Simple beauty

Very happy with this bigger version of the M16-01S that I've had for awhile. It's smooth opening, very comfortable in hand, and the tanto blade makes for a fine tactical knife. Contrary to what some have said, I find it fits well in pocket with the clip, and pulls out well given the secure hold it provides you in pocket.

i don't love it, and I don't hate it. I'm still waiting for my reissues of the 02KS and 03KS to arrive; I may love the lighter knives. What I DO love about this reissue is NO auto-LAWKS, and the 4-way pocket clip. By the way, my knife came tip-down, and in my effort to switch to tip-up, I lost one, two or all three of the teeny-tiny screws at least once! Word to the wise: Work on read more a soft, white surface, and have a magnet handy. They really are small, and a bugger to find!

Great Form Factor

Terrific design; it's tough to find a stout and long blade tucked into such a thin design with reasonable weight. A substantial knife that sits easily in pocket. The lock-up on mine is terrific. The pivot needed to be loosened slightly on mine, and now opens nicely (no wrist flip needed). Would I love this with a smooth ball bearing pivot, titanium frame, and upgraded steel? Of read more course, but that would be a much more expensive knife. All in all, I love it and its smaller cousin the M16-03ks.

Is this the real M16?

CRKT M16, Sigh. Is this really the legendary M-16 in its modern form? I have heard so much about this blade. And I tried so hard to love it as much as CRKT wants me to. But alas, "never meet your heroes" has never rung so true. Let's start with the bad.
1. Action is as smooth as sandpaper on the inside of your elbows. The disappointment I felt, coming from the CRKT Caligo to read more this, was immeasurable. Don't even try lube or loosening the axle pin, it just messes with the blade centering within the handle. With the heavy blade, at least gravity is on your side. But for you who lack muscular index fingers, I sentence you all to wrist flicks! 2. The pocket clip is just terrible. The pocket clip comes tip down (ugh) and snags your pocket Every. Single. Time. The clip presses the fabric of the pocket into the frame lock. So I went to flip it to tip up....and stripped two of my tools trying. The small bolts are stuck tight and way over tightened. 3. After you manage to get it out of your pocket, you will find that the finish on the handle is shot after a week of pocket wear. Just by removing the knife from your pocket and putting it back in for a couple of months, is enough to make this cheap finish tap out. 4. The frame lock doesn't have enough distinction between the two halves of the handle. I can't close this knife! You really got to ram your thumb into the frame lock to push the metal bit over and release the blade. You may not notice it at first, but open and close this thing five times in a row. I dare you.
Now the good. 1. It looks really nice. Nice skeleton black tanto, looks just fly. 2. It feels good in your hand, thanks to ergonomics that are not garbage. 3. It is a big knife (personally I like that) and it is VERY light for its size and quite slim in the pocket.
All in all, this is a pretty great knife...that just lacks severely in the practical department. Which is the exact opposite of what I was expecting from the M16. So a large part of my anger, is just disappointment from large expectation subversions (and the fact that I paid...HOW MUCH? For this ill-designed knife). The knife is showing signs of breaking in over time, but before you buy this knife, I would strongly encourage you to consider the CRKT Fossil first. I like it more in almost every way, and think it represents CRKT better. M16 is alright, it just really needs some ball bearings and a different clip. 66/100
