Not for soft hands
The amount of people saying they cant open it one handed or that they cant put in in their pocket is laughable. Even saw a guy say he couldn't open a box with it. Sounds like a user error to me. It can be opened with one hand and clipped into a pocket with one hand. It is a tight lock so it can't be flicked around and played with like a fidget spinner, so if that is what you are… read more looking for this probably isn't the knife for you. The quality of steel is reflected in the price, but for that price it is a good knife that can handle normal edc tasks. I give these out as gifts or small items since they're so reasonably priced and people seem to love them. One problem with the tan scale is that it will start to pick up color from grass and new blue jeans. maybe it'll wash off with some scrubbing but haven't tried and don't plan too.
The Last Gerber(s)
Gerber Flatiron Tan G-10, If I were to describe this Gerber Flatiron in one word, it would be "stiff". The particular Tan G-10 Flatiron I got my hands on, I could neither open nor close it with one hand. That is bad. However, interestingly enough, I also purchased another Flatiron, this one with the Black Aluminum scales (will write a separate review for that one), which had neither…

of these problems. So maybe the one word should be "inconsistent". If I were to look at this particular knife without that context, I would be very disappointed. Although the Flatiron is undoubtedly robustly constructed, very visually appealing, and ergonomically pleasant, this Flatiron is much too stiff to be practical. The Pocket clip is fat, short, and stubborn...it reminds me of myself, unfortunately. The action comes with such intense retention that makes two-handed opening is a necessity. The blade is only semi-sharp and the lockup suffers from over travel. All are stiff to the point I refuse to carry it, except to turn heads. But these are all problems that could possibly be symptoms of one bad model (although I doubt it), slipping through quality control, so do not let this review deter you from buying a Flatiron, but know that it might be a serious gamble. Sorry Bill. 63/100
TANK
Thing is built like a panzer tank. The blade gets a little wobbly and dull. But hey it's a dang clever
GERBER FLAT IRON CLEAVER
THIS KNIFE IS VERY SHARP.
FEELS GOOD IN MY HAND.
I HAVEN'T DONE ANY "CLEAVING'' WITH IT YET, I'M SURE (BEING A GERBER) IT WILL PERFORM GREAT. FYI, I CURRENTLY HAVE OVER 10 GERBERS IN MY 76+ KNIFE COLLECTION.
Cleaver nation
I've had this knife alittle over a week. Can't find anything to dislike about it. Good balance, easy to open with one hand, easy to sharpen, very sturdy and well made. Better get one, you won't be disappointed.
Pretty Decent Knife
I was hoping this knife would be better than it was, but it's not too bad. Its a very large knife and has a large and very usable finger choil. The thumb hole is kinda weird and its hard to flick open as well as a Spyderco, but you certainly can with or without gloves. I imagine it's a great tool for hard work, but I do not do the type of work that I'd need a huge cleaver. By the… read more way, the blade is very very thick. The construction is pretty good and centering is nice. The pocket clip is real weird and kinda sucks. I was hoping this would be a smaller size and an awesome carry, but its decent at best.
Cool knife
Had seen theses online for a little while and finally decided to bite the bullet and grab one. Couldn’t love it more. Didn’t have any negatives like in the other comments. Love the pocket clip and I can open it one handed no problem
Cool LOOKING
Only knife I've purchased strictly because it looked cool.
Build quality: not great
Blade steel: not great
Size: friggen huge
Usefulness: none
Pocket clip: VERY DIFFICULT TO USE
Feels clunky and like it isnt assembled properly. Also not an easy knife to open with one hand. Almost need two hands to clip onto pocket, clip sucks.
Cleaver
I bought one of these because I didn’t want to pay a ton of money on a cleaver style blade.... with in the following days I believe I about 8 more. I was told by a local firearms dealer that Gerber planned to up the price and thought I would stock up before it happened.

duty LEO. I like
To rotate between knives but this style is what I come back to but now that I had multiple
I wouldn’t mind if I misplaced a few. Fast forward months and the first one i bought is holding up perfect the imperfections worked themselves out ( the pocket clip is EXTREMELY tight and you gotta force it on your pocket and may be a little rough to open at first). I gifted multiple ones I stocked as gifts for family and friends that also EDC them everyday mostly work outdoor and they swear by them.
I’m diggin it!
Perfect for what I need it for.
I remember why I don't buy gerber knives
I was excited for this knife because it was a clever style blade for an affordable price.
The Good:
- Build: feels tough and no blade play
The Bad:
- Poor Detent: you can shake the blade out easily
- pocket clip: I can't get this on my jeans out of the box. Super stiff.
- Width: Wider than expected when the blade is closed.
I can't recommend this…

knife unfortunately, but it was a good idea. Just a bit off the mark on execution.
Great Knife
Definitely a great knife for the price. The belt clip is a little stiff but it seems to be great now. Nearly zero play in the blade. The g10 feels great. Blade sharpness wasn’t the greatest but, sharpened it up doing well now, and come on it’s a cleaver can’t go wrong.
Entry Cleaver
I ordered this the day it was released. I received it today. I have been wanting a cleaver, but I didnt want to spend a lot of money for something I may not like. I'm sold on cleavers, they are quite functional. I like the grip, and the finish of the metal parts. My only gripe is that the pocket clip is super stiff.
