The original Pacific Salt was my first spyderco and it was issued to me by the military. For years I thought it was dumb because of the plastic handle, it felt like a toy, and the edge retention was steaming hot garbage. I ended up loving it as a running knife because it’s light weight, big, and it doesn’t care about sweat getting all over it. Now... this new model is improved read more in every way except for one... By comparison to the pacific salt 1: It’s lighter than listed which surprised me, it’s actually 2.5oz according to my scale (honestly feels as light as a benchmade bugout in hand) Ridiculously light for its size thanks to the full flat grind and the strategically hollowed out scales. but still plenty strong and stiff. It is more comfortable yet also grippier in the hand. Best of all, you get a whole heck of a lot of sweet tender LC200N in the classic spyderco blade shape with the benefit of a steep angled tip. Spyderco has even paid attention to the pivot area, rather than a flat washer type surface it’s a plus sign shape which means that any sand or grit that gets in there can easily be washed out, brilliant for a salt knife. The one drawback that I see is the tip is only buried 1/8” into the handle compared to around 1/4” with the pacific salt 1. It seems Sypyderco wants to limit how long you can sharpen your knife before you have to buy another one. Better be careful While you’re using it, you only have 1/8” of steel to play with. Continuous improvement in their favor.
