I was hesitant because of its large size. I immediately changed my mind once I got it in hand.

I was hesitant because of its large size, at first. But I immediately changed my mind once I got it in hand. It’s arguably one of the most comfortable knives I own, and it gets the job done well.
Don’t let the size scare you away like it did for me for many years. It’s a great tool.

Fantastic Knife

John Mathers

I've been carrying this knife for about 4 weeks now and I'm very impressed. I've used it for breaking down boxes, opening packages and a lot of food prep. It's still razer sharp and all I've had to do was hone it once. I've never had a knife come from the factory as sharp as this knife. The ergonomics are great and it fits my large XL hands well.
I was uncertain when I first read more received the knife because I wasn't familiar the ball lock and I didn't know much about the SPY27 blade steel but now that it's had time to break in it's probably my favorite knife in my EDC rotation.
I would buy this knife again if it was lost or stolen.

Awesome!

It's my first Spyderco and boy am I happy with it, they really hit it out of the park with this one, very smooth action and razor sharp outta the box, I would highly recommend this knife to anyone.

I initially hated the Manix 2 when I first saw it for some reason. After finally coming around to the design and deciding to get one, it’s now my favorite Spyderco. I now have 3 and absolutely love them. From the lock mechanism to the blade shape the Manix 2 is definitely one of Spydercos best.

Great EDC knife

This is the second Manix 2 lightweight that I've owned, and it's one of my favorite models that Spyderco offers. The ergonomics of this knife are outstanding for my short stubby hands. I'm looking forward to trying out the new SPY27 steel and see how well it performs.

Bit of a letdown

Brandon E.

The blade was absolutely breathtaking but the rest of the knife seemed to be thrown together. The blade was off-center between the handles, the pocket clip was cut asymmetrically, and the pieces of FRN didn’t meet cleanly at the spine.

Great knife, don't like the pins

Robert C.

It's a great knife overall. Haven't used it enough to see if the S110V is all that it's cracked up to be, but it's very light and slicey.

I have to remove a star for the pinned construction, though. I didn't know Spyderco was still doing that until I got it, and now I'm kind of wishing I had read the reviews and gotten the G10/S30V version instead.

Great, Big, Folder!

John W.

If you're looking for a big robust folder, this knife is for you. It has a larger profile, but sits in the hand nicely and isn't bad in the pocket either. The quality and feel of this knife is second to none. The S30V steel is razor sharp right out of the box and has great edge retention. The blade profile looks great and I can flip it out just as fast as a spring assist. (extremely read more smooth action) Very well thought out design by the guys in Colorado. Love the G-10 scales as well. Spyderco > Other knives.

Great service great knife

I received my knife so quickly I couldn’t believe it. I’m not thrilled with a knife as I am with the service. There’s not a winner S1 10 we could have a mirror edge or core 600 edge I would recommend a course 600 very good knife profile to bleed at 17° per side. PS thank you Mary for your help!

very light in weight due tot the absence of liners, ideal for EDC. Lock up on the blade is super tight.

Big sucker

Christopher M.

Love it. It's pretty big but that's part of it's charm. Not only do I get a full grip, there is still room on both ends of the grip. No complaints or issues. Everything is solid and done well. I own the Smaller manix 2 in s110v and I think that is my favorite spyderco right now but this is awesome too. Just depends what size you want.

Super steel and ergonomics

Gregory N.

This Manix 2 will always be one of my favorite EDCs, and it starts with the ergonomics of the handle which are perfect for larger hands.

The caged ball lock is easy to disengage one handed, with enough detent to prevent the knife accidentally opening.

The S110V blade is one of the toughest rated steel. I've yet to wear down the factory grind lines after a year of read more sharpening.

Finally, the wire clip is minimalist and awesome.

Perfect EDC

I was on the fence a long time about this knife, wondering if I could really get 110V sharp. After dulling the blade from hard use I put it on the Sharpmaker with the diamond stones at 15 dps. Then went to the brown stones and that was it. Took 20-25 minutes maybe. Razor sharp again with real bite. I later experimented with going to fine, extra fine and stropping, but I think the read more best edge for use is the medium grit brown stones. Great knife, perfect ergos, a little wide in the pocket but weighs nothing and has full-size capability.

Great except for 2 (big) things

Patrick B.

Overall, this knife is an incredible value. Some of the best ergonomics around, a top tier super steel and for $130. Now for that I would give it 5 stars. However, 2 big issues I have are the ball bearing lock spring is too strong for the surface area you can actually get on the tabs, making it tough to disengage the lock. I’m used to the easier omega spring of the Benchmades. read more Secondly, and this is a HUGE issue, this knife can not be disassembled. It uses pins rather than screws for its construction, so it can not be taken apart and I can not put those beautiful flytanium scales that I intended to, and am now glad I decided to forego purchasing them in the same order. I think it’s ridiculous that a folding knife in this day and age is using pins rather than screws. It just makes maintenance that much more difficult, and reduces the customizability I believed I was getting when purchasing this knife

A hawk in duck's feathers

Thomas H.

Fantastic value for this quality of knife for under $130. Cruisble's S110V steel is brutally sharp and hard. I went with the FRN over G10 to save some cash and don't regret it. It boggles the mind that a knife this large weighs so little. Ergonomics are fantastic. The action is a little stiff, but I wouldn't say it is totally broken in yet. Some people might say the Manix2 is very read more ugly and they would be right. But I care little for form over function.

My favorite knife!

Bought this a while ago and have been carrying it around a lot. Great lightweight knife with a great locking mechanism. Good for everyday tasks and holds its edge great! 100% would recommend!

"XL" says it all.

Parker Jones

If you're looking for a folder that functions close to a fixed blade and matches one in size, then this might be just the ticket. It's a bit larger than expected, even after watching/reading reviews and reading the specifications--not that that's a bad thing. It fills a roll in my carry rotation that was void, so I can carry a full-size knife in situations where a fixed blade might read more either be too uncomfortable or unwelcomed. It nearly takes up a whole pocket, at least in the way I carry it. But what really piqued my interest was the very functional leaf shaped blade, one of my favorite blade shapes.

It does take a few days to a week to break in, so just be prepared for the lock to be really stiff at first. Now that it's broken in, I'm finding myself unable to set it down.

There's no better large folder!

I carried the Manix 2 for a long time, and thought it was perfect. I eventually picked up the Manix 2 XL and I've gotta say, for having an almost 4 inch blade this thing cuts like a beast and carries in the pocket perfectly.

Don't sleep on this knife.

This knife is amazing! A friend got it for my birthday, and now it is my favorite knife! It is surprisingly light. It's so light that the first time I carried it, I forgot it was there. It can hold an edge exceptionally well, and it can be sharpened to an outstanding point/edge. Spyderco outdid themselves again!

I've owned it for nearly 2 years
And cannot take it out of my pocket. It has held up to every task I've thrown at it, I'm pretty sure I even accidentally ran it over with my car too its just a beast.

Excellent EDC

This blade will cut!!! The s110v holds a wicked edge for slicing. I am a hardwood floor installer and I abuse my knives. This one holds up to almost any task. The only knock I have is the s110v is too brittle when cutting mixed medium that may contain metal. (Unknown staple in a box) the edge will chip. For every other task it holds its edge an extremely long time. It's so light read more you wont even know it's in your pocket!

Get one. Period.

Josh D.

This knife is amazing. Yes it is slightly big for an office setting, however the ergos are amazing. I find myself choking up on this guy for most of my cutting tasks. I wear XL gloves for a size comparison. Using this same knife now for 16 months, I have put it through anything that I need it to. I have used the knife for food prep, cutting boxes, and about anything else you would read more do on a daily basis. I do not use the tool as a pry bar.

The BD1 steel choice is pretty decent as an everyday blade choice. I have not seen any rust or discoloring on the blade yet. Cutting citrus fruit has not been an issue.

The Manix 2 LW is my first Spyderco and has caused me to look at other models for a slightly smaller package. The Manix 2 LW and Victorinox Cadet are on my person every single day for the time being...

Big folder

love mine had it for years now. it has been put trought hell, im a mecanic/welder and iv carryed it a lot. cuting box, zip tag, skined wire, etc. the only reason iv put 4 star is that it has verry soft screw and with all that use i need to take it apart and screw have strip.

Full Sized Hard Use Folder

Austin F.

The fit and finish are excellent as are the ergonomics. The traction package is beefed up with the jimping over the Manix 2 and the hand lock in naturally to the handle. The 50/50 finger choil is great for finer work. The knife is very wide in the pocket and a little big or EDC front pocket carry. There is a lot of knife that is visible out of the pocket due to the placement of read more the lanyard hole above the pocket clip. This knife is also heavy, sitting at 1.3 ounces per inch of cutting blade...it isn't stealthy it is a heavy duty working knife.

My Favorite Knife

Back off the pivot screws an 8th of a turn and this turns into the smoothest non-bearing knife out there. One hand use all day. I use it for heavy camping tasks and it wipes clean to look brand new. The steel is perfect and the grip is perfect for big hands. Love it.
P.S. Gimme that axe, I need it..
Thanks

Feels like a lego

Austin F.

Fantastic ergonomics but really a bit too wide in the pocket for me. It is a great knife, great steel choice, great grind. BUT what makes it a 4 star knife instead of a 5 star knife is the FRN they used, It feels very lego like instead of the Japanese made spyderco's which feel much closer in texture to a Glock handgun type polymer. I would recommend to ANYONE who wants a manix read more 2 lightweight or otherwise to go to a store and ask to see one and see if they will let you put it in your pocket just to see if you can live with that much knife in your pocket.

I love the knife! It was always super sharp and comfortable just the plastic they use on the lightweight knives feel a little flimsy and the clip bends way to easy if caught on anything because it's a wire pocket clip but I love everything else about it

I really really really reaaaally love this knife. I have like 20 spyderco knives almost all of them are manix. From the LW version to the XL but i find myself edc-ing this model more often than all the rest... its amazing, weights close tonothing holds an edge pretty well wire clip... my favorite

My first spyderco

Houston B.

I decided to buy this knife over other spyderco models. I do a lot of hiking, camping, and running around town and this knife is a jack of all trades. The ball bearing lock has a stronger spring than a benchmade axis lock but with some practice I've come to really enjoy it. Loving the pocket clip! Spyderco makes sturdy hardworking products and the Manix 2 rocks. Probably the sharpest read more knife I own. No problems with the BD1 steel. It's a larger knife so I mostly carry it on weekends.

The Manix 2 is one of my favorite folding knives, in a lot of ways it is the best option for all practical uses. The lightweight version unfortunately has a couple things that hold it back.

First off, the Manix 2's ergonomics are second to none. There is something about this knife design that makes it super comfortable and secure in a wide range of hand sizes.
It also read more has a wonderful blade shape for the super high performance slicer it is.
The lock is also about as strong as they come and is completely ambidextrous for lefties.

It is not without a couple small faults though. I'm not a fan of the pinned construction. For those who will never take apart their knives, this is not a concern. For those of us who want the ability to do a complete maintenance on it, the G10 version is a better option.
Lastly, the locking mechanism is on the stiff side. This isn't really a problem for me but people with smaller or weaker hands may find it difficult to disengage.

Perfect companion.

This is my go to knife. Light, comfortable, and sharp as hell. Very little sharpening needed with moderate use. Great toothy edge will cut almost everything. Fits great in pocket and even better in hand. I will never go anywhere without this knife.

I've had this knife for about 2 years now and it's served well so far as a large EDC. The handle shape fits my hand well, although the serations on the inside of the metal can be uncomfortable after prolonged use. The blade shape is good for any task and the blade steel holds up well with an edge geometry that makes it easy to sharpen. Would definitely recommend this knife!

Great lock and I really like the design. This was my first Manix 2. Grippy G10, nice leaf shaped blade, good steel but I just cannot get used to that jimping on the handle. Too rough for me without the gloves. Now I own a lightweight model FRCP and it suites my needs.

Almost perfect...

Paul W.

Did this Manix 2 arrive in perfect condition, sharp enough to slice paper, and in a timely manner? Yes!

My only complaint, if you want to call it that, is the finish on the handle and blade. The handle needs a fine grit sand paper applied to the edges of the handle, just to smooth it out and have it be comfortable for daily carry in my waistband. I used the same sandpaper read more to smooth the edge out on the spydie hole. NOW, it is perfect for me!

This is an awesome blade steel! Very sharp from the factory, made sharper by a few passes on my leather strope.

Thank you Blade HQ for the excellent service!

First Spyderco

Being a knife enthusiast/collector I had to have a Spyderco in the collection. Although the paramilitary was constantly listed as THE one to get this, this knife stood out as slightly different. It is definitely a huge knife given the long and wide blade. There's jimping all along the edges of the scales for superb grip. Although this knife isn't used regularly, it definitely has read more a solid lock-up and it incredibly smooth to open.

I first purchased Spiderco's Dragonfly2 fully serrated on sale for $39 and some change as a trial run. I did personalize it and had it engraved to add a personal touch. I receive my shipment a little over a week not bad considering I had it engraved. When I finally received the product and unboxed it I would have to say quality was up to par!!! They did a great job engraving my read more personal touch on the blade as well!! I was so happy with DLT that within a week I then purchased Spiderco's Manix 2. Anyone looking for a EDC knife this would have to be in your top three overall choices, I no longer carry my SOG nor my Kershaw knife. The ball bearing locking & The G 10 handles make this knife my top choice EDC!!!

Design Could Be Touched Up

Giovanni O.

There's some great to this knife and there's a lot of bad with this knife.

Good:
Large profile
Better blade shape than the PM2
Strong and Durable locking mechanism
It's smooth

Bad:
- Poor Ergos (Just make it a smooth gentle recurve not mounds and choils limiting the user)
- The design of the lock system, small thing PB washers, and a small pviot read more makes the knife have blade play unless you tighten it to the point where it becomes a fixed blade
- Too much jimping, along with too much jimping
- Ball Bearing Cage is very sharp and the Spring is too strong
- Knife just feels very rough
- Spydie Hole (Just a circle in a blade) is also quite sharp
- Pocket clip should be in the same spot as the smaller Manix models. (The pocket clip needs to be next to the lanyard hole.)

Great knife apart from blade play.

Darren R.

I really like almost everything about this knife; the ergonomics, appearance, weight, blade shape, and steel choice (s30v) are great. My only complaint, and the reason it lost a star from me, lies in the fact it came with noticeable side to side blade play that, because of the type of pivot screw assembly used by Spyderco, cannot be tightened up (despite the fact a torx bit will read more fit the pivot). While I plan to send the knife in for repair, I really wish Spyderco would use pivot screws that can be adjusted to the customer's preference.

Edit: After selling mine and missing it a lot, I picked up another and it is rock solid with no blade play and still very smooth action. Definitely a 5 star knife now.

I live the manix xL. It is big it is beefy and the ergot are great. Blade was shaving sharp out of the box. Even though it is a large knife I would gladly edc it except opening it I. The Best Pocket Folder

Crazy lightweight for a folder with a 3.37" blade. Goes into your pocket after cutting an orange or peeling an apple without rusting. Stays sharp with minimal upkeep. Proper size for a folder that can easily do everything you'd want it to but stays sharp and does not rust even when abused. Saves considerable money by putting the plug in my knife addiction - well, slows it down anyway.

The knife is flawless!!!

My favorite part about this knife is that it weighs about what a mini griptilian weighs but the manix is a lot bigger, has better steel and after all of that it costs just slightly more than a mini griptilian!!!

If you are still reading this stop and just buy the dang thing you won't be disappointed!!!!!

I had the regular Manix 2 for along time and it shows. So I ordered the Manix XL as an upgrade. Fast shipping I will definitely order again.

It's very lightweight for its size. Even so it still feels really well balanced. And once you break in the spring on the locking mech it's a fairly quick release and and close there for you in a jiffy kinda knife. Feels weightless in the pocket. Still has factory edge after a month of regular use. Haven't had to sharpen it yet. Also getting the new blue g10 version pretty stoked read more about that. Either way a highly recommended knife.

Great knife & service

Just received the knife in the mail today and the free shipping took 4 business days to arrive at my door. Good job to Spyderco on sharpening to hair shaving sharp out of the box. Only disappointment is the pinned together construction doesn't allow disassemble for cleaning but that is clearly visible in the pictures BladeHQ has posted. Excited to try out the S110V steel.

Blade was razor sharp out of the box and the scales were perfect. Would highly recommend this knife to anyone looking for a larger EDC to fit larger hands.

Excellent knife.

I thought my Spiderco Military couldn't be beat, I was wrong. The Manix 2xl is truly an outstanding knife. Razor sharp out of the box, deploys with ease and locks up tight. It is the perfect EDC blade. Once again Blade HQ delivers on price and customer service.

ROUGH LOCK MECHANISM

The blade is made well and the knife as a whole is quality built, however the lock is difficult and has a rough feel to it. I have a very difficult time releasing the lock one handed an I am pretty strong. As a result I will not be carrying this knife! Lately BHQ has had problems with timely delivery.

Good value knife. Mine didn't come perfect but 95 percent of knives don't. Centering was a little off and the grind was uneven. I also loosened the pivot to make one hand opening easy. I like the knife so much I will be buying more from the Manix line. Soon I'm giving this knife 5 stars because I think it is a excellent value.

Finnnnn awesome fully ambidextrous folder open and close one handed operation. Big knife could skin a deer no problem.

Performance and Reliability

To start, it's not as big or bulky as some reviewers make it sound—sure, it's a full-sized folder with a large blade and an abundant handle, but Spyderco made every effort to ensure the knife is slim and low-profile. It carries very comfortably on the body and disappears on your hip, especially when clipped on a belt or inside waist band. For its size, the concealed carry factor read more is 9/10 thanks to slim build.

It carries light thanks to milled-out liners, but is still heavy enough to assist with cutting, especially tough/thick materials like ropes, drywall, heavy-duty cardboard, wood, etc. Slim blade makes it an amazing cutting performer, yet it's strong and durable due to blade width. The tip is much stronger than it looks, in part thanks to S30V—you never have to fear for it breaking, as long as you don't abuse it.

The handle is one of the most comfortable and ergonomic I've ever seen—it fuses with the hand and "wraps" around it, from my experience far beyond the ergos of PM/Millie. Variety of grips is unmatched thanks to handle shape: You can grab with the curled handle butt between the little and ring finger for tasks like de-limbing smaller branches or chopping foliage. You can also come out with your thumb far onto the blade spine with solid purchase of your index on the 50/50 choil for very controlled precision work with the tip. It's also very comfortable and secure in reverse grip. Extra handle length is always there and it lends to added control in any grip.

The metal spacer housing the ball bearing lock closes a section of the handle adjacent to the blade, providing ample support for the thumb, while the open construction through the rest of the handle makes washing and cleaning (and drying) the knife a breeze. It goes from dirty and loaded with drywall/soil to perfectly clean and looking new out-the-box in less than two minutes.

The lock itself can be a bit stiff and takes some time to get used to and break in, but it's far from an issue. Lock strength is some of the best, lending to hard use with peace of mind, knowing it will never disengage on its own like a liner could while you're putting the knife through paces.

The fit, finish and tolerances are extremely precise and symmetrical, while the overall build is very solid and tight, as usually delivered by Spyderco. As noted by another reviewer, the slim profile and clean design give the knife a sleek and classy look. This is hands-down one of Spyderco's very best (and often underrated) designs, and where it truly shines is performance and reliability in hard use.

The only con of this knife is lack of regular upgraded variants (most notably in S110V which this outstanding platform has proven for years it fully deserves) and quality sprint runs, such as S90V, REX 45 and M390 (or DLC-coated 4V with Ranger Green scales, but I digress).

Long story short, this is one of the best performing full-size knives that can be had for any price, especially as reasonable as $160. Do yourself a favor and get two like I did, then wait for sprint runs with your index on a trigger like I do.

This knife feels great in the hand, lefty friendly, great steel, and a good deal. The manix 2 is super fun to play with. Because of the full flat ground it slices great. Also the ergos are amazing.
