Definitely My New EDC!

Stanton N.

I prefer a small knife I can dress up or down. I love a good "modern traditional" and the Santos Mahogany wood, leather sheath, phosphor bronze washers, and M390 steel all come together very beautifully in the MKM Fara!

The back spring is stiff, providing a lot of confidence for a non-locking knife! The walk and talk started out feeling "spongey," but with minimal break-in read more it soon got far snappier! The half stop in conjunction with the pivot position is perfect. In the event that the blade DOES fold to the half stop, it should barely graze you (and will probably save you from needing stitches).

The blade comes shaving sharp out of the box, but the edge grind is slightly uneven on mine (with the Burnley stamp side having a 2x taller grind near the tip than the MKM side). It's not bad enough for me to send it back, but it's a shame to see nonetheless. When closed, the blade centering is perfect! There's also no noticeable blade play in any direction when open. I wish the opening fuller was deeper or, even better, on both sides of the blade. The current fuller is too shallow and if my hands were wet or oily, I would have a tough time getting this blade open. It's also too wide and smooth to be used as a nail nick. I also think the blade could have been thinner, but the .12" isn't unreasonably thick (and the handle thickness is nearly perfect).

Every edge (including the spine and liners) are crowned or smoothed and no obvious "hot spots" are present for me. However, on the "bottom" of the blade where the spine meets the spring, the tang had a significant bur. I took a very fine grit to it to stop it from catching on cloth or cutting into leather, but it would take a heavier grit to make it truly smooth (and might affect blade play if completely removed). With my Small hands I get a full four-finger grip, but Large or Extra-Large hands will probably only manage 3 fingers.

Besides the uneven edge grind, there are no obvious blemishes anywhere and the Santos wood looks gorgeous! Straight out of the box, one of the scale screws was extremely loose and rattling. However, it was easy enough to tighten back up (and if it loosens again, Loctite is affordable and abundant)!

What are my thoughts overall? This is an absolutely stellar knife! It's fantastically made with premium materials in an elegant design!

I am 100% positive this will tackle any of my day-to-day tasks and I'm glad I grabbed this knife! Definitely my New EDC!

Nice Slip Joint

Just received this from BladeHQ (very speedy delivery) and love the knife. Its got a decent lockup for a slip joint, and is very good-looking. I'd recommend this as a gentleman's knife for anyone interested in a good non-threatening looking EDC. 4 stars because the sheath it comes with is low quality (sheath is there because it has no pocket clip).

Beautiful Knife

This knife was just as expected. Very well made, light weight, balanced, and very sharp. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that I was not impressed with the sheath. Very flimsy and cheap looking to house such a beautiful knife.

Very nice knife. In fact so much so that my wife liked it and took ownership of it. Extremely sharp out of the box. The stiffness of the joint is what I would expect from a knife like this. I would easily recommend this knife to anyone who wants a quality knife that feels more gentlemanly than just another EDC lock blade.

M390 Gentlemen's at this price!

I really like this knife. It is a wonderful anachronism – a Slip Joint with a Bohler M390 blade, very attractive real wood scales, and the handle shape is a nice update for an SJ. I couldn’t find a similar combination in a knife with a new high end steel blade (M390, Elmax, CPM M4, 20CV, S90V, S110V, etc…) for less than twice this price. The action is nice and tight as I prefer read more in SJ’s with a firm pause at 90° and a very confident stop when fully opened. Bought two of each wood color and prefer the Santos, but bottom line they are crazy finds at this price point. If you are looking for a high-tech gentlemen’s with a bit of old school take a hard look at these.

Update - have ordered a dozen so far. Need I say more?

Stunningly Beautiful

Absolutely prefect. I cant find even one blemish. Super sharp out of the box. The craftsmanship is TOP SHELF. Don't let the blue pivot circle scare you. It's darker, shiny and adds to the beauty. NOT plastic. I highly recommend this MKM Burnley Fara Slip Joint Folding Knife Santos Wood (3" Satin). Buy 2. One for yourself and one for your buddy. NOT a paid endorsement. I bought one read more and LOVE IT !!! You will too.
