Beautiful knife every day carry

Warren G.

I have carried this knife every day for 3 years now. This has been the best and most reliable pocket knife I could have ever asked for. Recently for the first time since I unboxed it, I had to lube the inside of the knife because it stopped opening. The second I lubed it up the thing shot out faster than it did when I took it out of its' packaging. The only word of caution is for read more those with weak thumbs the force it takes to push the button up can definitely deter some from using it.

All in all a fantastic knife with excellent build quality that will keep an edge forever.

Nice Piece!

Admittedly, I just got this knife yesterday, but I'm actually pretty impressed. OTF knives are usually either really pricey or somewhat junky. This is neither of those things. The action has a really nice snap, both out and back in, there is very little blade play when deployed, and I easily shaved a bald spot on my forearm with it, straight out of the box. I'm really happy with read more this purchase. Not sure what else I can say about it. If you're on the fence, trying to decide whether or not to buy one... go for it. You won't regret it.

Not bad for price

Decent OTF for the price. Snappy and sharp. Solid knife overall.

Horrible Quality

Bought this knife and within 2 hours it was about 50% if it would come out and actually lock. I'll have to pull the blade back into the slider for it to work again. Would never buy!

Very well made!

This is going on my collection as entry level knife, I just ordered the Evo xtreme dagger and I can't wait until it gets here... Absolutely blown away by the quality of these knives... Definitely a AKC proud owner... Thanks bladehq and grindworx...

Excellent purchase! Huge surprise!

Never owned an OTF before, and finding a budget-friendly double action is nearly impossible, except for the AKC F16. Though it was going to feel light, awkward, and rattle; I mean it's a sub$100 OTF knife. I WAS WRONG. It's got enough weight to feel substantive, the action is amazing (will not accidentally go off) does not rattle closed or open, very sharp blade out the box. As read more the next level up is pretty much the Microtech in the $300 range, this is an excellent starters option. I've spent my whole life in the Military/professional world and I use my tools like tools; I don't buy a $300 watch or $400 pair of boots, because if they break (work won't reimburse) and if you touch something you really don't want to take home with you, tossing a $60 pair of boots/watch/or knife in the trash ain't a big deal. BUY THIS KNIFE! I'll be getting more in different colors.

Works Fine

Very little play in the blade when its deployed. Ya 440 A isn't the best material but it fires strong and fast. For $50 and made in Italy the F16 is cool and capable. 👤

Love it.

Unbelievably sharp right out of the box. I just got the last one today I know this cuz I just checked to see if they had any more in stock and they don't too bad I was going to buy a few more I love this life so much I was going to buy many for Christmas presents works great no problems with it but this is my first day with it if you're going to buy an expensive knife I wouldn't read more bother this one is perfect and it's a low price if you've never bought one I'd buy this one first it's a great knife and I'm not disappointed at all

Overall the knife is great, sharpens up nicely. Reliable firing. Only problem I have is that the 2nd edge goes dull as soon as you fire it because it rubs against the handle. The first egde is fine. Doesn't rub at all. So basically you have a knife with a false edge.

Impressive Knife!

I bought this knife a few months ago, and since then, I have used it every single day - easily 20 openings and closings per day. At first, I was worried that the mechanism would wear out or the blade would become loose, but no such problems arose. The only issue I had was the powder and grip tape wearing off. I ended up refinishing the knife case into a brushed aluminum look that read more I actually like better than the original powder coat. The mechanism will also become rough if it is not properly lubricated and cleaned every couple of months.

Pros:
- Super durable mechanism
- Blade stays fairly sharp and is easy to sharpen
- Holds up well to abuse

Cons:
- Powder coating wears off easily
- Mechanism needs to be lubricated every few months

The double action is amazing. The blade came sharp and arrived in only three days. Feels very durable and sturdy with almost zero blade play. Knife opens great and is really easy to use. Comes with a pretty convenient clip as well. Highly recommend especially for the price.

Nice knife for the price

Christopher K.

When I received the knife one side of the blade was razor sharp the other side of the blade was not as sharp. I wound up sharpening it with my hand held sharpener and this did the trick. One thing is the hole where the switch is is getting a accumulation black soot not sure what is causing this does not hinder the knife though. The action when opening it and retracting is very good. read more There is very little play in the blade. This color kind of makes the knife look like a kids knife but trust me it is not good for children especially as their first knife. The tip is extremely sharp probably partly due to the size of the blade. I had it held in my right hand and moved my hand and the tip hit my left left finger and it pincered it. For this price point it is well worth it. This is my first Italian knife in my collection. I do recommend the knife to others.

For the price? Awesome

This is my first OTF and I absolutely love it.

- I thought this knife would be like a cheap low quality knife but I'm pleasantly surprised to see that's not the case.

- Handle feels good in the hands, and has a grippy sandy black bit in the middle.

- Knife is sharp out of the box and a snappy opening with little play.

- The opening of the knife actually read more takes more strength than you'd think and it being my first OTF, it'll take some getting used to but good to know it'll take effort to open up in your pocket if you're worried about that.

My first OTF

Preston F.

Don't remember who but there is a video that recommends this knife as a good entry into the OTF life. It was out of stock in my wish list and got to the OK to order the other knife in there and it was available so I got them both. Yes the handle is a little bulky yes there is some slop in the blade once locked up but OMG what action. It does take a little pressure to get it to fire read more but it is not terrible. My only complaint is after just a couple carry days other stuff in my pocket has started to knock some of the finish off but that is more about the other junk in my pocket than the knife.

Awesome Knife!

My knife arrived today and I couldn't be more pleased. Everything about it is top-notch, and I feel that I got an excellent deal on an outstanding knife.

Built well. Would pay more for better steel!

Joseph A.

Had this a while and really like it. A little blade play, but not much. It was my first OTF and it didn't break the bank, I was impressed. Happy with the format, I decided to spend a little more on a "premium" OTF...

That's when I discovered how much this knife had spoiled me! I bought an (ahem) "ultra" expensive OTF, and was disappointed to discover that the build quality read more wasn't any better than my trusty F-16. In fact in many ways the F-16 feels better built. At least it doesn't rattle when I shake it. It has an aluminum handle just like my ultra-overpriced OTF. But the F-16 actually has a bit of texture, so it won't go flying in a self defense situation (which is of course a realistic scenario that happens all the time, lol). Every time I carry it, I've got a big smile on my face because I don't feel like a sucker for spending $300 on it. Don't know whether to laugh or cry about that, heh.

As for cons, there aren't much:

The blade steel is the biggest one. I would gladly pay another $20 or so for D2. Honestly I think they could print money with that.

Only other nitpick: the pocket clip sure is a jeans-shredder. But that's nothing a pair of pliers can't fix. Easier to loosen a too-tight clip than the other way around. And honestly, with the slim profile this is a good candidate to simply remove the clip altogether and carry it in your pocket. Which I know is blasphemy these days...I'll have to ask my grandparents how people ever managed to get through the day without pocket clips, not to mention deep-carry.

Awesome Budget OTF

STEVEN G.

Ever since I started looking into my next auto/OTF knife, AKC has intrigued me.

I kept seeing them in the Blade HQ videos as a great budget OTF option. After all--aside from the Boker OTF--most OTF knives are easily $300+/$400+/$500+.

So, when you're curious about an OTF but don't want to break the bank, it's only natural to question if a budget OTF is worth the saving.

I'm read more happy--or as I like to say when playing with auto knives: snap-happy--to say that the AKC F-16 is good-to-go!

It may never replace a truly high-end OTF, but it's still very satisfying, especially for the fidget factor.

So if all you want is something to fidget around, then AKC is A-Okay.
However, if you need a quality workhorse OTF, then start saving some pennies because the quality ones are gonna cost.

So far, my F-16 has functioned perfectly. No problems with any of the mechanics. Always strong fire/return action.

At $60, I don't expect perfect fit & finish, so imperfect grinds and frame seams aren't offensive.

After a full day of fidgeting with the open/close action, I did find a loose body screw. Easy fix with blue Loctite.

The narrow blade width makes it challenging to clamp on my Lansky sharpening system, but it does barely fit.

So, if you want your knife to be a cutter, maybe consider how you're going to maintain the edge.

Otherwise, buy it! Even if it's just for the fun of it, we've all spent $60 on worse things.

Oh, and lastly, the clip is super heavy (tension-wise), so be prepared to flex it in order to get it over the lip of your pocket.

Enjoy!

thumb slide is a bit stiff, but everything works perfect, better as an everyday knife.

Great price for an excellent OTF knife

David A.

I'm not blessed with a lot of extra bucks to buy a $200+ OTF auto knife that I really want. So, I bought one earlier this year which I thought was a great bargain and amazing, but this F-16, is perfect. One button control, and super fast in and out, not real big and heavy (which the last purchase was). They could have put the grip material on both sides, but I won't strike it down read more for that, just a suggestion. My hats off to AKC. Even at regular price for what you get, it is a great deal.

Didn't work at all.

Steven S.

For the low price I didn't expect much from this knife. However I did think it would at least deploy the blade a few times. At first the slide stuck and nothing happened. Then the blade "fell free" when I tipped the knife downward. The blade fell back into the handle when I tipped the knife up. The slide still would not move, but now the blade was stuck in the handle. At least the read more sample I got was a total piece of junk. Definitely not up to the usual high standard of Blade HQ. PS. I sent the requested return info to Blade HQ but am still waiting for a reply, shipping label and instructions. This too is not like them.

Loved It.

Bought this for my wife, it came early, I got up the morning it got here still thinking it had a couple of days before arrival. My wife walked up to me and said" got something to show you and Snap and out shoots the blade".To be honest it scared the shit out of me!! lol. Her quote is, "it's awesome and I love it. No complaints at all.

Design Flaw

Josiah J.

The AKC F-16 is a great knife for the money, however the double-edged dagger version that I bought has a design flaw. If you know how an OTF works, there are two spring-loaded locks inside to keep the knife in or out. The one near the opening of the handle which keeps the knife out presses against the back edge of the blade while deploying or retracing. This dulls the back edge read more with each action, making it impossible to keep the back edge sharp. I wish I bought the single edge version now.

Excellent Budget OTF

AARON T.

For the price you get a decent OTF. Quality wise its worth the price. Has not failed to deploy yet. It takes a bit of force to actuate. Your thumbs will be swole after playing with this for a while lol. Solid construction though could have been more attention paid to detail. Overall nice!

Love this knife !!!

Richard F.

I liked this particular F-16 because of the way the black & white handle compliments the black & white blade.
The knife itself is excellent for the money. Action is great. Blade steel is better than you will ever need on an OTF. Looks cool. Works great. Feels great.
Can't go wrong with this one.

Not bad for the price, may grow on you

RB B.

I ordered this because I am a knife collector and the reviews all in all were good... and it was unusual. After having it a couple of days I have played with it a bit and must say that for the price it is not bad. Not to say it is up to par with a Microtech or Benchmade OTF but then they are many times more expensive. The blade came very sharp and I like the blade style. Since I read more wanted to use it for my non dominant left side, I do wish the clip was reversible and not so stiff, and the thumb slide was not so tight, but all in all I like it although still not sure if I will keep it. If you like this sort of thing it will probably grow on you as it harkens back to the 1950's and has an Italian feel about it.

Great for the money!

TIM S.

The only thing I don't like about it is the pocket clip holds on too tightly.
Hard to get the knife out with one hand. Still, better have it too tight than not hold at all.
In this price range, it's a great double action, OTF knife.
Good snappy action. I'd recommend it.

My Second OTF

Edmond W.

I like the price on this quality piece. I can actually work the AKCs thumb slide versus the stiff one on the Microtech. The AKC handle is straight & not contoured like the Microtech. The AKC handle is thicker than the Microtech. I like to see a glass breaker on the AKC. Not sure if the AKC trigger slide needs to be serrated. The grippy tape gets dirty. Made in Italy & not China. read more Happy with the purchase.

Joel F.

This is my first OTF, I wanted to see what all the fuss was about and if Zac could be trusted to give knife advice, NOT.Trying to figure out how to EDC this thing has been one of my main concerns with it. Even though it has a pocket clip doesn't mean that you want to carry it in your pocket. At almost 4 3/4" long, 1/2" thick and 11/16" wide not including the trigger and decorative read more nub this thing is a brick, it is bigger than the majority of my EDC knives. All of the hard edges create hot spots in the palm and thumb when using it and it takes quite a bit of pressure to trigger the blade. You don't want this knife if you have a propensity to sweaty palms or if you apply copious amounts of hand lotion. The deck tape applied to this knife isn't much help either unless you like sensitive finger tips for safe cracking or filing down your finger nails after a manicure. Zac says he likes this knife for the fidget factor so he is either a masochist or his hands are so calloused from all the hard labor he does that he can no longer feel anything. Go ahead and buy this knife if you happen to have an extra 50 bucks burning a hole in your pocket and you have gorilla hands but I would suggest saving up and buying something just a little bit better, I wish I had.

JASON H.

I'd be lying if I didn't say the novelty of this knife wasn't the bigger factor in purchasing it. This is a budget OTF similar in style to the ones I lusted after from flea markets and fairs in the 80s, so I have a lot of nostalgia attached to my opinions of this knife. For $50 you get budget steel with, from what I could see upon opening it up and cleaning it out, decent construction read more with good tolerances with how all the parts fit together. Novelty, aside, and I wouldn't carry this as my go-to EDC, but it is super convenient as far as one-handed knives go and I find it to be a good around the house knife. And it's just fun to own.

At $50, you wont be getting s90v and titanium, but thats okay. I think I speak for many people that the reason for buying and OTF is one handed ease of use and fidget fun. This knife isnt trying to be anything more than a useable beater OTF, and thats exactly why its good!

This is a surprisingly nice knife. This is my first OTF, and I am quite pleased. Sharp right out of the package, well made, pocket clip is very sturdy. For $50, this knife is impressive. Solid. Nice action.

Floyd B.

This is a no nonsense OTF. I like the action and the stability of the extended blade. It takes more than a light touch, which adds to pocket safety. Definitely not a gentlemans knife. This one is built tough.

I'm not disa-pointed

Jeffrey C.

The AKC F-16 is exactly what you would expect in a sub-$50 OTF. It's a low-end knife or a high-end letter opener, but either way, it's FUN!

The action is solid, deploying and retracting the 440 steel swiftly. The heavy handle feels solid in the hand and the deck tape grip, as silly as it seems, actually does the job it was given.

Until I can afford an Infidel, this read more is a perfectly fine OTF that has lots of fidget-value and coolness factor, if not EDC usefulness.

Give a knife to a friend

Rodney Y.

This knife really holds up. Easy and fun to flick in and out. Has a blade good enough to open packages, cut twigs in the back yard, and what ever. Point here is I use this one because it is very inexpensive. Yes, I own a Microtech UTX-85, but I don't want to hack around with it like I do this one. I bought a second one and gave it to my best friend, who now always carries it. By read more the way, the saying, "give a knife to a friend and sever the relationship," is not true.

Inexpensive but great quality OTF

I saw your video on AKC knives and I took a chance on this particular model. Your review was spot on. This model is a great buy at 50.00. It has great action, solid feel and very and I mean very little blade play when deployed. Will definitely keep an eye out for more of these deals. Oh by the way
the point on this blade is as sharp as any I have seen. Please be careful. I would read more definitely recommend this knife if your looking for a good everyday carry .

I know that this is an inexpensive knife. And it probably wouldn't stand up to brutal heavy work... but I love it. Just a little blade play, but I expected some. But it came very sharp, and the sound of it snapping out and retracting is exciting. Very snappy. I'll probably play with it all night. hahaha.

And BladeHQ... you guys always surprise me how fast you ship. Thanks read more guys for such great service.

Surprising

OK, this one was confusing. The price was so low I was really on the fence. The action is amazing, like a top end OTF. The price is stellar on these. The grip is pretty good as is the lock-up. The only downside I found on this knife was that I feel the blade steel to be lack-luster compared to everything else about it. I wish it came with a steel that holds an edge better, the action read more deserves that, it really is superb. I would feel confident recommending this knife to friends as a cost-effective OTF.

The knife is an amazing blade for $50. Reliable and great for one-handed use. That's an overlooked feature with OTF's, they are VERY useful and safe. Blade out. Blade in, back to work, every time. Really nice OTF for the price. It's not top quality blade steel but the overall construction, fit and finish is top notch. Quick and snappy action and haven't had any misfires yet. I am a knife collector, maybe a knifeaholic. This is one of the best values I have seen.
Very stable blade and the push button is such that an accidental opening would be nearly impossible. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the wood insert was not attached when I received the knife, but some super glue gel solved that issue. Go ahead and buy one, you wont be sorry.

A blast!!!

Joshua S.

Wow, for the price this is a solid OTF!! It has expected blade play for its price point BUT I am pleasantly surprised with how hard it fires and the lack of misfires. I have play fired this hundreds of times over the past few weeks and it has not failed to fire, not once. That is pretty impressive for a OTF at this price point. Blade is a tad thicker than I thought it would be... read more but not a huge deal.... just makes sharpening a little trickier, not the end of the world tho.
I might even pick up the single edge version of this as well for standard daily utility tasks. OTFs are legal in Florida so I wouldn't mind carrying the single edge as a back up EDC.
I won't lie - I picked this up more for a adult toy and back up "stabber" (i have a stalker and now carry 2 blades at all times)

Quality OTF

This is actually a pretty nice little OTF for under $50. Quick and snappy action and a nice overall fit and finish. The spring "ting" is a little loud at times, but you should be able to dampen it with a small dab of grease on the spring if you open it up. I really like the light weight compared to some of the Microtech knockoffs that weigh up to 8 or 9 ounces.

Akc F16 ftw!

This thing is truly the most reliable otf I've had. I bought it initially as a test just to see what it could take and I've had it almost a year now with no issues. It's been thrown, used as a hammer, pryed multiple things automotive and carpentry related, and only recently did the tip brake because I was trying to separate 2 pieces if tile flooring. Well worth the $50 and I am read more definitely buying another. Only qualm I have is the texured grip does wear off after a while, but that's also after 6 months of daily torture. Great buy!

Own A few Otf's Including a MicroTech

The F16 is well designed. Has very little blade play. Well, only a margin more then my Microtech utratec costing much more. All otf's have some sort of play that's in their nature.. For the price it's an excellent value. I would like to see Akc ad more grip tape to the sides. And gimping to the firing lever. Possibly a window breaker. Akc hope your listening.

Great value

If you're not sure that you'll like a double actions otf, this is the way to go. Action is snappy, and reliable. 440a at fifty bucks might seem a little steep, but with an original design, aluminum handles, and a complex action, I can forgive it.

For $49 for an OTF I wasnt really expecting much, but when I got it I was very impressed with the quality. I have played with it a lot and it is just as snappy as when I first got it. This knife is definitely the Microtech of budget OTF's

This F-16 is an awesome purchase for anyone wanting an OTF and dont want to break the bank! Its a super solid and for the price pretty great quality for a medium to low end knife. The blade came super sharp and the pop sound it makes when you fire it is magic! I would highly recommend this knife!

Overall I am rather impressed with this knife. The action is smooth and fires hard. The fit and finish is much better than it's price tag would lead you to think. There is the expected blade play, but it is very minimal. The blade was sharp and the 440A should make it easy to maintain. Should be good for light duty use.

I initially wanted to try this knife out and decided read more to get this olive drab version since it was the least expensive one. But now that I have it, I'm probably going to get more of them. Compared to other inexpensive OTF's in the same price range, I feel this one is at the top!

Great deal for an OTF

This is a very well made OTF. Minimal blade play and lightning fast action. Handle ergonomics are not great because of the lack of smooth edges (hot spots galore), but who cares because an OTF is not made for bushcraft. Highly recommend!

The AKC F16 is just as good as a Microtech Ultratech except for blade steel, which is 440A as opposed to El Max steel on the Microtech. The F16 has just as much or less blade play than an Ultratech for a fraction of the price and is a solid OTF. Why do you think they keep selling out?

Such a satisfying sound. For the price shes not a bad knife. My only knock on it is size and weight. Shes a bit bulky and very heavy. Other than that she stays at my bedside.

I wouldn't recommend this for EDC, but for rough areas or for self defence, it would get the job done. This blade is smooth and fast. My only complaint is when the blade is out there is a little play and it could be a little more sharp, but at this price range for an OTF its fantastic!

Perfect deal

This otf is so much lighter my other ones but feels so much better in the hand and has a very snappy action. Definitely could and would recommend this knife to anyone. This is the deal that keeps me buying from Bladehq

A Super OTF with a Low Price

This OTF is the best knife of it's type in the $40 price range.
Unlike the Chinese OTF's that are in the same price range this AKC knife will fire and release every time.
With the handle made of aluminum it keeps the weight down. It is marked as an Italian knife.
I think this will make a good light duty EDC knife.
Thanks Blade HQ for great prices and speedy shipping read more on your products.

Dude. For the $$ you can't beat it. The blade deployment feels like my $300 Benchmade. I've messed with this knife for a while and the safeties work and the blade easily pops back on track. Yeah its 440 steel but if you want to carry an Otf and not worry about damaging it, this is the perfect one.

Good knife, comes moderately sharp. The mechanism is pretty loud but thats no big deal if youre just buying this to play around with because its an OTF. I wouldnt suggest it as an EDC due to its noise level but if you dont mind drawing a bit of attention go for it.
