Great PM2 alternative

Jeff L.

I waited a long time for this to be back in stock. After I got the Spidiechef I knew LC200N was going to be my preferred steel. I got tired of my older knives getting rust on them. This steel should last for generations to come. I was seriously considering the PM2 but when compared side by side, I took the Caribbean home instead. The blade thickness is the same, the action is the read more same, and the feel is very similar but at the end of the day, I wanted a bigger knife than the chef and I really wanted LC200N. I also like the grippy texture of the Caribbean handle over the PM2. All of the touchable edges of the blade have been milled as have all the edges of the scales. The blade was perfectly centered and the action has become stellar over the course of a few days of fidgeting in front of the TV.

If the PM2 had LC200N steel I probably would have gotten it by being impatient but I was able to hold off until these came back in stock (about 7 months!). Thanks BladeHQ for the fast shipping and responding to my note on the order!

Perfect outdoor sports knife.

Jake O.

I consider this the perfect knife for cyclists, joggers, hikers, and others who enjoy outdoor and OCR training. Here are the criteria I considered while searching for a knife to carry during outdoor training:

o Corrosion resistance: I think a knife like this, from Spyderco's Salt series, would be ideal for a knife I carry when training outside because I don't have to worry read more about it getting wet, sweaty, or muddy. (I still do my best to keep it clean though.)

o Self-defense: I mostly carry this on runs, walks, and bike rides when I don't carry anything else with me but a house key and maybe a phone. I wanted a full-size, full-serrated knife ideal for slashing. Hope I never need to defend myself--especially with just a knife, but I think an evening jog would be the most likely scenario.

o One-handed opening: I prefer Spyderco's thumbhole for opening knives one-handed because it's really easy to use--even if I'm tired after a lot of training when my fine-motor skills are not as good. I did NOT want a knife with the 'Emerson wave' feature, like Spyderco's Matriarch, because I didn't want to worry about fumbling with something like that during an emergency.

o Light weight

I have a couple other pocket knives that I like to carry for all-around EDC, but I carry this almost exclusively while during strength and conditioning training. Glad I found it.

Too much loctite, common guys!

Mitchell W.

This is an awesome knife, the Taichung factory just put waaay too much loctite on the screws making the blade very difficult to service. And if you're using this in a dirty environment, you're going to want to clean it out on a frequent basis. The fit and finish are superb and the texturing on the scales makes it easy to hold on to. I really love that they went with a compression read more lock on this knife making it super easy to open and close one-handed.

Gave as a gift to a fishing buddy. He has really big hands and loves the handle on this. He was afraid to take it surfcasting, so I told him not to worry it has LC200N steel, he just looked at me and I knew he didn't have a clue what I was sayin. I told him wash it, keep it oiled after the beach... that 6mos. ago, no problems yet. He said its easy to keep sharp and that's saying read more a lot for him, I usually end up sharpening his knives! He hasn't broken it yet, which tells me its a well built knife, if he can't break it nobody can!

Great all around knife

Can be used in the kitchen or outdoors. I use mine around the yard and on the boat. Don’t let the looks fool you. You’ll learn to appreciate it.

All weather pm2

Overall, this is a really great knife. It opens smoothly, and its comfortable in hand. Its basically bombproof in terms of resisting the elements. I put a 17 degree mirror edge on mine, and its SCARY sharp. Lc200n is really easy to sharpen, and it takes a superb edge. My only complaint is the edge near the tip hits the lanyard tube (I think), because there is not a flat spot in read more that location. Ive had mine for 6 months, and its still going strong!

Nice knife. Great job on the customization.

I like this knife. I'm hoping the color will make it harder to lose, and it definitely stands out from the black G10 and aluminum handles most of my knives have. The customization was really well done--my email address and phone number on the back of the blade--my compliments to whoever did the engraving.

Bad detent (it's not just mine) and bad lanyard placement

Brad L.

I got this knife a while ago, and in 15 minutes the blade was chipped w/o cutting anything. How you ask? The lanyard tube hit the blade. I also noticed the detent was fairly soft, so I called bhq, and the replaced it like champs. They shipped out a new one, and the detent was still bad (I thought maybe it need to break in), and the blade hit the tube again. I sent it to my sharpening read more guy to take out the massive chip in the blade, and the dumb tube. It came back sans lanyard tube, with a still very soft detent. I called spyderco a couple of times, and they gave me lip for taking it apart. Something tells me they would not have fixed it, just called good, claiming it to be within spec, and shipped back without doing anything. I am not too happy with them.

Wonderful Hypnotizing Knife

I was getting mugged, you see...so I pulled out my Caribbean, showed my attacker the handle...and started to move it in small circles. He became disoriented and staggered off.

Really this is a great knife. The fit and finish are excellent the ergonomics are good, the traction package is good but the handle is oversized and wide. I love the action of the knife and the steel read more will hold a better edge and s30v, but it is rust proof. The handle color is horrible but after I dyed it dark green it was considerable better. I would try this one out in person to see if it is too wide for front pocket carry.

Amazing blade for wet and/or salty environs

This has become my favorite Spyderco.

Fit and finish are superb, and it's surprisingly light for a knife of this size.

I live near the ocean, and this is my go-to beach knife. It does it and all, and the knife steel is amazing. Just rinse it off and you're good to go. Virtually rust-proof blade.

Probably will buy another one.

Great Blade!

I spend a lot of time out in salt water conditions. I've carried this blade with me for the past 6 months and I really love it.

The compression lock makes disengaging the blade from open so easy. The G10 is nice and grippy, it doesn't feel like the knife is going to slip from my hand at all.

The LC200N is a great steel. I've had no issues with rust and it keeps a great read more edge. I've cut through heavy duty zip ties, marine mooring lines and then a bagel or two without an issues.

Perfect for rusty situations

Johnny D.

I bought this knife because my job caused my knives to develop surface rust generally within the day. I have not been disappointed. The blade holds an edge extremely well. The handle is comfortable, and the pattern gives you a great grip. The yellow isn't too overpowering either. It doesn't have the point of other blade styles, but it does have enough of one for work. I would recommend read more this knife to anyone.

Great knife all around feels great both in hand and in the pocket. After a few weeks of carry it is still sharp as ever and has a super smooth action

Spyderco Caribbean sheepfoot plain edge

This knife took a very long time to be released but it was well worth the wait. I absolutely love the Caribbean and the LC200N blafesteel and the rust proof liners and hardware are definitely going to be useful for rust prone situations. I have attached a lanyard with a bead on it and it is my favorite pack knife. I have been reluctant to carry it as an EDC just because it is pretty read more large. However, the times when I did EDC it wasn't bad at all. I highly recommend this knife. Perfect grip with the textured G-10 scales and a good bit of jimping on the spine to get a great and solid purchase on the knife. I also highly recommend BladeHQ as a place to purchase your knives.
