It's okay...

Overall this is an okay knife.

Especially for the price.

After owning it for a few months however, it's just a knife.

Nothing special or outstanding about it.

It's just kind of there.

The knife is well built and performs as it should.

Given that and it's price point, if it was lost or misplaced, I wouldn't sweat it to much.

It's read more just an average knife.

Great knife for the price. Surprisingly sturdy/dense/heavy in hand for a small knife and feels like it will hold up to a good beating. The scales are nice and smooth making for a good worry stone. It is attractive as well with the black stone wash. This knife is really fun to modify - I added the flytanium copper backspacer - not liking the look with the 1/2 copper scale. It needed read more some lube for sure with first purchase and a little bending on the liner lock but now the open and close are perfect.

Great design

A really nice feeling knife with a clean design. This is one of the better budget knives I've used.

Great edc

had this knife for several years, it has held up well.

pros:
decent edge retention and durability
good lockup and alignment
small and lightweight
good acid wash finish hides scratches well

cons:
hollow ground tip is weaker than a flat grind

Cool little knife

Fit and finish are great for the price. It is really a quality knife. For me, I like the size but maybe one of the pilars would be better. It's difficult to open and feel like it's going to slip, but that's just from the size. Overall, great budget edc small knife.

A Cool Blade

It's a stubby little bugger but it's functional and finely crafted with a cool acid stonewash look and a nice feel. In my case it came a little dull and needed to be sharpened on my sharpening stone, other than that a cool little blade.

Great little California carry

I collect knives but living in California limits which ones I can carry on an EDC basis. This little knife fits the bill on blade length and cool looks. The one thing I don't like is that you can't put the pocket clip on the other side. Being left handed that is a downside but not a deal breaker. It looks great in the brass color and the action is good. Over all a great little knife read more that serves it purpose very well.

Great 2nd carry EDC knife

Kody S.

CRKT really nailed the look with this guy the light sanding around the edges gives this knife an excellent "worn in" look.

My only gripe with the squid that the blade "obviously" lacks weight due to it's size so this makes it hard to quickly fire it into a locked position with a single motion every everytime.

Mine is only about a week old so maybe with more use it'll read more wear in a bit. Plus I believe this is common with other knives of this scale.

Aside from that this a great small knife and makes a perfect for a backup to any larger EDC knife.

This guy fits perfect in the little 5th pocket found on most pants just above the right front pocket. Great fro anyone who wants to carry a 2nd smaller EDC

Great for those visits to the big city...

I live by a city with a 2.5" locking blade limit. When I head in for the day, instead of taking a chance on getting in trouble for carrying my Delica, Bugout, or Rat II, I grab this little guy. The 8CR13Mov can get razor sharp and will stay that way (cause lets be honest, none of you will be heading into a survival situation or going hiking with this as your main blade). It will read more be helpful for cutting threads, opening letters/food items, and any other day to day knife tasks. You need that sub 2.5" knife? Go for the squid. Little small in hand but so easy to use and choke up on with a pinch-grip.

Excellent

Excellent! I started seeing this knife pop on on YouTube while I researching something else. I got curious because it fits all my criteria for what I like in a good, all-around knife. Blade shape, lock up, feel, and size. I wanted to try it and ordered one, but then turned around and found one in a local store. I was expecting it to be stiff so I gave it a really strong and flick. read more The salesman and I both were shocked. He actually asked me if it was assisted opening because it opened so smoothly.
It is perfect, for me. As a woman my hands aren't that small, but they aren't large either. I can easily fit four finger grip when I hold this knife. It is just amazing. I have never held a knife that feels like it was made for just my hand until I held this. I love it!
You don't expect a small knife like this to have much weight, but it does. It's not heavy by any means, but the heft just adds to my ability to feel like I'm complete control when I use this. I've cut so many things just in the 24 hours I've owned this: junk mail, cardboard, sticks, rubber, rope, paracord...
It came out of the box shaving sharp and still hasn't lost its edge.
Thank you, Blade HQ for introducing me to this! It's not just a good knife "for its size" or "its price". It's just a good knife.

Excellent small blade EDC

I wanted a compact, small bladed knife to fit into my EDC rotation, so I picked up a squid on sale. The squid really works for those times when you don't have the pocket room for a larger knife or when you just want to carry something less bulky. The squid gets the job done and comes in at a good price point

Love this knife

If you don't have a squid by now you are just wrong.... This is a no brainier for the cost and what you are getting... I love this knife so much I have at least 4 on hand so I can give it away to anyone interested in it and it always becomes their EDC....you can't beat this little guy !!!!

This knife is awesome. I don’t have any hot spots while holding it as all the corners are nice and smoothed. Probably one of the best knives to come out of CRKT

Great EDC knife, especially for non-knife people

Alonso L.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my girlfriend. She likes the knife because it's slim, unobtrusive and looks non-threatening. It cuts well and has a solid lockup. It can be deployed one-handed, however due to it's size, some folks may have issues doing so but that may vary person to person. I liked the squid so much that I may buy one for myself as a backup to my main edc knife. read more For the price, I highly recommend it.

A good one

This knife is pretty great. It's nice and solid an feels good in my small hands. I keep it on me when I go jogging since it's so small. My only complaint is how hard it is to flip the blade out. It's not a pain but it would be nice to be able to flick it out easily. Other than that I think this is a rad knife.

There’s not much I can say about the CRKT Squid that hasn’t already been said. Despite some minor fit and finish blemishes that can be expected at this price point, you are getting a great knife for the money. My particular blade was asymmetrically ground, but the 8Cr13MoV steel came razor sharp and was easy to touch up between use. The knife fits very well in the hand for such read more a small handle and feels incredibly solid. The frame lock continues to provide a secure lockup after about 1 year’s use, and the action has improved considerably over time. A great little knife you can throw in your pocket and forget you are carrying until you need it.

Great knife. Thumb tab and lock are rough on the thumb, but still fun to open and close. The blade shape is very sturdy, perfect for opening boxes and breaking them down. Very nice little knife.

I figured at its price point it would be a cheap little knife... Boy was I pleasantly surprised with the great craftsmanship and action of the blade. Job well done CRKT!

So good

I love this thing. Best $20 I ever spent. The little screws towards the lanyard hole get loose sometimes but that's no real problem. This knife deploys so incredibly fast once it's broken in. Small and unassuming, but functional and very comfortable in hand. You won't regret this purchase, even if you're used to spending 10× this amount on knives.

One of the Best sub $20 EDC Blades

Ethan C.

The Squid is an excellent choice for a sub $20 budget knife. The black stonewash looks really classy, almost like a gentleman's folder. Blade is thick enough to handle some tougher tasks, but small enough to legally carry almost anywhere (US). Nice deeper carry pocket clip. Fairly smooth for having teflon washers. They could easily sell it for $10-$15 more with bronze washers and read more I'd buy it. 8cr13mov holds a decent edge and is easily resharpened. Again if they ever come out with an upgraded steel version (in conjunction with the washers) It'd definitely be worth it. Overall excellent folder.

Good edc knife

Some people don't like this knife but I think it's better than others in same price range. It feels solid not flimsy and that's a win in my book. Simple design, but that's what makes it great. Can't go wrong with this one. Perfect for people starting to collect or as a gift.

Great EDC!

Great EDC for a starter knife. I've started carrying an EDC, mostly for safety cuz I walk in downtown at night and to and from work. But this knife works great opening boxes at work and other daily tasks.

It works great for people w/ smaller hands. I added a short paracord lanyard for convenience to get the knife out of your pocket.

My reason for 1 star short, the read more blade doesn't stay sharp very long. After opening a few boxes heavily tapped, the edge can get dull. But it isn't something that should stop you from getting the knife. Just keep a sharpener on hand and it should be razor sharp in no time!

Awesome

You could not buy a more solid knife for this price. The locking mechanism works great, I love the titanium body (which also has plenty of space for engraving), and the overall sharpness/point of the knife is just marvelous. One of my favorite knifes, easy.

I must say, having owned a Spyderco Techno and now this knife, it is INCREDIBLE value. Very, VERY solid, great sharpness, carries nice and deep--a new favorite knife. dollar for dollar, this is hard to beat. Very stout and reliable.
