About Spyderco SpydieChef

A proud member of Spyderco’s Salt Series of ultra-corrosion-resistant Knives, the SpydieChef takes the user friendly Ergonomics of a good chef’s knife and translates them into a do-all folder optimized for everyday carry. Based on knifemaker Marcin Slysz’ custom design, it features a gracefully curved, full-flat-ground blade crafted from LC200 N—an extremely corrosion-resistant nitrogen-based steel used by NASA for ball bearings. Its easily cleaned, open-backed handle consists of two solid titanium scales, one of which houses a stout Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism. A lined lanyard hole and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip support convenient carry and quick tip-up access with this Spyderco folding knife.

My second Spydiechef

I love this knife so much when my wife wanted to get me something I asked her to buy me another Spydiechef. She bought me my first and it hasn’t left my pocket since I received it. The first will be retired and used as a spare. Once they are broke in the action is very smooth and the lock stick disappears for the most part. For a thinly ground blade LC200N holds up very well. read more Don’t be afraid to use it for what a knife is meant for. Edge retention, sharpness, ease of sharpening plus no worry of rust makes this alloy my favorite for pocket knives period.

Smooth break in

This knife is now an everyday carry absolutely well made Spyderco. Thin disappears in the pocket light weight and very well done. Aknife that at first out of did feel to me as if i was going to enjoy BUT like i said smooth break in feel like when it is opened lock stick way with in a few day's of opening and closing very impressed. The blade is thin enough to slice rope our cardboard read more and great in the kitchen. DLT trading as always fast shipping and a little surprise in every box thank you DLT!!!!

Best Spydie folder yet; my 7th

There is nothing I dislike about the SpydieChef. I’m righty, and it takes a little getting used to when doing the Spydie flick due to limited access to the hole on the right side, but once you get some muscle memory, you can do it consistently. The long, substantial blade really helps in this regard. This is the CQI updated version. The flat scales make it very pocket friendly read more for a good-sized knife. Knowing that there is virtually NOTHING that will corrode in the frame or blade or any of the small parts is quite reassuring. Closing is CRK-like (hydraulic?) but not free dropping. No blade stick. Easy to take apart, clean and reassemble with perfect blade centering. Got the Spyderco WaterWay fixed blade with the same LC200N blade material for similar corrosion-free peace of mind. As always, fast shipping from my friends at DLT.

My Absolute Favorite Pocket Knife!

I have had some flavor of Spyderco in my pocket since I was 18 years old. I have always loved titanium frame locks so when the Spyderco titanium military was released I snatched one up. It has been my favorite pocket knife until now. I missed out on the first runs of the Spydiechef so I had to wait and finally when this batch of them came up for sale I had to have one. My lovely read more Wife knew how much I wanted one so she bought one from DLT I fell in love with it at first sight. It has replaced my ti military permanently for everyday carry. I went through mine and did some polishing, flared the ends of the lanyard tubes slightly to stop the rattle. Mine does have some lock stick after polishing but I prefer that personally. It adds a extra level of security since it keeps the lock bar in place until you want to unlock it. I have other framelocks in the same price range that will unlock if the spine of the blade takes any shock. One upgrade for this latest batch I am happy about is the detent bearing is ceramic now so this knife truly is a rust free folder. One last thing is on the steel alloy used in the blade. LC200N AKA Z-FiNit really performs with a polished edge. For the amount of rust resistance you get the toughness and edge retention is insane. I find it has quite a bit more edge retention over CPM-S30V. It blows H1 out of the water so maybe one day Spyderco will make more models then they already do in LC200N.

Great materials and build quality, but...

This is an amazing knife and will completely satisfy 90% of users. The other 10% will be slightly disappointed because the ergonomic do not completely support a left handed user. Its almost as if Spyderco wanted to go out of their way to make sure lefties are slighted. The design includes a reversible pocket clip, yet the spydie hole is obstructed, preventing a lefty from cleanly read more deploying the knife with their thumb. Thankfully this makes doing a spydie flick easier for a lefty. In a sense this partially obstructed hole on the lock side is a detriment to both lefties and right handed users. Hopefully Spyderco will take this into consideration with future designs.

Too many knives. Too many choices. Too many attempts to separate by stylistic nuance. The Spydie Chef comes along and flies in the face of all that. Its thin in the pocket. Its light. Slicing veggies and meat for dinner off a cutting board informs what a knife - this knife is for. It can ride all day in a pocket, slice the occasional cardboard box, get swished off, turn around and read more serve admirably preparing food. And, looks cool to! A winner.
