Nice EDC

Ryan E.

Great knife, although pretty stiff at first. Takes quite a bit of working in or adjusting. The handle is awesome, the blade is razor-sharp (or can get there) - but I own the Pilar Smokewash Exclusive as well & I find myself reaching for the sheepsfoot blade more often.

Clip is delivered on wrong side

Very nice little knife but can for the world of me not understand why the clip is delivered this way just feels so wrong pulling it out having to turn it 180 deg to flip it open.
Like the style but doubt it will ever become one of my fav knifes

Nice knife

Great little knife to have as an unobtrusive EDC. Fits in the pocket with other stuff and you can even put it in your 5th pocket. The detent was really strong on mine when I got it so I had to dedicate some time opening and closing it. The blade was nice and sharp as well as centered. You're not gonna be cutting up trees in your backyard with this guy but for the normal little things read more in life, it works just fine. The quality of this knife is great as well, no negatives from me. If you're looking for a weird little knife that is actually kinda cool-this is it.

I have always loved the design and build quality of this knife. The natural G-10 handle look so good and feels great to hold.

Best small knife I've carried

Thomas V.

I normally carry knives in the 3-4" range(UTX-85, PM2) but I wanted a small knife to carry in my tight af skinny jeans and this fit the bill. Overall a nice little knife. Blade was shaving sharp out of the box. Blade was centered. My only issue was the detent. It was STRONG and the blade was hard to open with one hand. Spent an afternoon opening and closing it and it smoothed out read more a lot. What can you expect for the price. Overall, would recommend if you need a nice small knife.

Great little EDC. Highly recommend. The spring assisted blade takes fidgeting to the next level.

This knife is beautiful. Compact, love the micarta scale and light weight. Feels great in the hand. Becoming a big fan of CRKT.

It's okay...

Seth S.

Overall this is an okay knife.

Especially for the price.

After owning it for a few months however, it's just a knife.

Nothing special or outstanding about it.

It's just kind of there.

The knife is well built and performs as it should.

Given that and it's price point, if it was lost or misplaced, I wouldn't sweat it to much.

It's read more just an average knife.

The Squid to get!

Ryan F.

I typically carry a small knife in the fifth pocket of my jeans. Usually a Spyderco Dragonfly or similar. The CRKT Squid has similar dimensions as the Spyderco Dragonfly but its weight prevented me from purchasing. Until this exclusive came along, which nailed it. This version drops a full ounce over the standard Squid with a micarta show scale. And adds an excellent D2 steel blade. read more The smokewash finish is great looking, will likely hide scratches, and potentially prevent corrosion. Fit, finish, and action are great. Very minor complaints: the micarta is more slick than I expected and I am not used to the feel of a thumb stud in said fifth pocket. Please make a D2 micarta Squid flipper next!

Hard to open

Todd a.

nice looking knife but thumb studs too hard to open easily. have to sharpen before first use.

Getting your money's worth

Margaret B.

Great knife for the price. Surprisingly sturdy/dense/heavy in hand for a small knife and feels like it will hold up to a good beating. The scales are nice and smooth making for a good worry stone. It is attractive as well with the black stone wash. This knife is really fun to modify - I added the flytanium copper backspacer - not liking the look with the 1/2 copper scale. It needed read more some lube for sure with first purchase and a little bending on the liner lock but now the open and close are perfect.

My first squid, first bhq exclusive, and first crkt in a year.

Andre m.

I never really liked crkt for their material choice but loved their designs. this changes everything. beautiful micarta show side, d2 smoke washed blade and lock side, and a really nice deep carry pocket clip. And a cherry on top? they switched out the crappy Teflon washers for some bronze of some sort, greatly improving the action of this little guy. the spear point blade came read more with a nice mirror edge which was decently sharp. the gimping along the beginning of the spine is widely spaced, but still functional. I can get all 4 fingers on there if I squeeze. this is (this particular one) an amazing urban EDC option and fixes all the flaws of the original squid.

My Favorite Squid

Antonio M.

I am a fan of the Squid. I have the basic steel model, the Jade G10 version, and now this version. This one is both the nicest looking and best one of the three. It's a smooth opener, and the Micarta scale is very nice. I love it. Good job.

Nice knife! This is my third version of this knife (standard silver, jade G10) and now this one. The micarta is much better than I thought and I like it alot. Looks much better in person and I highly recommend it.

Compact EDC with BIG value

STEVEN G.

For $35, you can't beat the Squid.

In natural G10 and D2 steel, this Lucas Burnley design has easily become an EDC favorite.

Its small size allows it to be easily carried as a secondary knife, which is usually in my shirt pocket.

I'm still trying to decide if I want to dye the scale; however, I really like the clean look that the lighter shade of green creates read more in unison with the stainless steel frame (on the pocket clip side).

I'm usually not a fan of different scale materials/colors, but it seems to really work in this instance.

With my medium/large hand, I'm able to get a 3-finger grip on the knife.

There's a well-placed lanyard hole at the butt. Maybe adding a little paracord tail might provide just a little more purchase, thus just a little more control and leverage when digging in for a cut.

When a non-knife person asks for a knife, I'm more likely to hand them this little guy over one of my larger more expensive knives.

The thumb stud flipper action isn't as amazing as I'd hope, but it gets better with practice. Reverse flipping (using the index finger on the thumb stud on the other side) seems to work best for me.

If you're considering the Squid, keep in mind, we've all spent $40 on worse things, so go for it!

Best of success with your EDC and remember to enjoy the slice!

Tiny buy mighty Squid, great steel

Paulo C.

Action great for a small blade, phosphor bronze washers. D2 blade strops up shaving sharp.

G-10 scale knocks down weight considerably, but not as colorful/jade as photos show; more muted/neutral, should take dye nicely.

Fits perfectly in jeans coin pocket. Perfect size for office carry, not likely to scare anyone upon use.

Nice Second Squid

Antonio M.

This is my second Squid and I love it. I can confirm it is supplied with bronze washers. My other Squid is the base Stainless Steel model and is my go-to for serious home projects. The new Squid sports D2 and is significantly lighter.

Great edc

Paul W.

had this knife for several years, it has held up well.

pros:
decent edge retention and durability
good lockup and alignment
small and lightweight
good acid wash finish hides scratches well

cons:
hollow ground tip is weaker than a flat grind

Cool little knife

Andrew C.

Fit and finish are great for the price. It is really a quality knife. For me, I like the size but maybe one of the pilars would be better. It's difficult to open and feel like it's going to slip, but that's just from the size. Overall, great budget edc small knife.

A Cool Blade

Lyle C.

It's a stubby little bugger but it's functional and finely crafted with a cool acid stonewash look and a nice feel. In my case it came a little dull and needed to be sharpened on my sharpening stone, other than that a cool little blade.

Fun little knife with room for improvement

Mitchell W.

This was a fun knife to play around with and I like the design, but I do feel there are some things that could be better. The gimping on the blade feels like it needs to move up just a tad further beyond the thumb studs to feel more natural. The action on mine was pretty stiff out of the box but the centering was pretty good. My personal preference would have been to gone with G-10 read more for both sides of the scale. Mine has some lock stick so you have to load up on the thumb stud to get it open.

Nice Little Knife

The order delivered promptly and the knife had no quality defects. The blade is sharp and the jade handle is pleasing to the eye.

JADE

The G-10 JADE makes this great EDC even better. The JADE and contrasting black is strikingly beautiful. Apparently I am not the only one who feels this way as this is the second sell out is as many offerings.

A Classic

LOGAN H.

My favorite knife in this size range. I adore the design of the Squid which, simple as it is, I enjoy looking at as much as using. The curves are just right, and the jade G-10 with the black coating of the blade perfectly embody its cephalopod inspiration—very squid-like. Feels great in the hand and pocket. D-2 steel gives you every reason to own this knife at this price. It came read more sharp, and the action was smooth. It won’t meet the tasks in a factory or warehouse, but it’s a good office carry, and I love just having it out and about, as well as for basic cutting tasks around the house.

Fun little EDC

Brock W.

I love the overall size of the squid and it came very sharp. Locks up nice and easy to open. A few small things I didn't care for, it is much thinner than expected, which sort of makes it feel a little cheaper. I'm sure some people prefer that though. I don't care for the color either. I wish it looked like the picture, a nice jade green color. Instead, it's a more tan/off-white/clear read more kind of natural g10. I've dyed other g10 grips with success before, so maybe I'll just give this a dip to really make it that green color.

Other than those minor things, it's a great little knife for the collection.

Great little California carry

Ron W.

I collect knives but living in California limits which ones I can carry on an EDC basis. This little knife fits the bill on blade length and cool looks. The one thing I don't like is that you can't put the pocket clip on the other side. Being left handed that is a downside but not a deal breaker. It looks great in the brass color and the action is good. Over all a great little knife read more that serves it purpose very well.

Great EDC!

Nate T.

D2 is a great upgrade from the normal squid and the G10 scale makes it a lot lighter as well. The only problem is the lockbar somehow harder to access than the normal squid and there is a little bit of lockstick...

Light weight EDC

Jaen R.

Great little knife, super sharp out of the box. Very comfortable in the hand and has become my go to EDC. The D2 blade is robust and feels sturdier than my other squid.

Love These Knives

JASON H.

I own both the silver and all black stonewashed versions of these knives and love them. I remove the pocket clips, tie a small leather lanyard to the end, and use them mostly as secondary/fifth pocket carries along with a full size folder. There’s nothing bad to say about these knives: they’re inexpensive, super versatile in that despite their small size they can take a beating read more due to their simplistic and stout design, and they are cute enough that people not used to being around knives won’t feel threatened when you pull one out in a meeting. Lastly, these are the perfect gift knives as they’re very fun and easy to modify for some personalization if you’re into that sort of the thing, and inexpensive enough that you won’t go broke. I hope CRKT makes these forever.

Love this knife, the G-10 is very nice and came razor sharp. D2 is a great steel, awesome edc!

Great 2nd carry EDC knife

Kody S.

CRKT really nailed the look with this guy the light sanding around the edges gives this knife an excellent "worn in" look.

My only gripe with the squid that the blade "obviously" lacks weight due to it's size so this makes it hard to quickly fire it into a locked position with a single motion every everytime.

Mine is only about a week old so maybe with more use it'll read more wear in a bit. Plus I believe this is common with other knives of this scale.

Aside from that this a great small knife and makes a perfect for a backup to any larger EDC knife.

This guy fits perfect in the little 5th pocket found on most pants just above the right front pocket. Great fro anyone who wants to carry a 2nd smaller EDC

I love the Squid but Wish there was Better QC

Hyun L.

I love the Squid. The design is almost perfect. I have owned 4 squids and I love giving them out as gifts. What I do wish though is that they have better quality control. Mine did come out sharp out of the box, but the action on it was not smooth and I had to clean and lube it before it was passable.

Awesome light weight edc

Blade S.

Mine showed up razor shape and ready to go to work. The natural jade G-10 is very nice. Great feel in hand.perfect lockup, strong detent. but centering on mine is a bit off .Wears well in pocket/watch pocket as well. D2 blade steel. CRKT you've done well and thank you Blade HQ for making this happen.

This was the first knife i've owned and am psyched for it. The Jade G-10 handle with the G-2 steel looks amazing. I can't help pulling it out of my pocket and admiring it. The blade is sharp and exactly the size i need for a daily EDC. Can't wait to increase my collection in the future.

Awesome EDC Blade

Great blade with a compact and slim design. Stylish without being loud. Great upgrades over the generic design format. Very sharp and slices great, firm lockup with a nice fit and finish. Probably one of the best lite-weight and pocketable knife options without sacrificing cutting force.

A great upgrade

Jonathan P.

I just received it in the mail today and I must say that I am impressed. It had been a few years that I have bought a CRKT and the quality control is on point. It came sharp out of box, centered, and solid lockup. Also the action was a bit stiff but after about 5 minutes it loosened up very nice. I think this is a perfect watch pocket sized knife, and the upgrade to D2 is awesome. read more Blade HQ also did a great job getting it shipped out fast. I ordered on Friday at lunch and it was in my mailbox when I got home from work on Monday.

Pretty good

Sully C.

It’s a bit chunkier than I initially thought. The size is good, don’t get me wrong, but I thought it would be skinnier. The lockup is great, but it’s hard to flick open without loosening the pivot. I may have gotten a bad apple though. I took it apart and found a kinda bent washer (no hope of fixing that). Putting an edge on the squid is extremely easy, and it holds it for read more a surprisingly long time for 8cr13mov.

Tough, cheap, great starter knife

Kiyoshi Y.

Initially I disliked this knife so after receiving it as a gift I made it my edc/work knife. The more I carried it, however, the more it demonstrated it's tremendous tenacity. It has taken a lot of hard use from everyday cutting task like packages and boxes, food preparation, and even medium use in the outdoors. The blade requires relatively frequent sharpening but given the price read more one can't complain. I personally appreciate the stonewashed finish because I'm not worried about damaging it, and the construction is solid. The knife only developed a tiny bit of vertical blade play after a particularly hard knock. I still carry this knife today almost two years later and respect it more every week. Overall fantastic little knife and something I would recommend to anyone.

Great for those visits to the big city...

John G.

I live by a city with a 2.5" locking blade limit. When I head in for the day, instead of taking a chance on getting in trouble for carrying my Delica, Bugout, or Rat II, I grab this little guy. The 8CR13Mov can get razor sharp and will stay that way (cause lets be honest, none of you will be heading into a survival situation or going hiking with this as your main blade). It will read more be helpful for cutting threads, opening letters/food items, and any other day to day knife tasks. You need that sub 2.5" knife? Go for the squid. Little small in hand but so easy to use and choke up on with a pinch-grip.

Paying it Forward

Kelly R.

I've already written a review, but after several more days I just can't say enough good things about this knife. I had the black stonewash and ordered the stonewashed from you guys. I ended up gifting the one I got from you to a young man who works in a warehouse whose knife recently broke. I told him that there would be no hard feelings if he felt it wouldn't work for him at work read more and that he could keep it regardless. I am not an expert by any means, but I told him I would help him find a new, good knife for work if the Squid didn't work out. He absolutely loves it! Thank you again for the amazing recommendation and thank you CRKT and Lucas Burnley for an amazing little knife.

Excellent

Kelly R.

Excellent! I started seeing this knife pop on on YouTube while I researching something else. I got curious because it fits all my criteria for what I like in a good, all-around knife. Blade shape, lock up, feel, and size. I wanted to try it and ordered one, but then turned around and found one in a local store. I was expecting it to be stiff so I gave it a really strong and flick. read more The salesman and I both were shocked. He actually asked me if it was assisted opening because it opened so smoothly.
It is perfect, for me. As a woman my hands aren't that small, but they aren't large either. I can easily fit four finger grip when I hold this knife. It is just amazing. I have never held a knife that feels like it was made for just my hand until I held this. I love it!
You don't expect a small knife like this to have much weight, but it does. It's not heavy by any means, but the heft just adds to my ability to feel like I'm complete control when I use this. I've cut so many things just in the 24 hours I've owned this: junk mail, cardboard, sticks, rubber, rope, paracord...
It came out of the box shaving sharp and still hasn't lost its edge.
Thank you, Blade HQ for introducing me to this! It's not just a good knife "for its size" or "its price". It's just a good knife.

Absolutely love this knife!

Vladimir F.

I have just received the Squid and I absolutely loved from the moment I touched it. It feels sold, hefty and rugged. The action is really good. It's very sharp out of the box, but the cutting edge is not super smooth. Cuts paper and shaves hair just fine.

The whole knife does not feel cheap and $20 I paid for it seems more than reasonable.

Deep carry clip is excellent read more and rides pretty low (could be lower, though).

The shape is great for ergonomics. It's a great small EDC knife. I've been EDCing Kershaw Scallion and I really enjoy that knife, but the torsion bar broke on it (after almost 10 years!) and while I am waiting on replacement from Kershaw I wanted a replacement of similar size. I think Squid has a much better blade shape. I really never cared for recurve on the scallion and I sharpened most of it away. I think Squid will become my new EDC of this size. Just love it!

I wanted a compact, small bladed knife to fit into my EDC rotation, so I picked up a squid on sale. This, in my opinion, possesses the quality and value for your money that is on par with the Spyderco Tenacious. For 20 dollars, you get a completely stainless steel frame lock with a workhorse design and infinite functionality. Its small size belies its ability to complete most every day tasks. Fortunately, it is not intimidating to those who do not share our love of tools and for read more the most part it is legal in nearly any place you should choose to go. Surprisingly, it actually came razor sharp. I've gotten more cuts with this than my Spyderco Manix 2 as I did not expect it to be that razor sharp. Buy it, you certainly will not be disappointed. Lastly, it makes a perfect and wallet friendly gift!

Great EDC knife, especially for non-knife people

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. She likes the knife because it's slim, unobtrusive and looks non-threatening. It cuts well and has a solid lockup. It can be deployed one-handed, however due to it's size, some folks may have issues doing so but that may vary person to person. I liked the squid so much that I may buy one for myself as a backup to my main edc knife. read more For the price, I highly recommend it.

This knife is pretty great. It's nice and solid an feels good in my small hands. I keep it on me when I go jogging since it's so small. My only complaint is how hard it is to flip the blade out. It's not a pain but it would be nice to be able to flick it out easily. Other than that I think this is a rad knife.

There’s not much I can say about the CRKT Squid that hasn’t already been said. Despite some minor fit and finish blemishes that can be expected at this price point, you are getting a great knife for the money. My particular blade was asymmetrically ground, but the 8Cr13MoV steel came razor sharp and was easy to touch up between use. The knife fits very well in the hand for such read more a small handle and feels incredibly solid. The frame lock continues to provide a secure lockup after about 1 year’s use, and the action has improved considerably over time. A great little knife you can throw in your pocket and forget you are carrying until you need it.

I love this thing. Best $20 I ever spent. The little screws towards the lanyard hole get loose sometimes but that's no real problem. This knife deploys so incredibly fast once it's broken in. Small and unassuming, but functional and very comfortable in hand. You won't regret this purchase, even if you're used to spending 10× this amount on knives.

One of the Best sub $20 EDC Blades

Ethan C.

The Squid is an excellent choice for a sub $20 budget knife. The black stonewash looks really classy, almost like a gentleman's folder. Blade is thick enough to handle some tougher tasks, but small enough to legally carry almost anywhere (US). Nice deeper carry pocket clip. Fairly smooth for having teflon washers. They could easily sell it for $10-$15 more with bronze washers and read more I'd buy it. 8cr13mov holds a decent edge and is easily resharpened. Again if they ever come out with an upgraded steel version (in conjunction with the washers) It'd definitely be worth it. Overall excellent folder.

You could not buy a more solid knife for this price. The locking mechanism works great, I love the titanium body (which also has plenty of space for engraving), and the overall sharpness/point of the knife is just marvelous. One of my favorite knifes, easy.

Great little knife for small cutting and package opening. I use it as a small backup folder for small tasks. Works great and razor sharp! Great ergonomics with no issues! Try it out! Only $20 on Blade HQ!! What a steal!

I must say, having owned a Spyderco Techno and now this knife, it is INCREDIBLE value. Very, VERY solid, great sharpness, carries nice and deep--a new favorite knife. dollar for dollar, this is hard to beat. Very stout and reliable.
