An innovative locking mechanism sits off to the side of the blade channel so it doesn't drag against the blade when opening and closing. These features eliminate the friction on the blade and button that have always plagued OTF Knives. This WILL Compete With Microtech!

The Guardian Tactical line is unique, innovative, and rugged. Being a dedicated supporter of Microtech knives due to their attractive looks and rugged build, I first noticed the GT 035 in a disassembly video where I got a look at the monster blade locks used! GT also uses a guide plate bolted onto the blade to align and guide the blade, and act as a locking surface for the giant read more blade locks. Blades locks are the true heart of DA OTF knives and clearly, the designer at GT was paying attention! I wish more DA OTF knife makers would!
The GT035 is in the price ballpark of the MT UTX85, or bottom-end UT. Quality is superb! The fit and finish are superb! Feel in the hand is superb! The asymmetric launch button with heavy, thick-ribbed gimping is superb! Because the GT lacks an add-on glass breaker, the handle is quite compact for the amount of blade thrown. There is a lanyard hole on the handle that doubles as a focused impact point for glass breaking.
When the launch button is pushed forward the first thing noticed is how SMOOTH it moves, and how little apparent force is required! I would rate it on par with the Infidel for smoothness of movement, and lightness of force! The blade comes out plenty fast and hard and it's one THICK blade! Measuring a whopping 3.95mm thick or just over 0.15" with a broad span, the blade is most impressive - more so I must admit than a UT or X85. On mine, the blade is a black stonewashed Tanto with a reverse ground tip and large lightning recesses milled below the spine on each side. The blade is clearly laser etched, "Elmax" to denote the quality of steel used, and the blade came razor sharp! There is more blade movement in all axis than I have found on my MT models, but it doesn't feel so much like "play" as a tolerance allowance because there is NOTHING "loose" about this knife!
I would submit that the GT 035 is the knife Microtech's Troodon should have been as the 3" blade Troodon is substantially upstaged by the GT 035!
Perhaps a better analogy would be: The Recon 035 is more in line with what you'd expect if the micro-Troodon were increased in size...the same beefy proportions and dimensions!
As everyone interested in Guardian Tactical knives already knows, they use a steel insert plate under the launch button, with the button riding on 3 miniature ball bearings and the result is smoother than any other DA OTF I've ever handled!
External markings are understated with Recon 035 on the left side below the launch button, and Patent Pending on the right. The pocket clip has the Guardian Tactical signature script with a nifty serial number for that added touch of class.
It would be easy for me to recommend the Recon 035 over the X85 or even UT, but then I already had those! All three are high-quality, ruggedly built knives, but I'd give the Recon 035 a slight edge in "tactical" just because of its less bold finishing and marking. I also think you get a bit more knife for the money with the GT 035.
Highly recommend!
