Suffers from a single crippling flaw
Steel Will Modus Not enough retention. The blade does not deploy fully unless you are very conscious when opening it. Maximum finger energy required. On numerous occasions, I have attempted to whip the Modus out and I have been left with a half-mast blade. This is embarrassing. Such a feeling of disappointment. Wrist flick may be necessary.

the blade shape is really great, and it is plenty ergonomic. I love the blue backspacer and have received many compliments on the Modus' looks. The pocket clip is not deep carry, but that is actually okay because it shows off the backspacer.
It looks and feels great in the hand, if they could just get the opening figured out it might be a five-star. I would have to recommend the Honey Badger instead. 73/100
Poor QC
I purchased this directly from Steel Will. The blade was great but that's it. The liners are thin and flimsy with play on lock up. 1 scale was warped bad enough to rub the blade when closing. None of the screws were tight and no thread lock is used. I sent this back to Steel Will along with the Intrigue. I don't recommend this company even in its price bracket.
Believe the hype
This knife is as good as all the reviews. A good deal for $42. Looks good. Feels good in the hand. All around awesome knife. I have several more expensive knives and this one hangs with the best if them.
A Knife To End World Hunger
Well, it may not end world hunger but it is a great knife. The blade wasn't perfectly centered for mine, but that doesn't matter to me. As long as it doesn't rub I won't complain.

so I wouldn't worry about it. the one complaint I have is that the D2 is very shiny (which is good) but is smudges if you even look at it the wrong way. But that's really it.

Steel liner lock is a little thin for me, but as long as I don't abuse hardcore I think it'll be fine.
Every Thing The G-10 Version Should Have Been
I recently bought the Modus in G-10 with m-390 blade steel and it is bad. Very bad. This knife however is good. Very good. This knife has steel liners on BOTH sides unlike the G-10 version and this helps a lot. No blade play here. The pivot is tight and perfect. Overall fit and finish are better as well. Funny how the 50 dollar version is vastly superior to the 160 dollar version…

I would say after buying both versions that the D2 version is superior in every way. even the price is better. D2 steel is perfectly good to go. Sharp and strong.

Steel Will Modus D2 steel
I purchased this about a month ago and I have been very impressed with it. It has a centered D2 blade with zero blade play and very good flipping performance. It's not like a ball bearing pivot but the phosphorus bronze washers do very well. I love the sheepsfoot blade shape. The D2 steel is good. It's not the best but Steel Will offers an upgrade to M390 so that makes it good for… read more budget and high end. This is an awesome knife and I highly recommend it. I will be getting the high end model to round out the collection. This is the best beater flipper I have ever owned. If you are on the fence about the high end then purchase the D2 model and go from there. That is what I did. It's definitely worth the price.
Great budget knife.
This knife surprised me in every way. It has a fairly beefy blade and the steel lined frn handles are very comfortable while providing excellent grip.The blade wasn't quite as sharp as I like so I just touched it up a bit. I use it for breaking down boxes,cutting straps and the like.It's a great slicer that has good edge retention and no hot spots.
