Fantastic knife, and easy to modify!
I picked this knife up after using a spyderco for the last four years. Nothing wrong with it, i just wanted something new. Out of the box its amazing. The blade was a little tough to open tho. The only thing that wasn't ideal, and this is true for every knife, was the safety on the back of the knife. It's kind of like having a safety switch on a 9mm pistol. The concept works, but…

in the real world, not so much. Removing the safety was super easy. I'm a bladesmith by trade, and I've made friction folders and linerlocks before so idk how hard it'd be for the average Joe. I also adjusted the spring assist to have more power, which made opening it easier and quicker. Like a car, I only recommend modding it if you know what you're doing xD
All in all, a solid knife and a fun project.
Great knife
First SOG I've ever bought and I absolutely love it! I was a little skeptical about the blade design. I've only ever had a drop point, clip point or tanto. In the specifications it describes the blade as drop point but I would consider it more a standard point. Either way it's a great knife and I'm glad i added it to my collection. It'll be used quite a bit!
Slick grip - sticks for lefties
Overall a good quality knife that I come to expect from SOG. The handle is a bit slick to hold. Sharp blade and smooth quick action when opening. Opens easily when using the right hand. Using the left hand is harder to open the blade at times.
Solid Knife
This is the first SOG design that I felt inclined to purchase. Nice coating on good D2 steel, and has held an edge as well as could be expected. Was small amount of side to side play out of the box but that was resolved by tightening the pivot slightly so no complaints at this price. I'm not used to assisted knives but this has been a pleasure to use for all edc purposes. If I were… read more to loose it tomorrow I would order another one.
Good...for the price
I collect knives; benchmade, microtech, protech, boker, etc. This is a good knife for the price. The reviews said it opened well but mine was VERY hard to open. A lot of force. Even after grabbing the blade and manipulating it a lot to break it in. It has a good weight, not too light or heavy. Even though the scales are plastic they feel good and I like the grip. clip is nice too.
I took the knife apart and shaved off just a hair from the notch on the blade pivot area that traps the AT-XR lock pin. Now it opens easily and fast. The bade also had a lot of side to side play and needed to be tightened. The back safety internal plate has rough edges and it catches just before it fully engages. It disengages fine.
I guess my point is that it badly needed a tune up. Which I did but you may not want, or be able, to do. Now the knife functions pretty well (except the safety) and I do really like it (now). You may get a good one but mine needed some work. I saw a review that said the blade was tight and it opened easily. Mine did not. Again, it's good ...for the money.
Not the best
When I recently purchased this knife the lock was sticky the lock nothing like the lock on the Terminus or the Seal XR which I both own. The lock slides back and forth XR other wise good knife
Jolly good show
I will admit when I first got this knife I wasn’t sure if I should keep it. I really liked the appearance although a little bigger than I anticipated. The thum studs bit into my skin pretty badly but after playing with it for a couple days it now feels quite smooth and the assisted action ver enjoyable.
Good EDC
Nice pocket clip and good assisted open.
Great steel!
Nice knife. I like the design and feel. Still getting it broke in but the Cryo D2 steel is friggin amazing! Edge hold up very well so far.
As Advertised
I'm very happy with my Flash AT-XR. The knife has a great weight and the grip is well designed.. I like the safety switch and how it doesn't interfere with the use of the knife.
The blade is very sharp and performs as advertised. The only thing I'd like to see added is a glass break to the base of the handle.
A home run....
A great blade with much improvement over the last model. Better ergonomics and action as well as colors. No complaints so far. This makes a great EDC.
