About Spyderco Tasman Salt 2

Spyderco’s second-generation Tasman Salt 2 is a powerful fusion of a hawkBill Blade profile, 100% rustproof H-1 blade steel, and an enhanced, injection-molded handle design. The result is an incredibly capable pocket-sized cutting tool that is ideal for anyone who works in or around the water. Available with either a PlainEdge or fully serrated SpyderEdge cutting edge, the radically curved hawkBill Blade of the Tasman 2 literally “collects” the material it cuts, drawing it into the concave edge like an animal’s claw. This dynamic generates extreme cutting power, especially on fibrous, hard-to-cut materials like netting, line, webbing, and rope. The Tasman Salt 2’s high-performance blade is housed in an improved handle design based on Spyderco’s best-selling Delica 4. Injection molded from tough, ultra-lightweight yellow or black fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN), it features improved Ergonomics, a non-slip Bi-Directional Texturing pattern, and a series of threaded stainless steel anchors for a versatile four-position titanium pocket clip. The handle is also Home to a stout back lock mechanism that locks the blade securely open during use. A true pocket powerhouse, the Tasman Salt 2 sets a new standard in mariner’s cutting tools.

Fantastic knife

This is a great knife! The serrations are perfect. The tip seems relatively solid for a hawkbill. 5 stars for sure

My Fishing Knife

Shawn C.

The Tasman Salt 2 is an exceptional tool for so many functions but for me personally, this is my fishing knife. Kayak, fly, surf, shore, I use this knife more than any other that I carry. I use it hard and best of all I don't have to worry about it rusting. It's so easy to keep clean: soap and water under the sink (and I couldn't do that with any other knife i own except other salt read more series). I think this is one of the best attributes of H2 steel and no steel liners. Yes, H2 doesn't hold an edge like others but this steel is not made for edged retention but for a more carefree free maintenance plan and when you have a hobby or job, etc that has a demanding environment you don't want to worry about dirt, grime, rust and fish guts. So for me this knife actually allows me to maintain less and fish more.

Buy this one.

Like a Delica with a hooked blade. A thing of beauty.

The serrations make this an even better boat knife, garden knife and box-eating knife than the PE version.

I bought one in each edge style, and serrated wins by a mile.

I have other blades for tasks that benefit from slicing-style blades, and I don't like serrated edges on those knives. For every task that read more this knife has been good at, the serrations make it better.

Love H1!

Got this as a gift and was skeptical about a hawkbill but was surprised in its usefulness for an EDC. Little awkward for food prep but no complaints otherwise. H1 steel is amazing. This knife is always my go to for water activities. Rode in my board shorts pockets for a weeks worth of ocean water and salt water pools in the Caribbean and not a speck of rust.

Great Knife

I really like the salt series of knives and no one does a serrated edge better than Spyderco. It knife is very light weight, fits great in the hand and cuts like a beast. The only draw back is how wide it is in the pocket. It knew that it would be wider in my pocket due to the Hawkbill design but I underestimated it. I would handle one in person first before you decide to buy one read more and carry it in your front pocket.

Flimsy feel

Didn't realize the handle didn't contain a metal liner, so the handle has a flimsy feel to it. Not robust enough for stripping #4 coated copper (bird wire) which was my desired use. Hard to find a quality hawkbill for utility purposes. Great for opening boxes and cutting rope. Would work fine for the average user.
