The first time I saw a photo of this knife, it made sense to me. I received mine today and it is WONDERFUL! I know it could be better steel, but the design seems close to perfect.

Fun Flicker

Brett O.

Good: Meaty blade shape. Fun flicking deployment. Frame lock. Vox design!
Bad: Very heavy. Blade is too thick to be a slicer.
Ugly: Cheapo steel, but what do you expect at this price?
Overall: The Pilar is a bonafide classic, easy/fun to mod, and super affordable. Can't miss with this one.

A Dependable Carry

Lyle C.

I had to have one. It's a great blade with a great look that functions nicely and is well made at a price that can't be beat. It's quality work and works like a charm. I liked it so much I bought a large one as well. Highly recommended for everyday use and beyond.

Very good-2 issues

Jeremy Z.

It is comfortable in the hand with room for all four fingers, thanks to the choil. However, when the clip is reversed for tip-up carry, the pants catch on the cutouts in the frame under the clip. I could overlook this and just pocket carry it.

The other thing is that when it is closed, the edge of the knife hits the spacer and blunts it. There's no excuse for this.

What read more we need is a high end version of this with better quality control and Maxamet blade steel.

Sharp, useful tool. Opening/Closing, not great

Ryan J.

The blade is sharp out of the box and handling the knife is very comfortable. I particularly like the finger groove that helps while working detailed projects. When locked, it feels solid with no worry of it slipping.

My nitpicks. Opening and closing feel stiff which makes one-handed opening/closing a little awkward. The handle lock is very stiff but I'm hoping it softens read more over time. Nice additions would have been a flipper lever and jimping.

I give this a four because, at this price point, it's a solid knife--despite my minor nitpicks. It cut through leather, cardboard and sharpened pencils easily.

LOVE IT

I love this little knife. It's a great EDC knife, small enough to not really feel it in your pocket but is definitely capable. You just cannot go wrong with this blade at this price point. I own two!

Affordable and Fun

The Pilar is so affordable and even more satisfying to have in hand/pocket. Its a great introduction to Jesper Voxnaes design and has inadvertently become one of the knives I can't stop flicking open. Simply a great knife, couldn't be happier.

Just started carrying a knife again. Chose this little beast. Ergonomic grip, and a great price point.
Weight is the only drawback, bit too heavy. So far it seems like a great little workhorse.

Amazing Knife w/ Gpod Ergonomics

This is amazing little gem from Jesper Voxnaes with the amazing ergonomics.

Prefect in the hand, easy opening (once you upgrade to bronze washers). Probably one of the most customized knife in the world. Lot's great aftermarket scales.

Cool knife, but heavy

I like this knife a lot. It's sharp outa the box, comfortable to hold, great box cutter. But it's heavy!

Feels nice, cuts nice, opens nice, and fits in the front pocket of my lady jeans. What more could you want from an EDC?

Great little framelock

Solid, solid, solid. Everything about this knife screams quality, from the feel in your hand to the satisfying click of the blade locking open. It's sharp enough out of the box and takes a wicked edge with a light honing and stropping. Great ergonomics (in my hands anyway) and while I would hate to lose it, I wouldn't think twice about picking up a replacement.

Solid

I am fairly new to the edc/knife game.
It's a solidly built knife.
I didn't care for the tip down orientation it was sent with. Easy enough to swap it though. It's been in my edc rotation frequently since it's arrival and thus far, I enjoy it.
It came sharp and is holding it's edge. I also like the clean/simple design.
For the price, you really can't complain about read more much with this one.

Too much hype

Timothy M.

The knife isn't bad at all, but after hearing how it was the bees knees forever I finally got one, and while I liked it, I ultimately ended up darkwashing and selling it. For $30 made in china you can get a Ruike or other much better quality build knife. There are other knives that have a great reputation and hold up like the Kalashkinov, but I found this a little disappointing. read more

Great little workhorse.

Shut up and take my money!

Aaron S.

I got this beauty a few months ago, still use it all the time. Perfect knife for breaking into the knife world or for long time members. The biggest plus to this knife is the ergonomics. True to voxneas fashion, the moment you feel it in your hand, you want to use it. The o my downside to it is the blade steel. You’re buying crkt, so obviously it won’t be par with giant mouse read more or fox knives, but for most edc tasks, this is a champ.

Amazing little utility knife

Douglas M.

When I first got this knife I was a little skeptical, given its price, however I was soon pleasantly surprised, and after a few months with it, eyeing buying a few more with different blade stocks and possibly scales. I would like more than one to leave in my car, or shed, or day pack, basically places where I need a knife as a tool, not an accessory, in case I don't have my usual read more EDC on me.

What I like about it:
Compact - can get into tight little spaces
Solid Build
easy to sharpen
With a little practice and time to break in, very satisfying to open with a 'spidy flick'
Designed by Voxnaes

What am I missing?

It's tricky to open, it's difficult to close, it's the CRKT Pilar! This knife had so much hype around it, that I had to have one...but then I ended up being given this knife. For free. From a coworker who, "has no use for bad knives". That is some red flags if I ever have seen some. The clip comes tip down and is kind of a nightmare to change. To my surprise, the awkward, obese read more reverse tanto blade (this is a joke, I am aware that it is a sheepsfoot) works well and comes plenty sharp. Similarly surprising is the ergonomics, which at first I found very poor, but if you choke up on the blade, they aren't bad. You are out of luck if you don't like hand grime on your blade though. The knife works well, for a fair price, just not near as great as some would lead you to believe. 70/100

Great design, average build

Thomas J.

I really love the look of this knife and since the price was reasonable, I ordered it without ever seeing or handling it before. The knife is a great design and size. I have medium sized male hands, so the fit in the fingers and palm is ideal. The blade is thick and gives the knife a nice weighted balance. Arrived extremely sharp out of the box, and I personally don't mind 8Cr13 read more steel. It's easy to sharpen and works on everything I need it for.

The only drawback is that the build quality is disappointing. Both finger choils were hot points that I had to dremel down, leaving a rough but more tolerable finish for the fingers. The blade was also off-center and extremely stiff to deploy out of the box. Even after taking it apart, cleaning and oiling, it's still not easy to open, and I never have been able to get the correct tension to allow it to close centered.

It's a great looking knife and I like to carry it, it's just not very fun to use. I would've gladly paid a higher price to get something with some quality materials and build. It's fair at this price, but it could have been much better.

This is my go to secondary knife and usually the knife I'm flicking when I'm stuck in traffic. Great ergonomics, smooth cutting edge and just a joy to carry.

Surprisingly excellent

I bought it because every one had one and I wanted to know why. Short answer is everything is refined to great. The lock up is great, the edge is great, the ergonomics are great, fit and finish is great. This knife surpassed all of my expectations by a far margin and finds its way into my pocket more often than not.

Very happy

First off I received this faster than scheduled, great job bladehq. I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, but didn’t think it would be worse than average, and didn’t expect anything above that. When it arrived I found it to be a great suprise. It has great ergos, and for as small as it is it inspires confidence in use. All in all very happy, and will recommend to friends read more and family alike.

Highly recommend

A buddy of mine got me one of these little guys as a gift and I couldnt be more pleased. I use this knife for prep work in my kitchen at home all the time, as it's perfect for the small chopping tasks. The ability to choke up gives good leverage while processing boxes and opening packages. Its solid, it's got heft to it, and it looks great.
The only issue I think anyone could read more have is that it's a full stainless steel which does feel a bit heavy sometimes.
I plan on ordering some flytanium brass scales for mine though, just to give it a classy vibe.

Little Workhorse

This little knife is a tank. It fits securely in your hand and has a sturdy feel to it. This is definitely a knife that's made to be used. Our can opener broke recently and this has become its temporary replacement. Just a quick touch up on the edge and it's good to go again after opening multiple cans. This is a sweet little go-to knife if you don't know what you'll need it for read more but want to be sure you're ready.

This knife is awesome because it feels bigger than it is heavy and the way it looks. The knife has decent steel but it also hasnt gone dull on me yet great buy

The design is great, but wish they'd make the g-10 version again. This thing is just too heavy for my taste. Wouldn't mind thinner blade stock either. If you want a little pocket tank, here's your knife.

Excellent Value

Randy N.

I purchased this knife because I thought it had unique look and was inexpensive. I really didn't think I would use it that much and definitely didn't plan to EDC it. It is heavy for its size, but really on a small knife like this it makes it feel more substantial. Also, I love the feel in hand, it has such a feeling of control that it becomes an extension of the hand. I really do read more not notice the weight in pocket and to my surprise I find myself grabbing it more and more from knife drawer each morning. All and all a very good value all things considered.

Great Value Great Knife Just one minor flaw

Ben C.

This is a Solid knife and it feels great in the hand. Most of the edges are real smooth EXCEPT the frame lock. The lock has groves with sharp edges that makes it rough on your fingers also the lock doesnt disengage smoothly which makes it hard to close with one hand. The back of the blade and the lock needed to be polished more to make it easier to operate.
That said this is read more a great knife for less than $25

Could be so much more

love the size and feel of the knife in hand but the 8cr steel is similar to the plastic knives you get with to-go food.

Great value EDC folder

Michael D.

I've only had this knife for about 30 minutes, but I can tell that it is a great value.
Pros: low price, small, sharp enough to be functional, cool finger choil, centered well (something that I can't say for my Benchmades), solid lockup
Cons: lockbar and finger choil both a little rough on the fingers and could have been smoothed out more, a little gritty at first until being read more lubed, if you have fat fingers you can cut yourself on the blade while using the finger choil, slightly heavy for the small size, slight lockstick
Overall: I would give 5 stars for the value, but the rough edges on the lockbar may make me not carry it often although it would be a great knife for using in an office style setting.

Better than the mini sheepdog

Jesiah B.

I don't say this lightly, the Pilar is better than Kizer's mini sheepdog. The Kizer has better steel and as a flipper is more fidget friendly.
The Pilar takes up similar pocket space, has a similar blade shape and gives you the same utility but with a better purchase because of the finger choil. Without the choil, I can only fit three fingers on the handle like the mini sheepdog. read more I think the fit and finish are comparable and the lock on the pilar is easier to disengage. For these reasons I prefer the pilar.

Phenomenal bang for your buck

Absolutely love this little knife. Feels great in hand, is super sharp out of the box and holds edge well. Blade was a little off center but at this price range I can’t complain.

Heavy, small, sharp

Robert B.

I like it. Bought it on a whim because i needed a small edc for basic tasks that i wouldnt cry about if i lost it.

Its a nice knife. Smooth deployment, and even though its liner lock it feels very stable.

The blade is sharp, and has a nice contour. Its easy to sharpen and very thick (thats what she said!)

Its heavier than my full size benchmade, and thats read more why i knocked it a star. Im all for heft and stability, but this is just a tad too heavy. Sometimes wish the grip or blade was a little skeltonized, but thatd makeit more expensive.

I love the Pilar! This knife feels like it was made for me. Great ergonomics makes it fit my hand perfectly. Great blade shape and built like a tank, makes this the perfect knife for my EDC.

I highly recommend this knife.

What a cool little knife, completely ergonomic. That said this is the knife that turned me into a steel snob, try and use it the 8cr rears its ugly head. The updated version is on my buy list for sure.

Too heavy for it's size

Gaige R.

This may not be a negative in your book - but for my needs the knife is too beefy for it's small size. I love the blade shape and sturdy construction, but for an edc knife I prefer lighter blades.

Perfection

I have had knives with great ergos, but I would’ve never guessed that this knife was $25 without the brand or the materials list. It feels like it was made for my hand. Perfect example of how proper contouring can give a better grip than grippy handle material. I love it. Would recommend this knife to anyone who likes a small knife, especially as a backup.

Great small edc knife

This knife is really good looking which is why I picked it up. The quality is pretty good for a knife of this price. Great knife to do mods on. A bit heavy due to the stainless steel handles but that's not a deal breaker.

Darn good knife!

Can't say anything bad about this knife. For the price it's perfect. It's a small knife with a lot of weight but not too much. Fits nicely in my hands and feels good. CRKT just knocks it out with this one. I loved it so much everyone in my family got one for this past Xmas.

Best bang for your buck..

Solid little knife that is quite capable of large tasks. Ergos are great which allows such a small knife to fit in my hand perfectly. Comes to a razor edge, locks up nice and tight. Washers are fairly smooth. I agree with another reviewer, I long for an upgraded version with premium materials!

For the price, this is a good knife. I don't usually buy budget knives. I use this knife when I know I'm going to misuse a knife. it did come razor sharp and is comfortable.

A great design worthy of premium materials

Michael D.

The design of this knife is excellent. It's the only blade this size that offers me a full grip, and I think it looks good to boot. Centering and lockup on mine were both excellent, and overall I am very happy with the knife. I wish they would do a more premium version though. The all stainless construction makes this a heavy little guy due to the thick blade and handle stock without read more milling, and the 8Cr13MoV steel, while not terrible, doesn't really impress either. Don't get me wrong, at the price this knife is great, but the design is so good, I'd buy an expensive version too.

It's a Tank

Scott K.

The Pilar is little tank. It's heavy and solid for a smaller frame knife. The frame lock locks up tight, the blade is centered and it feels good. There's a lot of knife here for $25!

It's heavier than it looks. Mine came with bad blade centering. Has nylon bushings (which you should expect for the price). Overall good starter/backup knife.

Crkt pilar

What can I say this knife is great! For 25 bucks you cant beat it. I didn't expect this knife to cut good when i got it, I bought more for the design then anything. But to my surprise this little guy cuts very well even with a budget steel. It may not hold an edge for that long but i just give it a few strops on my spyderco ceramic block and its back to hair shaving sharp. I was read more impressed with the action of the knife too, I find myself flicking it open and close a lot. The action out of the box was a little stiff but after playing with knife a little the action just keeps getting smoother. Not to mention the ergos are killer. If your thinking about buying this knife for yourself or a friend you won't be disappointed!

Great Design with OK execution

Chase B.

I love the Pilar; it's like a little tank that wants to be used. 2 big problems though: Blade is too thick and mine has vertical blade play (some times). First, the blade is just too thick for this small knife. It just feels a bit obnoxious, and contributes to this knife's hefty weight. Second, my sample has pretty bad vertical blade play most of the time. Every now and then I can read more open it and their will be no absolutely no play in any direction. The only remedy I have found so far is to keep the pivot really tight thus making it hard to open so I usually just deal with a little bit of up and down wiggle. Also a few small things to note as well are the sharp corners of the opening hole, a little bit of detent rock, and it's a little heavy.

Perfect size

Amazing little knife for the price. This knife works very we'll for it's size and can handle any day to day tasks, very happy with this purchase

Great design

Bryce P.

For such a cheap knife I was surprised at the sturdiness and overall design. Feels great in hand and it's small size makes it a great EDC. My only gripes about it would be its weight for the size a definite break in period for the action and the steel used for the blade. But hey it's a $20 knife. Just sharpen it often and have some lube handy and you're good to go.

A Little Tank!!!

Paul B.

Razor sharp right out of the box. Thick, deep bellied blade. Built like a tank. I have other CRKT knives that have even survived being between me and the road during a motorcycle crash. I expect this one to hold up to the same abuse... but hopefully because of use, not getting knocked off a motorcycle again!

Excellent!

I can only have a 2.5 inch knife at work and this is my favorite so far. Significantly more comfortable than my Dragonfly. Wish the blade wasn't quite so think so it was a better slicer but it did come sharp. Love that you ca do the middle finger slip like on Spyderco knives. Very happy with my purchase.

Awesome design

I don't care for the materials crkt chooses(8cr13mov, steel handles, plastic washers), but this little knife is awesome. I have large hands, and this knife is still and ergonomic dream.
