About Spyderco Smock

Kevin Smock is an award-winning industrial designer who is turning heads with his visionary handcrafted custom Knives. Based on his SK23 custom folder, the Spyderco Smock translates his innovative style into a premium quality production folder. The hollow-ground blade of this knife is machined from CPM S30V stainless steel and includes both a Trademark Round Hole and an elegantly understated fLipper opener. It is paired with a skeletonized handle featuring full stainless steel liners, textured carbon fiber/G10 laminate scales, lightweight, open-backed construction, and a right-side, tip-up pocket clip. The Smock’s most unique feature, however, is the button release on its high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, which allows the knife to be safely and easily closed without placing your fingers near the blade’s edge.

This is my second purchase from DLT. Both have been great. Had it in my hands 2 days after placing the order.

A must have Spyderco with unique features

This is a collector’s must have. The push button locking feature gives it a special characteristic that makes it unique and the action is superb. The unusual dual detent creates a snappy consistent deployment and the knife is practically “fall-shut”. It’s a natural for custom scales if you want to eliminate the “speed holes” which may be controversial for some. The Smock read more is a perfectly sized instrument with beautiful action and great ergonomics—all in all an ideal and useful EDC knife.

My New Favorite Knife.

Love the shape of the blade and the locking mechanism. Can also be a flipper or the traditional Spyderco thumb hole opening. Just a really cool fidget knife. Open and close open and close and so on. Get one, you'll love it.

Easiest one-handed opening and closing knife I own. Cuts stuff too.

All most perfect

This knife has a great design, fantastic even! However, it might not be for someone else.
But I liked it,, kinda. Out of the box, something wasn't quite right to me,, it needed changes. So I searched out different scales, micarta for my tastes, and found a set I really l liked, and bought them.
I ordered some skiff bearings, removed the larger detent ball bearing,, read more and what a performance difference that made,, a much smoother action, not as tight of detent.
I am ordering a deep carry titanium pocket clip as well, then we should be good to go.
I will add a pic a little later, once the pocket clip has been installed.

One of my favorites

After looking at 6 or 7 knives Jason at DLT Trading Jason talked me into the Spyderco Smock. He said that everyone there loves theirs and after it breaks in I would love it too. He wasn’t wrong. The Spyderco Smock is one of the favorite knives I own. The action is amazing and I can’t help but give it a flick or two every time it is in my hand. The hollow grind makes it an amazing read more slicer. The flipper tab is unlike any other and doesn’t destroy anything else that is in your pocket. The Spyderco Smock has an amazing detent due to the fact that it has a second dent ball. Lastly the button closure for the compression lock is on point and I hope It finds its way into more of Spyderco’s knives.

Where does it fit?

Sorry to give just 3 stars. My rating is simply based on how it fits into my rotation. It is a good looking design. Solid and well made. My only functional knock is the flipper placement close to the pivot doesnt give it much leverage and makes it a slow flipper. Not very snappy.
For me though, it just doesnt find it's way into my pocket all that much. I guess because I have read more enough knives that I always have something else that is better at a particular task, including as an all around. Pretty good tip cutter, but again, I go a hawkbill if I need that (for box cutting). I got this mostly to have something a little different, so definately a niche knife for me.

Fidget King

Firstly, DLT service is the best. Got a text notification that the Smock was back in stock, which allowed me to snag one before they were sold out again, and it was delivered extremely fast.

The Smock is a fidget knife 100%. Right from the box it was super smooth, and quality was typical Taichung. Now if Spyderco could be convinced to stop prioritizing the lanyard hole read more over clip position, this would be a perfect EDC knife.

Collaboration homerun!

This is an excellent interpretation of the SK23 custom Smock for a lot less money. Fit, finish is typical Spyderco quality. This is arguably a perfect EDC knife. Buy one you won’t be disappointed. As ALWAYS, BHQ customer service is beyond reproach.

Great knife, better service!

I like the knife alot. Such a fidgeters dream. Can slow roll out, thumb flip, middle finger Spydie flick, hole drop, and so on. Addicting. Cut like a laser, and great in hand. Wish choil was a smidgen bigger but if super cautious is usable for my thin fingers. Don’t recommend for most. Perfect execution otherwise.. Not a single flaw as far as manufacturing goes.

So, why not a 5 star? The choil could be improved so you can more safely use, and I could do with less holes in the handle. Don’t mind the big aesthetic ones, but then the lanyard hole, clip holes, and the others are just too much. Distract from looks. But that is personal taste, and why my score is 4. If you don’t mind holes everywhere on it don’t care about the choil, then sure it could be a 5.

And DLT’s service was even better. Shipped before I even ordered! Kidding, but damn they ship fast.
