SOG TAC XR - More Impressed Than I Expected
I am more impressed with this knife than I would have expected. Here are my thoughts on the knife.
Blade:

hair off my arm effortlessly. The majority of the blade that is a plain edge is plenty to get most everyday tasks done. The point is fine, but not fine like a Kershaw Leek. This one doesn't feel like it's going to snap off.
Handle:
The knife feels solid in the hand and it's very comfortable. The Terminus XR handle wasn't big enough for my hands (size large), but the handle on this is perfect. This knife has black steel liners so it has a little heft, but it feels solid and capable. The jimping is just right and locks you in but it's not too aggressive. The G10 is fine and does not tear up your pocket. This is my first SOG knife with a clip that makes it easy to get in and out of my pocket. I know SOG used to do the super deep carry clips, but those made it hard to get out of your pocket because the material of your pants would get stuck in the loopover of the clip. For this SOG TAC XR, I put about an inch of black 550 paracord through the large lanyard hole and it's easy to grab to pull out of the pocked. It sticks out of your pocket a little bit, but not enough to bother you when moving around or sitting.
Deployment:
Easy to open with thumbstuds or flipper tab. Don't pull the lock and slam it open. Why put that much stress on the lockbar if you don't need to? Because it's manual and not assisted, it's also able to be slowly opened using the thumbstuds if needed to not draw a ton of attention.
Lock:
The XR lock is awesome and so close to an Axis lock from Benchmade (I think this SOG is smoother). To me, the fidget factor and confidence the lockup has are the same as compared to an Axis lock. Out of the box, this SOG TAC XR had a solid lockup without any blade play in any direction (unlike old SOG's). You can pull the XR lock tabs and the blade drops shut on mine to about 95%, then releasing the lock pulls the blade in the rest of the way. The detent is also excellent, but not too strong to overcome.
Overall, I thought this was going to be a pretty solid, nice, quality knife. I didn't think I would just carry this from now on because I don't see any reason to switch. It's not too big in the pocket and it can do pretty much anything you need it to within reason. My daily carry is now this knife and a Victorinox Climber for all of the multi-tool needed things. Between those two, I feel I'm covered for anything my daily life can throw at me.
TLDR: Buy this knife. It's high quality and you'll love it. This SOG has a premium feel as opposed to the folding knives they've been making for a while up to the release of their new XR lock.
