade made from D2 steel is the perfect complement to the copper handle scale that has been 3D machined and chamfered to fit perfectly in the hand. The sub-frame lock design provides secure blade lock up while reducing weight for ease of carry. LOVE ONE, LOVE ALL!
I now own all three sizes of the Copper Natrixes. I have had the smaiiest for around a year, having bought it from one of those "drop" companies that pop up frequently on FB. I paId twice what it currently sells for on BHQ, and it took over a month to receive, and there was much controversy online about the knife delivered! When I became aware this model was now available in two larger sizes, I bought them both to complete the series for my collection. Great decision!; identical to the smallest one, except for size. Love one, love all!
Solid and Attractive Knife but Not Without Issue
I held off purchasing Kershaw’s copper Mini Natrix, as I hoped they would release a full size version (at least a 3.25in version) as with the original Natrix models, and alas they have.
Foremost, I like carrying knives in the 3.5 – 4in range, so 3.75in is a sweet spot for me. Weight is less important to me than profile and this knife is slim enough with a super-deep carry…

clip that it does ride in the pocket really nicely despite its considerable weight. The copper scales do have internally milled pockets to reduce the weight so I can’t imagine how heavy this knife would be otherwise.
The blade is one of my favorites of all my knives. It’s like an aggressive sheepsfoot that looks cool while being super functional with a thin stock and sharp and slicey factory edge. I’ve only cut down a considerable amount of cardboard and done some kitchen prep with this knife but it has performed well so far.
Detent is fairly strong which allows the blade to deploy reliably and fast with a satisfying clank. In hand, the knife has excellent ergonomics. Kershaw did a great job at knocking down all the edges on the scales so it’s comfortable in all grips. In use, the knife is solid. No play in any direction whatsoever, lockup is rock solid at about 50% on my version, and overall I feel really confident that it will handle a fair amount of abuse.
All that good said, one small gripe is the blade centering is pretty far off favoring the show side quite a bit, even after disassembly and reassembly. Not a big deal as the function and action are completely unaffected. One big gripe: the stiffness of the lock bar. My thumb has developed quite the dent and callus on the tip over the one week I’ve used this knife. It is easily the hardest knife to unlock that I own and it hasn’t become easier with use and fidgeting. I’ll be curious to read other reviews as I’d like to see if it’s just my example or a wider spread problem. Had I known that the stiffness wouldn’t have softened up within a week, I would have exchanged this example immediately as it does take away some of the joy of owning a one-handed knife. Unfortunately, I can’t do that now as I’ve used it considerably. If I could give 3.5 stars instead of 4, I would. It’s that bad.
Overall, I really do like this knife a lot and if it wasn’t for the lock bar issue, this would have been a 5-star review easily.
Very nice knife
This is my second Natrix copper knife. The first was the small one and I liked it so much I bought the large one. What can I say but WOW! Well made, smooth as glass opening and closing and made from great materials like D2 steel, KVT bearings and copper. I will most likely buy the middle size one to round off this set.
