About Spyderco Stretch 2 Lightweight Lockback Knife Blue FRN (3.4" Satin)

This Stretch 2 Lightweight folder revives the original design, with a longer handle and refinded Ergonomics. It features blue FRN scales over a stainless steel frame with a Bohler K390 steel blade. The new Stretch 2 delivers a lightweight hunting folder, with full skeletonized stainless steel liners, a stainless steel back spacer, textured FRN scales, and a tube lanyard hole. It has a Bohler K390 steel blade, a stout back lock mechanism with a Boye Dent, and a versatile four-position hourglass clip. The Spyderco Stretch started as a pet-project lockback knife design. Spyderco’s owner and chief designer Sal Glesser made it for his personal use, incorporating features he wanted. He wanted high performance blade steel with edge retention super-powers for outdoor cutting: things like wood, rope and anything encountered in the wild. It had to work equally well indoors on cardboard, mail and fingernails. He sized it so it wouldn’t scare non–knife people and made it look slick on the off chance he’d someday have to wear a suit.

The average of a few different Goldilocks knives

Endela with a choil? Backlock/lightweight PM2? Whatever it is, it’s a design masterpiece. It’s the kind of knife that would make most people never buy another one. Ergonomics are perfect for XL hands, with or without use of the choice. K390 is the perfect steel for such a workhorse of a knife, it is a fantastic value for a steel you’ll be sharpening so rarely. Even when I read more did sharpen it, I was surprised by the relative ease freehand on diamond stones. I haven’t babied it in terms of corrosion resistance, I’ve used it on plenty of wet wood and done nothing more than wipe it dry. My only complaint is the sharp finish on the FRN and Spydieholes of the Seki City models, but it’s an easy fix.
