About Spyderco Vallotton

This Spyderco Vallotton Sub-Hilt folder has been converted to a dual-action automatic by Butch Vallotton. It features a scale release and automatic action that is simply terrific! This knife is marked on the back side of the blade with Vallotton "V" and serial number.Butch Vallotton, like most knifemakers, started making Knives as a hobby, had to start selling Knives to pay for his hobby and before he knew it became a professional fulltime knifemaker in 1984 with a waiting list of customers at the age of thirty. A self-proclaimed gadget freak, a good part of his business comes from Automatic Knives and he is credited with inventing the ambidextrous blade thumb stud. His collaboration with Spyderco called the Vallotton Sub Hilt Folder features an ambidextrous thumb stud that both opens the blade (in addition to the Spyderco Round Hole) and doubles as a stop pin keeping the blade from rotating open beyond the locked position. A long time fan of Italian-style, heavy-stock folders the Sub-Hilt beARS an international flavor with a MODified coffin-shaped handle of polished black G-10 with tongue-and-groove fitted stainless bolsters. Further complementing the handle is a Michael Walker LinerLock® a four-way: tip-up/tip-down, right- or left-handed steel clip and screw-together scale construction. Crucible Steel Inc. of New York produces the CPM-S30V powdered steel used for the MODified Tanto-shaped blade. The blade is hollow-ground at the cutting edge with a convex-grind at the tip and is offered PlainEdged for the best available cutting performance.

Stout, sharp and lots of style - just like me. This ain't a knife for scaredy-cats with soft finders. When this confident man's knife opens with authority, every head turns. Great materials, excellent fit and finish and a pleasure to use. My favorite Spyderco.

Great knife, very smooth opening and closing, it locks into place with authority especially when you wave open it! My brother had bought me one for my birthday which I unfortunately lost but had to replace I loved rocking this wherever I went, it’s bulky and powerful but with it’s design and look I personally believe it can be matched with a suit and be classy as well!

Classy, Useful, Large, and in Charge

I've been looking at this knife for years, and finally got the umph to buy it and man, it is wonderful. It is made from great materials, as far as I know, and came hair popping sharp right out of the box. I love the overall classy look, and feel like a proper gentleman whenever I pull it out.

The convex grind at the tip is especially nice for my everyday needs, as it provides read more just enough extra strength for me to not be afraid of using it. The thumb stud, though I was weary at first, is actually quite comfortable and does not interfere with they spydie hole at all! I can flick it open no matter how I hold it if I want.

I did notice a slight bit of lock stick, and I am just hoping it wears in after some time, but it does not defer from the overall performance so I give this 5 stars. I also give this warning; it is quite large and bulky. If you're looking for a slim gentleman's folder, this won't be for you.
