Great EDC knife.. Smooth and slick very sharp. Fun to fiddle with. Great for all the mundane tasks you need a sharp edge for and then some.

Big upgrade from Para 3 LW (IMO)

I’m a big fan of the Sage 5 lightweight. It’s not as light as the Para 3 lw but the ergos are a lot better and the blade is staying centered because of the pivot bushing, which also makes the action awesome. I’m much more of a fan of the leaf shaped blade as well. The main thing I like is the texture of the handles. It feels like the Frn Chaparral, very grippy! A lot better read more than the Para 3 lw. It’s also a thinner knife and not as tall in the pocket. I know that the price is higher but with my points from DLT I payed a little over $100. To me it is worth it. Action was perfect right out of the box and blade was scary sharp. Super fast shipping as well!!

The service I received from DLT Trading was excellent. Great price, fast order processing and super fast shipping.

The Spyderco Sage 5 is an excellent, quality-built knife. Just the right size for me. The handle length (just over 4") fits my hand perfectly. There is even more room available if I use the forward finger choil. The weight is also perfect at just over read more 3.2 oz. The knife fits in my pocket nicely - sometimes I forget it is even there. I love the compression lock. Don't confuse this with a liner lock - it is much more than that. Being located on top of the knife handle it keeps my fingers clear from the closing blade. While quite happy with the S30V steel, I think Spyderco should upgrade to at least S35VN or provide an option for one of the more modern steels out there today. The knife flicks open effortlessly - without ball bearings. I did find there is a break-in period for that smooth operation. I did apply some St. Claire 10 weight Nano Oil to speed up the process.

My only complaint deals with the sharpness of the Spydie Hole. Not the blade edge, but the edge of the opening hole. This things is sharp. I've heard this is an issue with the Taiwan produced Spyderco knives. I ended up wrapping some 220 grit sandpaper around a large Sharpie marker and "sanding" the edges of the hole on both sides. While probably not the most professional way of doing it - it worked.

All in all if you are in the market for a great EDC knife, you can't go wrong with the Spyderco Sage 5.

I also own a PM2

I also own a PM2 and a Manix 2, The sage 5 is my favorite EDC, significantly lighter than my Manix 2, And the blade length is ideal for EDC activities. If you're looking for a "tactical knife" the other two would be a better option, but just buy a little bit.

Spiderco Sage 5 - Nicely done.

You can read the specs for yourself. The fact that this version has the compression lock makes it more attractive to me. I am not a big fan of back locks or liner locks, in general. The fit and finish is terrific. Very light weight. The hybrid G10/carbon fiber scales look very nice and feel great - not too grippy so it tears clothing, but definitely non-slip in the hand. I have read more many knives, and this is one of my top two EDC blades. Get one and use it. This is no drawer queen.
