Mixed Feelings

I come from a country where slipjoints are widely used due to knife laws. I therefore have one or two others in my possession for comparison with the Proper. The design is well done. Visually and material-wise, it offers a good mix of traditional and modern elements. Functionally, however, the Proper is not in the same league as knives like the Spyderco UKPK or the TRM Viator. My read more one is harder to open than close, if you push the blade down about 5 degrees when open it doesn't spring back to the fully open position, in the half stop position the blade wobbles and the grind is pretty rough.

Didn't See This Coming!

I have a decent collection of manual, assisted, and automatic knives. And they were all bought after way too much research. I saw this on a reddit post and was paying for it here on BHQ five minutes later. I had zero plans of ever actually carrying this over my fancier ones. Got it because it reminded me of all the blades I grew up with courtesy of my grandpa. And as a Benchmade read more guy, I knew if nothing else it would be a quality reminder. But it has blown me away how much I have enjoyed, carried and used it! Obviously it isn't burley enough to replace the heavier edc tasks, so don't be unrealistic with your knife! But damn, for a nice little slip joint this thing is a joy! Something so relaxing and rewarding returning to simpler things! But the kicker is this return comes with modern high end steel and quality micarta handles. This things feels fantastic opening and closing, feels great in the hand with a three finger grip, and s30v is more than enough for anything you should be asking of this knife. Woke up the morning after this ordering full of regret; that regret vanished the moment my package came and I couldn't be happier!

Slices limes like a champ!

Slices limes like a champ! I originally bought this as an auxiliary knife, however i lost my primary 550-1 Griptillian last week. No longer do I need to use a neglected fillet knife to cut my limes. This knife has definitely pleased the tequila gods!

Great Traditional Knife!

I have one other slip joint in my collection so far. the Liong Mah Traveler coming in at more than twice the price of this knife. This quickly became my new favorite. It is thinner than the traveler by nearly half with approximately the same length of blade which makes it a much nicer in pocket carry (the traveler does come with pocket clip that I removed wanting an in pocket carry). read more The micarta handle material feels comfortable and gives good purchase on the knife. Its is a three finger grip in my large hands, I feel like most likely in most hand sizes. The handle does have a curve that rests comfortable in front of my pinky finger that helps me feel like the knife is locked in. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a great in pocket carry option.

A Great Knife

I carry this knife any time I feel it not appropriate for a clip to be hanging out of my pocket. I know I will have a sturdy knife with a great blade anytime I pull it out and stays razor sharp. Lightweight and slim enough to disappear in the pocket with my keys.

I think this is one of my favorite knives. I put my own mirror edge on it and the Micarta matches well with My Shirogorov F95nl

Great Office Carry

After picking this up as a office/business knife I can understand the pull towards traditional knives. Sure you can’t use it in as many applications as a modern folder, but it’ll do every job you come across in an office with ease while looking classy doing it. The micarta handles are top notch (after smoothing out one rough edge) and the Blade profile is my favorite of the read more options. Great job Benchmade.

My favorite slip joint

I carry this knife almost daily and the slim profile of it helps it disappear in my pocket. Great for everyday tasks and being able to take it apart to clean it is a nice bonus.

I have several small slip joint knives. They tend to be my go to every day knives. The Proper is better than all of the others. Case knives are nice (also carry a Sodbuster jr and medium stockman) and the Victorinox Cadet is useful, but this knife just feels perfect. It opens more easily than my Falkniven LTC and the micarta scales are just about perfect. If you’re thinking about read more it, just get one. You won’t be disappointed.

PERFECT EDC KNIFE!

Though slightly smaller than expected, it does the job. Love the feel of the smooth textured micarta, ease of sharpening a sheep's foot blade, & the overall workmanship. Only word of advice...unless you're very experienced in using pocket-knives in a plethora of ways...I don't recommend a slip-joint. I learned the HARD-WAY as a young boy; I almost went completely through a digit! read more

If you lean traditional and love micarta...go for it. Oh yeah...it IS somewhat high $ for what you get...but a must for a complete collection. Thanks BHQ!

One word came to mind when i opened that blue box.

Arthur A.

That word was Quality. Not shocking to most people who have owned a Benchmade before. This is my first. The action is firm and has ZERO wiggle or grit. The micarta scales are soft and supple and inspire a good grip for a two handed opening. The knife is lighter than I expected but that just means it will comfortably vanish into a pocket. The jimping is there but gently rounded. read more The S30V took a patch of forearm hair off right out of the box even though the factory grind looks a bit rough at a glance. Have to run it through my KO Worksharp to gent that mirror convex edge. Fantastic modern slip joint thats built to last!

I was back and forth between several knives as an after Christmas present to myself and I just kept coming back to the simple design of the proper. I don’t regret my decision one bit. While some online have been critical of benchmade for their fit and finish mine is flawless, as in I can find nothing out of place on this knife. Lock up is good and positive, blade grind is spot read more on, and I am absolutely in love with micarta! If you are at all interested in picking up a “traditional” style knife you will not be disappointed. Can’t wait to start out 2019 with this as my new edc.

My first knife as a kid was a cheap (made in Pakistan) flea market slip joint. I carried it everywhere. Then as most kids do.. I lost it. 30 years later I see this in my local knife shop as I'm picking up the Bugout I just ordered.
Needless to say, I came home with two knives. Benchmade hit a home run with this one. Can't wait to see how this lineup evolves.

We all know the feeling. The joy of another knife freshly delivered. Laying the package out on the kitchen counter, slicing everything to shreds keeping us from our new treasure. This time it was different. Very different. This package contained the Benchmade 319. I had to tell myself over and over that "this is just a knife". But it's not. The fit, feel and finish of this incredible read more knife will remind you just why you enjoy knives in the first place.

Love this

Mine came extremely sharp, with flawless fit and finish. Been carrying for about a week and a half and it's hard to put down. Not great when I'm on the job and need one handed opening, but when I'm not at work, it's my new go-to knife.

Great modern slipjoint!

I love this knife, it is a great play on an old design. I love the modern touches to this old school design. The warncliff blade in S30V is a great choice for this small edc. It's almost to small in my hand but still fits nicely. The green micarta looks and feels great and will only look better with age and use. Definetly would recommend to both traditional fans and people looking read more to branch out from modern edc

Good travel/Non-murdery option

It's a good little slipjoint. The reason I bought it, was that it's a knife that is pretty universally legal, so it would make a good travel knife. Centering wasn't perfect but not rubbing on the scale or anything. Came sharp enough, and s30v is a nice steel out of benchmade. Overall, I would reccommend.

I’ve had this knife for awhile and love it, it’s nice to pull out a knife that doesnt scare everyone lol. I love the wear on the micarta handles.

Great quality on this modern slipjoint. It's my first slipjoint and my first Benchmade. Very happy with this knife and with Benchmade's fit and finish. Highly recommended.

The knife I’ve always wanted

This is such an awesome knife. I had been waiting for the day when someone would finally make a slipjoint knife with a super steel in it. S30v is great for edc and I love that this knife has torx screws in it so you can take it apart to clean it or tighten it up over time. I feel like this is a knife that will be passed down for generations. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this knife read more again if I was to ever lose mine and I eventually plan on buying the version in the red g10 soon

Quality Product

I give this knife 5 stars because it feels like quality. I bought this knife to carry when I wear dress clothes and pulling out my Spyderco would give people a scare, and it suits this purpose well. My only complaint is that it came from the factory really dull. I mean I have had cheap Buck and Gerber knives come out of the box sharper than this knife. I didnt take away any stars read more because I can sharpen it easily, but when you buy an expensive knife from a reputable company a sharp blade out of the box is expected. BOTTOM LINE: Quality product, I would recommend it!

Quality and class

This knife has superb fit and finish. The micarta scales are smooth and refined and the lockup is solid. Benchmade has made a solid entrance into the slipjoint world with this knife. This knife is worth every cent.

Homerun! I've been looking for a knife to carry to work in my pocket. I actually like that this does not come with a pocket clip. This knife is a nod to the past with some touch of modernism. The lanyard/key ring hole are nice touches. I've tried putting it on my key ring but have to say it definitely adds bulk to my key set. I would have given it five stars, but the edge of my read more blade near the tip looks a bit rolled on one side, or it just wasn't finished well enough. It's nothing that some sharpening won't fix, but this isn't a $5 key ring knife--it's $100+ and it should have been finished properly to begin with. I dock 1 star for that.

Simplicity with a punch of coolness

I really like this knife. I have the green micarta (two actually) and after carrying for a week or so now, the scales are taking on some wear and it's building some character into the knife. I am a huge knife nut and have about every variety possible but I find myself grabbing this one in the morning. it's just plain simple and gets the easy tasks done for me through out the day. read more And of course it Benchmade so it has the quality to stand behind the price tag.

Beautiful knife!

I've been waiting for Benchmade to come out with slip joint folder that wasn't part of their Hunt line. The fit and finish is typical Benchmade quality. The blade steel is excellent and the green micarta scales rock! Think of this knife as a Case on steroids. As always BHQ customer service is the best!
