Solid knife at reasonable price!! Buy with confidence

Over the past year, I have been eyeing several Protech models. After handling a Protech SNG at my local shop I knew I had to have one. What was stopping me was always the price. I knew I wanted at least a 3inch blade but could not justify the cost of $200-$250 for the Newport, SNG, Godfather, etc... My choices were between this TR3 or a half-serrated TR4. Out of the box the blade read more fired out and I got to experience the incredibly Protech action. This blade does not disappoint. It fires hard and true every time. The blade itself came fairly sharp and after a couple of passes on the strop could gravity cut paper. The grind and fit/finish on the blade are stellar. For me, the blade itself is not too thick or too thin and looks to be able to stand up to harder use applications that the Newport or Godfather could not handle. The lock-up is solid with no blade play and feels like a solid work tool. The aluminum handle provides that solid "tink" when fired and the pivot milling, color, and finish are a 10. The pocket clip itself was stiff but I am sure it will break-in. The show side of the knife contains a grey grippy insert. The feel of it reminds me of the running tracks made out of recycled rubber soles. If you have ever handled a Kershaw Blur it is similar to their "grip tech". This is where I will speak of some negatives with the knife. The milling or cutting of the grey grip insert is not that great especially compared to the rest of the knife. There are noticeable gaps where the rubber lays into the milled insert and the rubber itself contained noticeable imperfections. For a $150-$180 knife this is acceptable though. The pocket clip itself does kind of feel cheap. It has the same finish as the blade itself but feels like a raw aluminum that might be on a $50 Kershaw. It is also not deep carry but hopefully, I can find a different one on the aftermarket. The blade finish itself is very reactive to acidic foods. After using it to cut an orange and a lemon both left discoloration on the knife and food. Granted this knife and the finish is not made for food prep but it's just something to keep in mind. I would have also liked to see some gimping along the spine of the knife as it is slick and polished. Overall this knife is an 8 out of 10 for me. There are some negatives but they are not knocks on the product itself more personal preference and I knew what I was in for with the purchase. If you want a Protech with a 3in blade and want to stay under the $200 mark this is the model for you. While I can not speak to the longevity of the blade yet out of the box I am incredibly impressed with the Protech brand and will buy more models in the future. Price, shipping, communication, and customer service were all great from DL Trading. This is my first purchase from them as I am usually a Blade HQ guy but DL seems to have better pricing and stock as of late. Thank you Protech and DL Trading for putting this quality tool in my hands!!!!!
