About AKC F-16 D/A Dagger OTF Automatic Knife Black (3.3" Two Tone)

The AKC F-16 is an EDC-friendly, MODern take on the classic stiletto. It is an automatic knife with double action, meaning that, by moving the thumb slide up and down, the blade automatically deploys and retracts. This makes it both easy to use with one hand and super fun to fidget with. It takes stylistic queues from the classic switchblade, but has more simplified shapes for a contemporary aesthetic. In short, this snappy OTF knife makes the impressive jet it was named after proud, and you’ll know just what we mean when you get your hands on one.Like what you see? Built well. Would pay more for better steel!

Had this a while and really like it. A little blade play, but not much. It was my first OTF and it didn't break the bank, I was impressed. Happy with the format, I decided to spend a little more on a "premium" OTF...

That's when I discovered how much this knife had spoiled me! I bought an (ahem) "ultra" expensive OTF, and was disappointed to discover that the build quality read more wasn't any better than my trusty F-16. In fact in many ways the F-16 feels better built. At least it doesn't rattle when I shake it. It has an aluminum handle just like my ultra-overpriced OTF. But the F-16 actually has a bit of texture, so it won't go flying in a self defense situation (which is of course a realistic scenario that happens all the time, lol). Every time I carry it, I've got a big smile on my face because I don't feel like a sucker for spending $300 on it. Don't know whether to laugh or cry about that, heh.

As for cons, there aren't much:

The blade steel is the biggest one. I would gladly pay another $20 or so for D2. Honestly I think they could print money with that.

Only other nitpick: the pocket clip sure is a jeans-shredder. But that's nothing a pair of pliers can't fix. Easier to loosen a too-tight clip than the other way around. And honestly, with the slim profile this is a good candidate to simply remove the clip altogether and carry it in your pocket. Which I know is blasphemy these days...I'll have to ask my grandparents how people ever managed to get through the day without pocket clips, not to mention deep-carry.

Awesome Budget OTF

STEVEN G.

Ever since I started looking into my next auto/OTF knife, AKC has intrigued me.

I kept seeing them in the Blade HQ videos as a great budget OTF option. After all--aside from the Boker OTF--most OTF knives are easily $300+/$400+/$500+.

So, when you're curious about an OTF but don't want to break the bank, it's only natural to question if a budget OTF is worth the saving.

I'm read more happy--or as I like to say when playing with auto knives: snap-happy--to say that the AKC F-16 is good-to-go!

It may never replace a truly high-end OTF, but it's still very satisfying, especially for the fidget factor.

So if all you want is something to fidget around, then AKC is A-Okay.
However, if you need a quality workhorse OTF, then start saving some pennies because the quality ones are gonna cost.

So far, my F-16 has functioned perfectly. No problems with any of the mechanics. Always strong fire/return action.

At $60, I don't expect perfect fit & finish, so imperfect grinds and frame seams aren't offensive.

After a full day of fidgeting with the open/close action, I did find a loose body screw. Easy fix with blue Loctite.

The narrow blade width makes it challenging to clamp on my Lansky sharpening system, but it does barely fit.

So, if you want your knife to be a cutter, maybe consider how you're going to maintain the edge.

Otherwise, buy it! Even if it's just for the fun of it, we've all spent $60 on worse things.

Oh, and lastly, the clip is super heavy (tension-wise), so be prepared to flex it in order to get it over the lip of your pocket.

Enjoy!

Loved It.

Bought this for my wife, it came early, I got up the morning it got here still thinking it had a couple of days before arrival. My wife walked up to me and said" got something to show you and Snap and out shoots the blade".To be honest it scared the shit out of me!! lol. Her quote is, "it's awesome and I love it. No complaints at all.

Design Flaw

The AKC F-16 is a great knife for the money, however the double-edged dagger version that I bought has a design flaw. If you know how an OTF works, there are two spring-loaded locks inside to keep the knife in or out. The one near the opening of the handle which keeps the knife out presses against the back edge of the blade while deploying or retracing. This dulls the back edge read more with each action, making it impossible to keep the back edge sharp. I wish I bought the single edge version now.

The only thing I don't like about it is the pocket clip holds on too tightly.
Hard to get the knife out with one hand. Still, better have it too tight than not hold at all.
In this price range, it's a great double action, OTF knife.
Good snappy action. I'd recommend it.
