Badass design, outstanding quality.

Robert L.

I believe this is my 24th purchase from BladeHQ. Love the site, love the service.

Of all the knives I've purchased thus far, from high-end Spydercos to more affordable QSPs and Kershaws.....this model from Civivi is my favorite. I've owned and loved the Brigand and Dogma among other Civivi models, but this design really hit the sweet spots for me personally.

A contoured read more G-10 handle, deep carry clip with flush screws, a truly unique blade shape with perfectly placed and elongated jimping (where your thumb ACTUALLY wants to rest for a change) on a 9CR18MOV chunk of steel that flies open effortlessly due to the bearings. I don't mind the "alphabet soup" steel as it's easy to sharpen compared to my 2 Hogue Dekas in CPM20CV.

I root for my home team as I'm sure you do, but for this steal of a deal, I have to give props (and my business) to Civivi with an ear-to-ear grin. Cheers!

Beautiful knife

James B.

I actually bought a second one of these knives
because I liked the first one so much.
The fit and finish are beautiful.
The knife opens with a flipper that is fast and secure.
The blade is extremely sharp and the edge is durable.
I have not needed to resharpen it yet.

The Sweet Spot

Rogue E.

Out of my 20 or so pocket knives, this is easily my most used and loved. Civivi absolutely nailed the design and execution of the Baklash. The appearance is both classy and tactical. Deployment is extremely smooth and reliable. Ergonomically it fits my medium-large size hands perfectly, whether I'm holding the handle or choking up on the blade. A 3.5" blade is plenty large to get read more almost any cutting task done. The Baklash is lightweight for its size, with an excellent pocket clip that makes it disappear in your pocket.
Even though I have knives that cost over $200, the Baklash finds its way into my hand and my pocket the most often. If I could only keep one knife, this would be it. 10/10.

Blade is made of glass

I cut the tape on a box and used the tip of the knife to flip open the flap like I've done a million time before and the blade shattered like glass...literally the first time I used it.

first off make sure you check your sizes folks, this knife is huge! cuts great and came amazingly sharp out of the box as all civivi knives do. one star detracted because its almost to big to use for my large sized hands.

A great knife for the $

A great EDC knife that's no so expensive you'll worry over losing it. Came sharp. The blue liners look great contrasted next to the black. You can see a quick video review over at the non-monetized YT channel Stabby Things.

Very sharp and smooth action

The hollow ground blade is very sharp out of the box. The action is insanely smooth. The knife looks good and cuts like a champ. Great value and quality!

What a nice knife! The fit and finish is really good. He is solid but not heavy. Very smooth action and a great blade. I am very happy and I would highly recommend this knife.

Not sure why the other review on this is so low but this knife is absolutely awesome. It does have some weight to it but it works so well and makes the knife feel super durable. Blade steel is awesome and the Civivi action is incredible!

Brass Paper Weight

Steve S.

I have several Baklash, love em. I saw this and liked the color with the black accents. Title says brass, features say G-10. It is BRASS, like the metal. This is a nice knife but it weighs a ton. Especially if you are used to the lighter weight version. It will stay in the collection but probably never see action. It's too heavy.

Another Great Civivi

Geoff A.

Yet another great Civivi knife!! This knife flies open with the flipper, locks solid and the fit and finish is awesome! The mirror polish damascus is nice, this one shows more pattern then the Hooigan blade which is nice. The is a semi heavy knife, weighs similar to a kershaw Launch 4, similar in size as well. Deep carry clips that Civivi use are great and knife hides in your pocket. read more

Good for the money.

I really like this knife, it fits good in the hand and is a comfortable size in my opinion. One gripe I have is the general quality. I got this knife about 9 months ago and the pocket clip broke so now I don’t have a pocket clip. This knife used to be me EDC but now I can’t carry it without a pocket clip. Other then that the action is good and it looks great.

Great, except for the spacer

GREG P.

Overall, this is a great knife at a great price! It's lightweight, a great size for larger hands, and sharp enough to cut you if you look at it wrong. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the blue anodized liners, but they're subtler in person than they come off in some photos. Blade is centered with no play, and the flip is smooth as glass.

Fidget factor is high with this knife... read more I have to remember not to take it out to flip open while I'm in a Zoom meeting for fear of making my co-workers nervous.

My sole critique is with the plastic spacer at the butt of the grip. If Civivi had sprung for some metal spacers instead of a solid lump of plastic, this would've been a five-star review, even if it resulted in a marginally higher price. Fortunately, that's easily taken care of with a couple of aftermarket parts, but it would've been nice if it came that way.

Buy it anyway. You're not going to do better for the price, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a knife that's as much fun.

this knife is a well built knife it flies open
sharp blade out of the box the Carbon Fiber Handles set this knife off i will be buying more civivi knive.

If you are one the fence about buying this knife do not hesitate!!

Exceptional value!

William M.

While 9cr18 steel may not be Grail quality, it is far superior to those used generations ago by our antecedents and is quite durable and maintainable! That said, the functionality of this knife IS Grail quality. Frankly, I think a manual flipper is the perfect deployer, though I would prefer a frame lock closer, given the option. Manual knives travel well domestically, though NY read more probably considers them a firearm! Pricewise, this has to be the best value around in an exceptional EDC knife!

UPDATE!

IMHO: Have revised my thoughts on frame lock vs liner lock; the liner lock preserves the integrity of the scales, and thus the aesthetics!

Premium Build, Budget Price

Thomas M.

I read and watched a few reviews on this knife before purchasing. The consensus was overwhelmingly positive, especially for the price. So, I decided to pull the trigger and see if this knife was a good as everyone was saying. As so far, I have to say that the knife lives up to the hype.

The flipping action on this knife is perfect right out of the box. The detent is tuned read more just right for a nice, crisp opening. It's extremely satisfying. If you are into fidgeting with your knives, this one will definitely scratch that itch. The knife is very sharp and consistent out of the box. The blade sits perfectly centered between the liners from the factory. The black G-10 / Carbon Fiber scales are personal preference, but I think they look sharp against the black stonewashed blade. Blade steel is 9Cr18MoV, which is nothing terribly special, but more than justified at this price range. I haven't had this knife long enough to speak to the edge retention qualities of this blade, but at the very least, 9Cr18MoV should resharpen quite easily.

Overall, I'm more than happy with the excellent design and build quality of the knife. I'd love to see a special run with a higher end blade steel someday, as the rest of the design and execution has been done so well. But for the price, this knife is definitely worth a try. And based on this experience, I'll be sure to check out more of what Civivi has to offer.

Nice handle, poor blade

Michael J.

Look its a good price for the beautiful ebony wood handle and a pretty looking satin blade with a decent liner lock. Mine went dull extremely quickly, but that is exactly what I expected from this steel. Its a neat little knife to have around and play with but other than that I wouldn't recommend it for much else. On the good side I do really like the blade shape and presentation read more from CIVIVI.

First Civivi, I couldn't be happier! Looks, operation and blade all extremely sharp and action is fluid! Exceptional value for under $50! My only wish would be for the steel to be upgraded to VG10.

A fun knife

Bonnie L.

My boss told me Civivi made great little knives and I so I decided to try one out.

Right out of the box, it's sharp. It's also pretty lightweight and feels amazing in the hand. The ergonomics are just right, especially with the ridged thumb area on top of the blade. It also feels very balanced and flipping this is a lot of fun. (Maybe a little too much as I find myself playing read more with it at my desk at work.) And deep pocket carry is always welcome.

I truly hope the rest of Civivi's lineup is as good as this one. I've been known to buy knives when bored, or sad, or happy or ... And it'd be nice to have a quality brand that's not gonna kill my bank when the urge hits.

I can't stop picking this knife up!!!!

I decided to add to my Civivi collection with the purchase of a knife with a bigger handle and blade than the elementum. I was not sure how the black stonewash on carbon fiber scales would look. But, man does this thing look sharp. It has become my main EDC knife!!! Sharp out the box and great action on the flip.

Civivi is a new go-to budget recommendation for me

Cassidy S.

Civivi is earning a name for itself as an excellent budget knife brand, and rightly so. The action on these knives are very smooth, the weight is distributed nicely, and they come in both dressed-up (carbon fiber) and dressed-down (G10) options. This is a good size for a daily use knife and feels like a much more expensive blade than it is.

The Carrot

Derek P.

I've nicknamed this knife "The Carrot". The Orange G-10 makes it look like a peeled carrot when it's closed. Absolutely love the shape of this drop-point. Very smooth action. Sits in your hand really well, especially with the extra room from the choil. Great deep-carry pocket clip. I am absolutely enamored with this knife, so much so, that I want to purchase other versions of the read more Baklash as well!

Best bang for your buck

Eric T.

This knife is great!
Fit and finish is absolutely amazing for the price point. I got the Baklash at the same time as a Hogue Deka, which is a $146 knife.
And even though I love the action on the Deka I have to say the fit and finish on this Civivi is better. I'm really impressed!
I also really like the ergonomics and the ball-bearing action is great.
Aesthetically, I read more think the knife is very cool and I love the blue accents from the liner, they give a splash of color without being too dramatic.
The only thing I would change is the pocket clip, which has a polished finish that, in my opinion, draws a little too much attention (bling on the front of your pocket). I would prefer something more discreet with a black finish, or at least satin.
This is my first Civivi, but certainly won't be the last. I would really like if they started doing more knives with a black finish on the blade (which is my personal preference).

Wow!

Tanner S.

I can't stop flipping this knife! The scales are not super aggressive, but provide enough grip to ensure it doesn't slip in the hand. After about 100 cycles and a little adjustment on the pivot screw, this thing opens and closes so smooth and easy. Really, it should cost 2-3x's what BladeHQ is charging.

This definitely won't be my last Civivi!

Very Nice Knife

Shawn F.

This was the first knife I ever bought with a damascus pattern. The knife carries well, fit and finish was spectacular, as we have all come to know and love from Civivi. The G10 feels nice and grippy. The damascus pattern was quite pretty and the edge was extremely sharp out of the box. It flipped quite well too. Overall, this is one of the best value/cost ratio damascus knives read more on the market!

Great budget knife with quality feel

Deven P.

Love this knife so far! It is my first Civivi/WE knife and I am already saving for a WE after handling this knife.

Knife came in a beautiful zippered pouch with instructions and stickers. Out of the box, it had a good edge on it and the bearings/pivot were well-oiled. It flicks open with hardly any effort and locks up tight! The more I use it, the less effort it takes to read more open and close. IT IS SO SMOOTH.

Have only had a few days so I cannot speak to the durability, but I am confident it will hold up to my light daily use. Great deep carry clip and rides in the pocket well. No sharp edges to catch my hand as I reach into my pocket. Love the blue liners with the tan scales. Great knife, would highly recommend!

Nice Knife

David W.

Aesthetically beautiful, smooth action and decent budget steel...9Cr18MoV is at the top of Chinese "CrMov" steels (8Cr13MoV etc). It isn't quite as good as D2 but better than most in its price range, it's similar to 440C and better than AUS8.

Centering, grind and finish are all spot on. Deep carry clip, no blade play and the blue liners look great with the black scales. Good read more jimping on the spine and a decent finger choil.

I now own three budget Chinese flippers--an Artisan Cutlery Tradition and a Kizer Vanguard Dukes in addition to this--and the Civivi will probably be getting the most pocket time, though the others are cool in their own way...if the Baklash was available from WE in a premium steel I'd be tempted, the quality and styling are truly impressive. Another reviewer said he was turned off by the "vanilla" looks but I strongly disagree, the Baklash is simple yet elegant to my eyes.

Another hit

Jerrod T.

This is my second Civivi and I am just really impressed with the overall quality of these knives. I love the blade shape and size! The liners look like a baby blue in person (which is ok and not a deal breaker) though from the photos I was expecting a little more highlight. My only complaint so far is that the flipper stud is a little sharp. Really keeps me from fidgeting with it read more too much. Buy all the Civivis!

Very Happy!

Frank H.

First off, I am an old guy from an era when Chinese made meant super low quality so I was on the fence about this knife. I have to say that this knife shattered a stereotype for me. The fit and finish are perfect. The action is smooth and positive. I am not a knife aficionado so blade steel doesn't really sway me one way or another. The look and feel of this knife belies its price read more point. This is an excellent value!

Beautiful smooth knife for the money

David D.

sharp and smooth right out of the box. This has bearings in it so might not be ideal for a work knife if your getting powder and dirt in your pockets since that would gunk up the bearings. I use this more as a dress knife. Flawless action, nice blade centering, excellent attention to detail. This knife is a keeper. Highly recommended.

Great knife, and I upgraded it!

Valentin P.

Long story short: I swapped G10 handles for Ebony handles from another Backlash, and titanium pocket clip from Wyvern. Now it is too good to carry daily!

Great value for price

Ben M.

the Civivi brand is possibly the best value for the money in the knife market right now. This one has great flipping action and a solid lockup. If this is the price range you're looking at, you won't be disappointed in your purchase.

Awesome value!

Thomas J.

This is a great knife. Everything I ever heard or read about Civivi knives is true. For the money, this is a solid flipper. The Baklash is a pretty big knife for me, but I'm glad I went with it as a first Civivi purchase. Action is perfect and steel is razor sharp and well aligned. The ebony wood scales are a nice touch and well done. Thanks Blade HQ!

Another win for Civivi

Anthony K.

I have never had a bad Civivi, and this is no exception. Amazing action, quality materials, and functional design. I just don't see many sub-$100 knives competing with this one, other than maybe another Civivi.

As for the ebony scales, they are nice, but don't look a whole lot different than my Baklash with black G10 scales. They do feel nice and smooth in the hand though. read more

Also, some of the best ergonomics on a knife out there. It has what I'd consider a nearly perfect forward finger choil and jimping.

Awesome!

Peter J.

I'm very pleased with the quality of this knife. The blade has a super sharp edge, and it opens effortlessly. It's comfortable in the hand while open, and is hardly noticeable in the pocket. These knives are so addicting! Now I have to shop for another.

Great knife for the price

John S.

First Civivi. They have the reputation of making high quality knifes with good finish at a decent price, and this did not disappoint. Been wanting something in damascus for a while. Blade was sharp, mirror polished. Snappy action that worked well. Feels really good in hand, love the finger choil. Nice G10. Couldn't ask for a better knife for the price. Been carrying it for two weeks read more now, and have enjoyed using if every chance I get.

Definitely would buy again.

Truly Impressive

Frank X.

Given the popularity, form factor, design details, and most especially the price, I had to get one of these to see what the big deal was. I am astonished at the build and material quality for this price. Fit and finish are top notch, action is great, blade centering good, no blade play. Love the blade shape (finger choil a nice touch and works perfectly for me). Hardware--especially read more the machined/logo'd pivot--is nicer than brands costing several times more. Although wasn't sure about the polished blue liners at first, even those are growing on me. Other than the "meh" 9Cr18MoV blade steel (understandable at this price point), only issue I see on mine is a weird (but very slight) blade stain on one side near the edge. No functional issues though.

Best Value Damascus

Bryan O.

This is the first Civivi knife and damascus blade I've gotten. I have to say that the quality, although produced in China, is one of the best for its price point. Compared to other Chinese manufactured blades, such as the Spyderco Tenacious, the action on this Baklash is much smoother. It even competes (and sometimes beats) with higher end blades. I'm not sure if this is due to read more the damascus blade and additional tuning required to achieve this level of action. Will know more after I get my next Civivi knife without damascus steel to make a comparison.

Baklash goodness, all dressed up

James D.

If you already own a Baklash, then you know why it's a great knife -- snappy action, great feel in the hand, a natural-born slicer and a bargain price. If you don't, well, I guess I just told you.
In either case, this version is a great buy. The Damascus is practically mirror-polished, and paired with the black G-10 elevates this to gentleman's (or lady's) knife status. Get read more this one to show off with (even just to yourself), and pick up a non-Damascus model to use and abuse. Another great Civivi.

Detent is really nice it has the perfect amount. And oh man the blue scales just so beautiful and this knife feels really nice in the hand only thing was the liner lock took a bit used to doing it was read more a bit sticky but after an hour or so of playing with it it got smoother and ran beautifully

I was unsure when I ordered this knife because it sort of looks like any number of other knives in design and appearance but after reading so many good reviews, I decided to go for it. Scary good

Jack M.

I bought this from an email sale offer from BHQ. I liked the look of the piece, but the China thing made me hesitant. I figured for the price, I’d get it & proceed to trash it as an example of Asian junk.
I went over this unit with a magnifying glass, feeler gages, & calipers, & found zip wrong with it. This is one of the better knives I own (among ~70, many from individual read more makers); the quality of build is absolutely top notch. Literally shaving sharp, smooth operation/lockup, & solid feel.
Everyone to whom I’ve shown it is impressed by the level of quality, & virtually floored when I tell them where it is manufactured.
Outstanding value.

Smooth and slicey

James D.

Very thin behind the edge so it loves to cut. The action is effortless and satisfying, and the design touches set this apart from the crowd. My only minor wish would be for a slightly stronger detent, because if you swing the blade shut (which you can do easily once you unlock it), it will sometimes rebound off the stop and bounce open a little. Not a big deal by any means, and read more especially at this price. True, this steel means you'll need to sharpen sooner rather than later, but it is such a razor out of the box that I'm sure it will take a great edge when it finally needs it.

Ridiculous choil

All the comments are spot on. Slicey, Aesthetically pleasing, Fit and finish is great, Quality feel. It's just the choil. Not big enough to use for finger placement, In my opinion a small sharpening choil would have been a far better choice. But its a very good value despite the one drawback.

This blade is a complete steal at this price point. Very smooth, decently sharp, and the style clues are very clean. A total home run. I would want better steel but at this price point I'm not sure that's even possible. The G10 is great, the action fantastic, and the lack of blade markings is a huge plus. Totally satisfied with this purchase. I went ahead and bought 3 of their new read more models, totally impressed with the Civivi offerings. My favorite of the bunch...

My Black Baklash - 3 Weeks In

David R.

My CIVIVI Baklash in Black was flawless out of the box. The knife tore down easily and went back together without a fight. Three weeks in as EDC the Baklash has held up well. I think it's a bit early for me to say much about the 9Cr18MoV blade steel, but so far so good. The only thing I'm on the fence about with this knife are the blue liners. Blue goes together OK with the Black read more scales, but not so much with the Green and Tan versions of this knife. I wanted to buy the Green Baklash, but couldn't bring myself to do it because of the blue liners. That's how I ended up with the Black knife. Sheeesh, I can't find anything else to whine about but the blue color liners - so no stars off! My Conclusion: So-far this is a darn good knife for the money. Let's see if WE/CIVIVI can keep the prices down. Y'all Have Fun - David in Florida.

Great look and feels more like a high end knife than you would think! I love the look of the G-10 with the liners. Overall an amazing knife.

Amazing form and function. Detent is dialed in perfect. Amazing fit in hand. Came with a very sharp factory edge. So thin behind the edge it is just made for slicing. The only reason I dropped it one star is my lock bar is very stiff and a bit tough to disengage the blade.

Wow!!!

I normally don’t write reviews but this knife is a GEM at only 42 bucks. It flys open, drops shut, centered and light as a feather. The blade is a great slicer and pointy as a needle. I own a lot of knives from productions to one off customs and this 42 dollar knife has me writing a review. Hahaha what can I say other than grab one it’s definitely worth the pocket change.

I'm amazed.

When this knife showed up, I wasn't sure what to expect at this price point. I'm thoroughly blown away. I wasn't in love with the vanilla design on the website, or even the reviews on YouTube but I have to say.... They nailed it.

You have to hold one to really appreciate the quality and build on this one. Solid lockup, perfect centering, beautifully sculpted g10, razor sharp, read more and feels like it should be 2-3x the price. Best value I've encountered in the world of folders yet!!

Stop thinking about it and but yourself one!!

Fantastic cutter.

This has all the things you'd expect from a WE made knife, it's the same fit and finish and quality feel as something like the practic. What is a little unusual for WE and most folders this size is how thin behind the edge it is, difficult to measure but it's thinner than two poker cards, it's a fantastic cutting tool, rivaling even a spyderco chaparral or opinel. If you want a read more knife for abuse, this isn't it. If you want an aggressive piercer, cutter and slicer, this is it. The only change I'd make is to tone down the flipper gimping. 9cr18mov is a decent stainless, in line with vg-10 or 14c28n for edge retention and stainless but might be tougher (it's often an outdoors fixed blade steel).

God of all budget knives!

WE manufactured a great budget folder that has totally risen the bar! It is going to very hard for any company to compete at a sub fifty dollar price tag. It’s action is incredible! The detent causes the blade to rocket out like an automatic knife and it also closes very smoothly. Not to mention it came with a high quality fleece lined pouch and a branded cloth to wipe off your read more blade. You are getting EXTREME VALUE.

Only con I have is I wish it was USA made.
