After yeARS of using the best materials the worlds leading steel manufacturers could provide, we decided it was time to cReate our own. In close cooperation with Crucible Industries, we have developed CPM SPY27 - a particle metallurgy stainless steel containing a proprietary mix of alloys, including vanadium, molybdenum, niobium, nitrogen, and cobalt. This remarkable composition, enhanced by the amplifying effects of cobalt and the state-of-the-art Crucible Particle Metallurgy process, is produced exclusively for Spyderco and will be featured in select USA-made MODels. Every knife made with this Steel Will also have a distinctive cobalt-blue handle color that highlights its elite pedigree. This Native 5 Lightweight showCases our exclusive CPM SPY27 blade steel in a signature cobalt-blue fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle. All other features are consistent with the Native 5 Lightweight MODel.

Have had a Native 5 in G10 & S90V for a few years and use it extensively. The sturdiness has impressed me as has the steel. Was never interested in a FRN version of such a thin knife after having handled the Benchmade Bugout, Delicas & other knives that feel flimsy to me. purchase. I was not disappointed. No flex on the handles and this was one of the sharpest factory edges I’ve gotten on any production knife. Don’t know why most manufacturers except Hogue can’t get this right. Nothing makes a better 1st impression better than a quality edge.
No evaluation of the steel since I just got it but if it’s on par with S30 or S35VN as most writeups claim I’ll be happy.
