Gerber Automatic Knives

Gerber Legendary Blades is a maker of consumer knives and multitools headquartered in Tiger Point Business Park in Portland, Oregon, United States. Gerber was established in 1939 by Pete Gerber. Currently, Gerber is a sub-division of Fiskars Brands Inc, owned by the Finnish company Fiskars Corporation. The company sells through such outlets as sporting goods stores, online retailers and distributors. The company's roots began with Joseph Ridges' son, who obtained the patent for a serrated bread knife from his father's employer W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company and subsequently left to form his own cutlery business called Rockwell Knife Company which operated from 1909 to 1910; he eventually went on to form Ridge Tool Company of Elyria Ohio where he designed and manufactured bits for rock drills used in coal mines . His nephew Peter Gerber (1910–1996) apprenticed under him at the tool company before eventually moving to Portland Oregon where he started an advertising agency that specialized in promoting outdoor products; one of his clients happened to be Rockwell Knife Co.. In 1939 during the build-up prior World War II ,Gerber recognized the need for quality knives that could be used by American soldiers especially paratroopers ; your average pocket knife just wasn't going cut it (no pun intended). So at Rockwell's request he flew back east designed a folding hunting knife with a 6 inch blade which was given official approval by the U.S . Army .. Looking for Gerber Automatic Knives?
