Microtech has updated and refined the UTX-85 MODel. It features improved Ergonomics, with rounded handle faces, and patches of grooves along the sides to ensure excellent grip. The firing button has been redesigned to increase surface contact for effective engagement, and the glass breaker has a ball-tip set in the trip-angle pattern base to increase its everyday carry manners.Based on the Ultratech platform, the UTX-85 is scaled down to 85% of its length. The UTX-85 is an appealing option for those who prefer a smaller EDC knife and value Microtech's high-performance out-the-front action and exceptional build quality.

My two cents
The hype on these knives is justified in my opinion. To start, the construction and materials are all excellent on this knife. They combine with the smooth functional appearance to give that aah moment when you deploy the blade.very satisfying. Blade deployment and retraction are smooth and crispplenty of power. I have large hands and found the Utx 85 handle just a bit short and narrow.soon to be remedied by the combat troodon on order. Now, if that is too large I might just have to step back to an ultratech. This Utx is a drop point and the black and silver on the blade look phenomenal with the metallic red handle. The design is just well thought out and perfectly executed. Fit and finish are a 10. Everything flows with this knife and that is what you are paying for. Are these knives expensive? Yes. Are they a luxury? Yes. But if you appreciate near-perfect design, form, and function in a production knife you will really appreciate these Microtech OTF blades.
