The recon 035 is a BADASS OTF! To be honest I've only held very inexpensive knockoff otf's and the recon 035 is top notch. Guardian tactical makes a beast of an otf hands down. Quality is amazing and the price is spot on. This is the best bang for your buck if you want a high quality otf. I can't describe how good it actually is, you just have to get it in hand and see for yourself.… read more You won't regret going with guardian tactical I promise
Great knife... but get the drop point blade
The Guardian Tactical Recon is an outstanding OTF, especially when compared to other offerings in the same price range. Fires hard, ultra smooth operation, and fit-and-finish is next to none.
Why four stars?
I originally purchased this tanto variation, and I was very pleased with it out of the box. However, the cutting performance left a lot to be desired IMHO. This…

wasn't my first tanto blade and I understand their quirks when it comes to using them in an EDC role. This blade just wanted to "wedge" versus "slice" for most things I cut with it. Lots of resistance.
Another thing that I found to be an annoyance with this particular blade design is the big fuller milled into the flat portion of the blade. It looks super cool, but it's also super deep, and it had a propensity for collecting a lot of debris from whatever I was cutting. I found myself constantly picking and cleaning it out before retracting the blade because I really didn't want all that gunk collecting in the mechanism.
After a few weeks, I decided to send my knife to Guardian Tactical and have them replace the blade for a stonewashed drop point blade. Sue over at GT was very responsive and helpful, and they got my knife back to me with a new blade within a few weeks after paying a fee for the new blade. The drop point blade is a MUCH better performer. It slices nicely, and the fuller is much smaller.
Tanto blade: four stars
Drop point blade: five stars easy!
