Beautiful Gentleman's Knife
This knife is gorgeous. Definitely a gentleman's knife. Its compact, but has surprising weight. The blade looks really nice is very slicy. Good neutral ergonomics and the milling gives it a great grip. The front flipper works well, but takes some getting used to.
Great Slicer
Have had the Exarch for about a week now...have been carrying it every day. My first Civivi.
Great little knife. Very smooth in operation from the beginning. The blade is excellent - geometry and grind are exactly right to make for a superlative slicer. The blade steel (D2) seems to have been done up properly...no signs of chipping or brittleness.
The handle is nicely…

done. I love the simple, clean design and the G10 texture is nicely grippy. I hate clips, myself, so I removed this one (as with all my knives).
The flipping action is very smooth and the detent is just right. My only complaint (just a small one) is that the shape of the flipper tab could be a bit rounder and oriented such that an index finger could be used for opening. Nevertheless, I found a good way for one-handed opening with my thumb, so no matter.
Finally, I consider this knife a real bargain.
So, overall, I gave it 5 stars, despite the small flipper tab complaint. As I said, great little knife. Get one and see!
First Civivi, First Front Flipper
So recently, I wanted to upgrade my knife game. I’ve had a couple SOGs and Kershaws on the cheaper end of the spectrum. I want to explore better steels and finishes and to really invest in a few nice knives to truly appreciate and enjoy using. Maybe start a collection…
This is my first Civivi, first front flipper, and first Damascus blade. The unboxing experience: Extremely…

Impressive. It’s a really nice and solid knife. Now, I know this isn’t a $400 Japanese Damascus, but the Damascus looks really nice for the price point. The overall quality of the knife is excellent. Tight, sturdy, and high tolerances. I like the scales. It’s CF inlay, and it’s pretty smooth without much grip, but this knife isn’t meant for hard work.
It’s a really sleek design. Looks really clean cut with squared edges when folded. Perfect gentlemen’s folder. Clean, slim, and non-intimidating. The front-flipping action was easy to grasp for my first time. Really nice fidget knife, but it’s really quick and convenient to deploy. A lot of fun too! Others familiar with Civivi may not think it’s a big deal, but the knife comes with a microfiber cloth and soft storage case. Pretty nice extras… and a sticker. The blade is also very sharp from the factory.
Really glad I made this purchase. After researching Civivi before buying, I’m sure this knife will last a lifetime, and I’m impressed by the quality and reviews of their other products.
If you want to start getting into the nicer side of knives or just want a really good value on a great knife, you will not be disappointed with this.
Great deal
My first front flipper, and it hasn't disappointed yet. Good sharpness out of the box, but not great when compared to other civivi knives I've purchased (rustic gent, and elementum button lock). That being said, the fit and finish are on par with knives twice the price. Great little knife for around town, but the blade shape, profile, and handle size don't lend themselves for extreme… read more hard use tasks.
Elegant simplicity....
This showed up today and it is exactly what I expected from Civivi. Fired easily the first time I tried. Very intuitive, great detent. The clip is a little big and you know it is there, but I won’t ding it as it isn’t a heavy use knife. Fidgety as heck. It is really sharp out of the box. If you’re getting it for office carry, it is the upper limit size-wise. I’m not sure… read more I’ll use it for that. I might’ve gone with the McKenna or the Feist, but this thing is cool.
My first Civivi; didn't disappoint
At first I was a little skeptical about Civivi being as good as everyone says it is, but buying this knife changed my opinion, bc it's really quite good. This is both my first Civivi and first front flipper, and both are quite worthy of praise.
I don't know what the problem is with the flipper; I was able to flick it out consistently within about 10 seconds of opening the…

box. Just look up "front flipper Blade HQ" on Youtube and watch a few of the vids and pay attention to how they deploy each knife; you'll find it's different than your usual deployment but much easier than expected.
Flipper works great for me!
This is an awesome little knife, and (for me) the front flipper works like a charm. I can operate it one-handed without an issue, and it snaps out perfectly.
It's slim design fits in any pocket, and it's very fidget-friendly. Awesome!
Beautiful knife with one major flaw!
I absolutely love the look and the feel of this knife - it is beautiful and looks awesome! I've also tried the CRKT CEO and this looks 100 times better!
However, the blade flipper at the end of the blade doesn't function well at all. The flipper is located at the end of the blade side, protruding a little past the knife. This is preferred as to sticking out the side, but…

you cannot reach it while holding the knife properly (like a finger flipper). you have to hold it awkwardly and use your thumb or finger to start opening it. Very clumsy and potentially dangerous. I also had a co-worker test the knife and he said the same exact thing.
Again, I absolutely love the look and feel of this knife, but had to return it due to a complete lack of function on the opener. If this was redesigned, I would purchase again in a heartbeat.
Ball Bearing for the win
I didn't know anything about a front flipper but this thing is really nice. The G10 scales are really solid and the overall fitment and materials of the knife are really nice. I could take or leave the deep carry clip and tip up versus tip down doesn't really make a difference to me. The action is great once you get used to the front flipper.
All Civivi's are just so consistently good!
This is my 3rd Civivi and it has helped me come to the realization that if you love folding knives and are usually buying under the $100 mark, then you should always or often lean towards Civivi. It's really great when a knife exceeds your expectations out of the box. Each of my Civivi's have done that. This knife has a nice smooth action and will open for you every time with a…

little muscle memory. You will probably poke your palm every once in a while but that's ok. It's very fidgety. The finish quality is really great. I think the lock bar disengage (smooth edge with jimping and slight recess in the handle) is the best I've come across... noting there are some bad ones out there.
To give another perspective... I purchased this Exarch alongside a competitors budget thumb stud flipper that has made a little noise this year. Opening them in succession really amplified the difference. I don't want to name or bash the other knife just yet, but just want to put this Civivi up on the pedestal I think it deserves.
Can't give half stars, but 4.5
I mean it is exactly what I was looking for. An attractive slim blade for the office, I tried the CRKT CEO, but it didn't fit my hand well and I did want a slightly thicker blade. The blue scales are eye pleasing, the steel is solid and overall feels well put together. The front flipper takes a little practice getting used to, but once you get the sweet spot down its very smooth.… read more Very pleased and I definitely will be looking into getting another Civivi.
Typical Civivi...
As is becoming usual...I own a few Civivi knives now...fit an finish is about perfect. Centering, lockup, machining, sharpness out of the box are all impeccable. My only minor grips are that the Damascus patterning in some very small areas on my knife are hazy, but this is pretty typical of layered Damascus in this price range. I am also not partial to the slick textured CF overlay,… read more but that is personal preference. The angled G10 provides some grip and is comfortable to hold. The front flipper is smooth and hits 100% with very little practice. I have found no real hotspots though you are aware of the clip in a firm grip. All, in all it is a great knife for a dress carry or where an EDC or tactical might raise eyebrowse. Civivi is almost boring in the fact that you get a great knife, flawless execution and decent materials time after time.
