Paragon PARA-XD
About Paragon PARA-XD
The Paragon PARA-XD is based on the ATKO 10 design. Just push the button and the single action automatic knife fires the blade out-the-front of the handle. Action is fast and lock-up is nice and tight. To retract the blade just press the button in and use the retracing lever to pull the blade back in. The sliding safety lock on the face of the handle ensures the blade stays closed or open if you please. These Asheville Steel Paragon PARA-X Knives are proudly made in the USA. This PARA-XD features a double-edged dagger blade with plain and serrated edges. The blade is black finished S30V stainless steel. This knife features a red hard coat anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle with a sliding safety and tip-down pocket clip.

Great knife after many months
Don't let the bad or ok reviews scare you, this is an EDC carry knife meant for cutting I've had mine for a while now still work great and the simplicity of operation and disassembly to clean is A+, yeah sure the middle paint may rub off after a while from it sliding but come on now I'm a man with a working man's needs of cutting and blade retention and hardness great knife and… read more the actual guy that makes these is a fast responder to any questions.
Something of a Disappointment
I have owned an OTF Paragon before. This one however was something of a disappointment. 1. The handle was bigger than my previous out the front Paragon, making this one feel bulky and less comfortable to handle. 2. The blade was sloppy going out. It was clunky and not smooth as it came out. 3. After firing it only five times, the blade did not come out all the way! I sent it back… read more to Paragon, and they replaced the knife and threw in a free gift. After taxes, this knife was closer to $225. Any knife over $200 should be dependable and work whenever fired. Paragon usually produces some high quality auto knives; so maybe this was an anomaly!
One of My Favorite OTFs, but...
I was super excited to receive this knife when I first ordered it.
First, it's a U.S.A. made OTF.
Second, it's a single-action OTF, which intrigued me because I hadn't used one before.
Third, it was double-edged.
And fourth, it's an OTF!!!
My first firing of the blade was lackluster because my finger was in the path of the charging lever. D'oh!
Once…

I figured out how to stay out of the way of the charging lever, it was FIRE!!!...for the most part. There are occasions in which it seems to fire softly. (More on this in a bit.)
Immediately--especially as someone who likes to fidget--it was evident that the two-handed recharging (the returning of the blade) was going to get old quickly.
I was determined to figure out how to fire and reload the Para-X one-handed, and with a little experimenting, I did. Now it has a fidget factor of its own.
Unfortunately, with the constant opening and closing in a short amount of time, I started to notice rubbing on the blade, so it's not centered. Yikes!!! And being on OTF, it's not like there's a pivot I can adjust and I'm not willing to take it apart, either.
Now I wonder how much this slight rubbing has been affecting the performance of the action all along. Remember the part about firing softly? This may have been the reason.
I'm in the process of reaching out to Asheville Steel about their lifetime warranty (as mentioned on their website) and to see what recourse I have to get this fixed.
At the moment, I've left a voicemail and sent an email over the weekend. I'm looking forward to hearing back. Now it's just a waiting game.
This minor dissatisfaction, however, hasn't dissuaded me from putting one of their gravity knives on layaway.
I'm very fascinated with their product lineup. They seem to have some unique and interesting designs.
Pointy sharp bad-assery!
Pointy sharp bad-assery...need i say more?
Not so hot
The blade came sharp. The blade color is much nicer in person. It is a deep red that looks less flashy than the pictures. Now the bad. The push button is spongy and has to be depressed all the way passed flush to fire the blade. It is practically recessed the the handle and it does not consistently work. The retraction of the blade is smooth sometimes and other times it is not.… read more The handle looks cheap and feels cheap...like flea market knife cheap. For $200 I would look somewhere else.
Good weight, sharp blade!
If you are wanting a symmetrical OTF, this is the one.
Didnt live up to expectations
Ive had trouble with this knife since the day I got it in the mail. Specifically with retracting it. You have to push the opening button just right as you slide it back to get it to lock. Its never failed to lock without a little playing around but thats not acceptable from an EDC. Additionally, I sent it into the manufacturer and they lubricated it and sent it back. They detected…

no issues with its operation.
If I didnt own 2 different OTFs from Microtech that are much more reliable when it comes to opening and retracting I wouldnt know any better.
