Originally the Yojimbo2 had tight action out of the box and I was worried. It was my 1st Spyderco and I thought I was missing out of the legendary fight factor experience. Today, I love this knife as it just needed some time to “break in”. Thumb flick, middle finger flick, holding compression lock flick - no problem. Oh and yes smooth, drop shuts and just keeps getting better. read more Don’t adjust your new Spyderco, give it some time and you won’t be sorry. Wicked cool looking and feels so good in the hand. I love the top of the blade to place your thumb - ergonomically heaven. I am a fan gang!

Wicked Blade

This was one of my first Spyderco's, and man, what an introduction! Love the Spydie hole, many different ways to deploy the knife. I would be careful of the tip, I could see it breaking off pretty easily, thankfully my usage has been light, I was mainly carrying it for defensive purposes, but it has handled light EDC tasks with ease, it came very sharp and the flat wharncliffe edge read more is great for cutting. Overall a great knife. I put some Flytanium Titanium scales on mine, it turned it into a beast of a knife, but be careful if you do the same, they use Red Loctite on the screws. That, and it voids your warranty if you take it apart. Great alternative to the Paramilitary 2, which is quite similar. Great knife!

It can do prep work. and it looks mighty cool doing it. Of course, it's pretty excellent at most other tasks too. Just be mindful of the tip, it's a pointy-pointy and does not afraid of anything, especially your fingers.

Got this as a birthday gift from my son and absolutely love it. It's taken the place of my Benchmade 580S Barrage as my favorite EDC.

Well thought out knife

The clip on every knife ought to be on the blade point side for rapid deployment like the Yo is... incredible quality.. I used to be a benchmark fan, but now Spyderco is the bees knees..... the don’t destroy guns for gun grabbers....

Love it

Awesome knife. Cool story behind the design of it. You can find it on YouTube. I love this blade style.

Razor sharp with a needle point

knife came razor sharp, great build quality, grippy g10, most likely the pointiest knife in the market and also my favourite in my collection. the only con would be that the blade gets pretty thin near the tip so you have to keep that in mind but other than that its a great knife that I would recommend to anyone looking for a great quality knife they can count on for always being read more sharp and fun to use.

Beware of the tip

This knife has the best ergonomics you could ask for. It comes screaming sharp out the the box. And be warned, you do not want the tip to touch anything you don’t intend to puncture lol. This is basically a beefed us Xacto knife. Definitely part of my EDC rotation from now on.

I’ve had the lower end spyderco for a while now but for whatever reason never bought any of the higher end ones. Well this was my first buy for a higher priced spyderco and I’m very pleased with how this knife performs. It’s a good EDC blade despite its intended use as a self defense blade.

My new favorite Spyderco

I was on the fence about buying this because the blade doesn't have the aesthetic of other Spyderco knives, but am absolutely glad I got it. The flat blade makes it easy to sharpen to wicked levels, and it has amazing cutting leverage. It's not my EDC (since I generally don't need something this formidable), but it's a very close runner up. Definitely a great knife at this price-point.

If your life is on the line...

If your life is on the line and your are backed into a corner you would be happy to have this. Plus it is a solid edc if you are careful about the very narrow tip. The small tip jumps into anything you put it through so the trade off is worth it.

Utilitarian, ergonomic, and fun

Gideon S.

What initially drew me to this knife was the unique design and pedigree.

Listening to Michael Janich's reasoning behind each design choice made me realize this was an exceptionally well-thought out tool.

Despite its intended use, I could clearly recognize the utilitarian value of this knife, and it has certainly lived up to my expectation - and then some - in day to read more day use. It's great for opening packages or boxes, zips through plastic or cardboard, and in general performs exceptionally as an EDC.

The ergonomics are very comfortable and the action is perfect. The compression lock is very safe and practical and makes for reliable - and fun - one-handed use. The stock is thick, giving the blade enough mass to easily fall shut. However, it is still very thin behind the edge due to the aggressive hollow grind, making it an exceptional cutter!

While it is somewhat wide in the pocket, this is not my complaint with the knife. That would be the ridiculous amount of handle that sticks out with the stock clip. Absurd! No reason for it.

MJ said he initially wanted that for "non-lethals", but he later saw less value in this idea. I'll go further and say that if you draw your knife in self-defense, the idea of blunt strike "non-lethals" is ridiculous. If you are using your knife, it will be to cut.

Furthermore, in my large hands, the handle hardly sticks out at all, so using it that way, inadvisable as it may be, isn't even an option! All it meant for me was that a quarter of the handle would be sticking out of my pocket. Not exactly subtle. I got a Lynch Northwest deep carry clip that has worked beautifully.

I resent the fact that the knife came with such a crappy clip, forcing me to buy a third-party one, but I love the knife as a whole so much I have a hard time harboring any real negative feelings. It's kicking everything else out of my pocket, and I can highly recommend it for EDC or self-defense.

My favorite knife of all time

The most comfortable knife in hand. The methodology behind this knife really does show with its ergonomics and blade shape. A lot of thought went into the design and it just flat out works.

Yojimbo 2

I’ve had this knife for around a year, carried on and off. Love, love the handle and how utilitarian the blade shape is though it’s considered tactical. No issues with chipping but I’m not rough on knives.
The only nitpick I have is that the lock stick never completely went away though it’s not bad and doesn’t really create an issue.

Great blade

I got this knife from Spyderco back in 2012 in Golden CO, This knife is so sharp I was cutting paracord and it cut the paracord and the meat of my hand at the same time didn't even feel it at first. then the blood come running all very everything. I would get this knife again and give it as a gift. Cant go wrong with this or any other Spyderco.

Surprisingly great for edc.

I originally picked up my Yo2 because it was different, and because it bears my favorite lock type. I thought it would make a cool conversation piece, and that I’d carry it every now and then to change it up. Turns out it makes it into my pocket several times a week often beating out much more popular and much more expansive options. The ergos are awesome for my hands, the compression read more lock operates like a dream, it carries very well thanks to the tapered handle shape, and I’ve found the blade shape to be incredibly useful for edc tasks. If you want to look cool on Instagram while carrying a knife that is actually easy to love in real life, I recommend the Yojimbo2.

Top 3 all time favorite!

Great feeling knife, with excellent ergonomics and and perhaps my favorite action. Easy to maintain and easy to get razor sharp with only a sharpmaker.

Great EDC

Have had one for well over two years and carry it occasionally, however when I'm at home and need to cut through a bunch of card board, this is the knife I tend to grab. It's very thin behind the edge and cuts extremely well and the blade shape makes it very effective at general utility tasks (cardboard, packaging, etc). Tip of the blade did break on mine (like half a millimeter) read more when I dropped it once, so be mindful of the fragile tip. Compression lock is solid and very easy to use. Blade swings freely when the lock is compressed making it very easy to one hand close. Over all it's a great knife.

Another great Spyderco collaboration

My longest carried knife and my most useful knife. Opening boxes, paint/ sticker scraper, razor blade, food prep, self defense, etc. You name it, it can most likely do it.

Favorite EDC knife

I have this Yojimbo 2 for about 6 months now and use it for just about everything. Cutting fruit and smoked ring meats just about everyday at work, also used for many misc tasks, as I work as a maintenance electrician. The edge has stayed. I haven't had to sharpen yet. Plus the looks I get when people see it or ask to borrow a knife, is probably the best part of owning this knife.

Solid EDC

Clean lines, razor sharp, very grippy; lots of good things here! The handle profile causes it to ride high in your pocket, not an issue for most days, but can’t carry this one in the office without a deep carry clip! Overall a fantastic blade that’s fun and handy to carry.

I absolutely love this knife. I lost it the day my mom passed and with everything that had happened I didn’t know I had lost it until days later. It meant a lot to me because she was the one that had bought it for me for my birthday. Love your company and thanks for being so awesome.

I'm a huge Spydie fan and the "Yoji 2" was a dream knife. When National Knife Day rolled around, I pulled the trigger. It comes out of the box with a wicked edge and point. The scales and action are perfectly manufactured and perform very well. If you're looking for an amazing self-defense EDC blade, look no further!

Love the compression lock and the look and function from the wharncliff blade. The ergos on this knife are perfect, oh and don’t forget it’s razor sharp. Get one you won’t be disappointed.

EDC and/or Defense

I own several different Yojimbos and daily carry one on and off duty. It is a great blade and handle design that was designed for self defense, but indirectly makes an amazing EDC knife. Only caution would be the fine tip. This knife is made for slashing and/or cutting, not stabbing.

Still my favorite...

I bought this as my first Spyderco after watching a few Janich videos and it's still my favorite. It feels like it's molded to the hand. Can't recommend it enough. The only knife I carry as much is my Para2.

Dope blade

Jorge R.

It's smaller in person but still feels great in hand. The blade tip is super tapered and a lot thinner compared to the spine of the blade. Functions awesome opening and closing with the compression lock. Not really an edc style knife but the Wharncliffe blade is dope, very versatile. Overall great knife, it was a nice addition to the collection.

One of the Best Defense Knives

Jacob W.

For a compact folding defensive knife that can also fulfill pretty much every edc purpose, the yojimbo is fantastic. It has a very smooth pivot which makes for snappy flicks on the opening, and once the compression lock is broken in it flicks closed easily. The lock up from the compression lock is very sturdy. My knife has absolutely no blade play. The wharncliffe blade gives it read more a good presence in the cut and presents a fine point for the thrust, however the tip of the knife is prone to chipping because of how fine it is. The best part of this knife is how well designed the handle is. Whatever grip you use for a knife, the yojimbo's handle shape will accommodate it.

Best EDC knife by Spyderco

Alright guys and gals...let's be perfectly honest with each other here. If you're going to cut something, for 90+% of us, it's going to be cardboard or paper. This is essentially a box cutter on steroids. It has the perfect blade style, and comes out of the box SHARP. I know of no other casual work knife that can compete with this bad boy. I know it was designed as a self-defense read more knife, but this really stands above all other knives when it comes to cutting paper based targets.

I am a knife nut as many have called me. I bought this knife and fell in love with it.I don't personally own a lot of high end knives but have used some. This knife has been in my EDC for some time now and it has worked great so far. It has a great blade steel (s30v) and just feels great in the hand with the g10 handle scales. Overall with all of the use and testing I have put this read more through it has been AMAZING!!

Ergo, ergo, ergo. The egos on this are phenomenal. It took a lot to get this out of my pocket everyday and still wants to crawl in there every once in a while. I would suggest doing some filing in some of the spots to soften up the edges of the g10 and I modded with a forward finger choil but Its a great knife regardless. Lil scared of breaking the tip but I have edc'd this extensively read more with no bad results. Wish the s90v version would make a return.

All Around Good Knife!

Used as a self-defense weapon or for small tasks/chores are best suited for this knife.
I personally have carried this knife for probably about a year as a simple EDC - It is a bit wide in the pocket but for it’s reliability as a self-defense tool and also it’s durability, It’s an awesome knife. I still carry this knife on occasions depending on the events/tasks for the read more day.

Good design, good steel, very sharp out of the box with an always slick deployment with the Spidey hole.

Compression lock, great. Wharncliff blade shape, great. Thin enough in the pocket to not be a nuisance. Fit and finish on my item was what you'd expect form Golden, CO. I'm very satisfied.

I'm not a huge self defense kind of guy so I've been using it as a regular EDC and I love the thing. Razer sharp, sits in your pocket well, opens and closes like a dream, and just looks awesome. My new favorite knife!

Self Defense Tool

Matthew R.

If you carry a knife for self defense, (IMHO) there is none better than the Yojimbo 2. Purpose designed and built, I carry one everyday. This knife is best used with a grip where the thumb is placed on the spine of the blade. There is also a martial art (MBC) that goes along with the knife from the knives designer Michael Janich. It's worth checking out.

Not your average EDC

Kory S.

Very nice build quality - aggressive but not coarse G10, open flow construction, liners are nested but substantial. I enjoy the thick blade stock paired with the hollow grind. Beware of drops; blade's point is needle thin. Compression lock accomodates all grips and feels very secure. Satin polished blade, clip, screws, liners, and standoffs are very handsome. All in all, a very read more cohesive knife design with a high degree of literal and figurative polish, made in America by Americans.

Good Knife

i recently bought this knife, i received it fast from Blade HQ the only thing i did not like about the knife was that it did not come very sharp...it was kind of dull? however i do like the knife for its design and how sturdy it is. I was just a little disappointed that it wasn't razor sharp out the box or anything but i guess its fine but other then that the knife a great, the read more lock up is nice and smooth and doesn't take to much effort to close it one handed. overall great knife besides it being dull but i might just had gotten a bad apple but don't let that detour you from Spyderco they make great quality knives.

Very grippy G10.

Response to Joshua's review

Alex b.

This is really just a response to the other review of this knife. The reviewer states that the knife would not be good in a survival situation. The Yojimbo was designed specifically to be a fighting weapon, it's needle tip and razor-thin edge are built for slashing or penetrating an opponent, not for survival purposes. The description clearly states this. For future buyers, know read more that this is not a heavy-use knife, it is a knife with a specific purpose and that is to be a defensive weapon, ready only when you need it.
